Answer: Yes. Certainly if the light is turned off the batteries will recharge. If the light is on, it will take longer for the batteries to recharge.

Answer: You can use any camera you want to, power of camera is independent of scope lenses. You should be able to find the digital camera they recommend model number MU300, Amscope digital camera. That model number is 3mp, I think. I