11 best sony portable cameras

Sony is known for its high-quality digital cameras, including a range of portable options. Here's what you need to know about Sony's portable cameras:

  1. Mirrorless Cameras: Sony is a pioneer in the mirrorless camera category. Mirrorless cameras offer the flexibility and image quality of DSLRs but in a more compact form. They don't have the swinging mirror mechanism found in traditional DSLRs, which makes them smaller and lighter.

  2. Digital Cameras: All of Sony's cameras are digital, meaning they capture images using electronic sensors rather than film. This allows for instant review, storage on memory cards, and easy transfer to computers or other devices.

  3. Camera Photo: Sony's cameras are designed for a wide range of photography needs, from casual snapshots to professional-grade photos. They come with various features like high megapixel counts for detailed images, advanced autofocus systems, and impressive low-light performance.

  4. Electronics Integration: Sony's portable cameras often have features that integrate with other Sony electronics. For example, some models can wirelessly transfer photos to compatible smartphones or tablets, allowing for quick sharing on social media or for backup.

  5. Lens Ecosystem: Sony has a diverse range of interchangeable lenses for their mirrorless cameras. This allows photographers to choose lenses that suit their specific needs, whether it's for wide-angle landscapes, telephoto wildlife shots, or macro photography.

  6. Video Capabilities: Many of Sony's cameras, particularly in their Alpha series, are renowned for their video capabilities. They offer high-resolution video recording, advanced autofocus for video, and often support features like 4K and high frame rates.

  7. Compact and Travel-Friendly Design: Sony places a strong emphasis on portability and ergonomics in their camera designs. This makes them ideal for travel photography or situations where carrying bulky equipment is impractical.

  8. Models and Series: Sony offers various camera models and series, including the Alpha series (popular among enthusiasts and professionals) and the RX series (known for high-end compact cameras). Some well-known models include the Sony A7 series, Sony A6000 series, and the Sony RX100 series.

  9. Advanced Features: Sony's portable cameras often come with advanced features like in-body image stabilization (IBIS), high-speed continuous shooting, customizable buttons, and weather-sealing for outdoor use.

Remember, specific models and features may evolve over time, so it's recommended to visit Sony's official website or consult reputable camera retailers for the most up-to-date information on their portable camera offerings.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you get an external charger to charge the battery, or can you only charge the battery via USB while it is in the camera
Answer: Surprised someone is still asking about this and not really sure what you mean but...If you mean how many hours I ran it or its reliability I used it hundreds of hours over years and many drops and bangs and last I checked it still worked. If you mean battery life I think it was about 30 hours maybe 40 with radio or no song skipping. It was a great player and I using it heavily without fail through most of the ipod revolution. It wasn't until I got my ipod classic 4th gen 80 gig that I retired the sony. The ipod for double the price or so went from 120 songs to thousands. Fully shockproof, smaller more pocketable and better rechargable battery. The sony may have lasted longer though technologically as it was only a few years before I went to streaming through pandora. Still use the ipod where there is no data. Even then I miss directory forward/ back buttons of the sony. Ipod jog wheels suck especially when driving.
Question: How long does it take to charge the battery
Answer: are you referring to "rewritable" CDs as in a CD you created? Yes, it does play them
Question: How superior would you say this is compared to a 14mp camera? (I currently have an Olympus
Answer: I honestly don't know. The batteries in this unit last for a long time and I never needed one. I can go through about 100 cd s on one change of batteries. That is a guess because it could be more.
Question: What are the included items
Answer: It has an ear phone port and that's what I use on my phone to connect to the car Aux port.

User questions & answers

Question: Will there be future models of this action cam with wider lens? I love the feature of this product, but need a wider lens like 10mm or 12mm
Answer: Hello, the Sony MPKHSR1 Camera Housing is only compatible with the DSC-RX0 Mark 1.
Question: How many seconds can it record at 1000fps
Answer: This will FIT on any e-mount camera, a6000, a6300, a5100, NEX, and ALL of the A7 (full frame) variants. BUT on an A7 it will either shoot in APS-C mode (using the same size area on the full frame sensor as an APS-C camera (a5xxx/a6xxx/NEX) and produce a lower resolution than the normal photo on the full-frame setting. You can shoot on the full-frame sensor setting on an A7(r/ii etc.) but you will see vignetting.
Question: Does it offer 60FPS, if so in what resolutions
Answer: Hi E40, Due to the crop factor, it will be multiplied to 1.5x. The angle of view of the 10-18mm lens will be equivalent to 15-27mm if mounted on your camera. -Anthony
Question: Does this come with the standard sony usa warranty of 1-year
Answer: Ignore the replies from G.Dudgeon, S.Erickson, and E.Daniels. The ILCE-3000 is an E-mount camera body, so yes, this lens will work perfectly with it because it is E-mount. And it is a great lens.

User questions & answers

Question: I purchased a Fuji Finepix S4300 that gives me dark and yellowed photos when taken indoors. How does the Sony DSCW830/B rate for taking photos inside of an office
Answer: The pictures are great! They come out nice, whether taken outdoors or indoors. I love that the camera can take panoramic pictures. My son and daughter have similar Sony cameras that they have had for awhile so I bought one because they recommended it.
Question: How long of a lag time is there between shots? Does this camera have something like a burst mode; taking a rapid series of shots
Answer: It does have a "burst mode"; however, it is not as you would expect it to be. It is a bit slower than the traditional DSLR/SLR. Thus far, as per my usage, it has been satisfactory. Suffice it to say that if you are looking to capture a hummingbird in perfect detail and in multiple shots, this camera will fall just a bit short.
Question: Does the camera come with a memory card
Answer: No. According to the help guide, "Using internal memory: The camera has approximately 27 MB of internal memory." You can purchase other media cards to store data on as well.
Question: I am looking for something for my 80 + Mother so it needs to be simple, would this camera work for her
Answer: Frankly, I would not recommend it. I bought it to replace an earlier Sony digital camera I had, which was truly a "point and shoot"- always gave great pictures. This one has an impressive list of features (I never use 99% of them) but I'm still having trouble simply "taking pictures". It's possible that it might work fine with the right settings, but I haven't had success. Example of the complexity- I printed out (from the online manual) the definitions of all the icons that can appear on the camera's screen- it's about four pages worth (!) of tiny nondescript icons which no "normal" person could memorize. Yeah, I'm old (75) and old-school, but I suspect your mom might not get satisfaction from this camera.

Exmor R and BIONZ X deliver superb image quality

An 18.2 megapixel (effective) back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor — works with the advanced BIONZ X image-processing system to deliver superb image quality, even for fine textures and details. With a range of ISO80-6400 (expanded), even dimly lit scenes can be beautifully shot, while color-reproduction improvements produce natural-looking skin tones.

Stunning 4K video

Capture stunning 4K3 video (QFHD, 3840 x 2160 pixels) with full sensor pixel readout and no pixel binning - collecting approximately 1.6x as much information as is required. This oversampling effect results in images of outstanding resolution with reduced moire and jaggies. The HX99 is also capable of shooting high-frame rate HD video at up to 120 fps to produce impressive slow-motion sequences during editing.

3 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) Continuous recording time is approx. 5 minutes, and may vary with recording environment. Class 10 or higher micro SDHC/SDXC memory card is required to record movies in the XAVC S format. UHS-I (U3) is also required for recording at 100Mbps

Eye-AF for perfect portraits

Fast Intelligent AF to capture decisive moments

The HX99 adopts Fast Intelligent AF using high-speed, highly accurate contrast-detection autofocus. It achieves focus by minimizing wasted lens motion, predicting AF range and accelerating the lens drive, improving response so you can capture even more fleeting moments.

Control ring for advanced photography

The convenient lens-mounted control ring allows you to operate pro-style manual controls such as manual focus, step zooming or selecting shutter speed, aperture, and more for added creative control — so there’s no need to compromise your vision because of the camera’s compact size. The HX99 also features a customizable ‘My Menu’ option for instant recall of up to 30 different settings.

Selfie-ready 180° Tiltable 3" LCD

The high-resolution 3.0-inch type screen with tilt capability is perfect for taking selfies and framing low-angle shots. You can use it in various shooting positions for greater flexibility in capturing creative compositions.

Touch Focus and Shutter

With Touch Focus you can simply touch the LCD at the point of the image you want to focus on, for both still and video capture, so you can intuitively focus on subjects even at the edge of the frame without reframing. The shutter can also be operated by touching the LCD screen. When using the electronic viewfinder, the LCD can be used as a Touch Pad AF to shift focus smoothly and easily, simply by sliding your finger across the LCD screen.

10 fps4 with fast AF

During still photography, the HX99 can acquire focus in as little as 0.09 seconds, and can shoot continuously at up to 10 fps4 for up to 155 shots5. Continuous-shot images can also be displayed, deleted and protected in groups.

User questions & answers

Question: Will the Sony a6000 body and Sony 70-200mm F4 lens (lens detached) fit in this bag
Answer: It fits the 55-200 mm lens with the a6000 body. I can't make any guarantees about the 70-200mm lens.
Question: Does this bag fit Sony dsc-rx10 iii
Answer: Yes it will hold the SONY-RX10III (barely) - I wouldn't get this because of the flap design - it's very difficult to get to the camera - a really poor design in my opinion - if you're not hung up on brand names I would recommend the Altura Camera bag - inexpensive, plenty of room for batteries, memory and a flash (Neewer NW320) - the product number for Amazon is B01LWIS76G - replaced the Sony bags with these for my (3) Sony a77II's and (2) RX10III's for when I am on the go and don't want to drag along all the lenses and extras.
Question: What are the dimension of case
Answer: Hi Jim,Here is the approximate dimensions of the Sony Carrying case: W 220 x H 150 x D 140mm (8 3/4 x 6 x 5 5/8inches). -Vincent
Question: Will a Sony A6000 with kit lens (15-55mm) and a zoom lens (55-210mm) along with extra batteries, charger fit in this bag
Answer: Hi Sandip, Sony A6000 camera with 2 other lenses will fit in the Sony LCS-SC21 Carrying case. -Vincent

Question: is that ibis good enough to record the bumpy road on the road trip
Answer: Not this kit
Question: Can I use my Sony e mount lenses with this camera

Question: Does this have a rotating screen for selfies
Answer: Hi Sarah, Rechargeable Battery and Battery Charger are included in the box. -Jen
Question: Does it have wired/cable shutter release remote connectivity? How remote control is implemented if any

User questions & answers

Question: It says 75 deg FoV on fullframe. Is that 75 deg horizontal or diagonal
Answer: Diagonal at 28mm https://www.nikonians.org/reviews/fov-tables
Question: Hello all, Is this lens great for landscape photography for a6000, despite it being 42mm on aps-c
Answer: Honestly I bought this for portraits but learned that it's such a great lens for landscapes too. I've had the lenses on my a6000 for about 2 months now and I have gotten so many great images of the city and lakes here in NY that I now am rethinking the purpose i bought it for. It's also a very good lend me for macro shots or even layer shots.
Question: I cant decide between this and and the emount 35mm. they are same price i have a6000. can e lenses fit on full frame if i "upgrade" to full later on
Answer: The SEL28F20 is designed for full-frame cameras, the SEL35F18 is designed for crop-sensor cameras like the a6000. You can use lenses designed for full-frame cameras on crop-sensor bodies and vice versa but your results will vary. There are plenty of articles online that explain these shortcomings in further detail but you are welcome to call us at 1-800-991-3350 to discuss. Please note that with Black Friday coming next week, prices on equipment like this will likely drop due to manufacturer instant rebates so you may want to hold off on purchasing anything.
Question: How is the performance of this lense on an A6000? I was considering getting one and then upgrading to an A7 body later
Answer: I own this lens and use on the a6500. It has outstanding sharpness. The 28mm has a field of view of 42mm on the crop sensor a6000 series which makes it an excellent normal prime lens. I use it for street photography and for architecture and landscape photography. Most of the issues with the lens occur at the edges on full frame cameras. But on the crop sensor the edges are not used, so the issues with distortion are not seen on the a6000 cameras. I highly recommend this over the Sony 35mm 1.8 lens. It is a great lens and excellent value.
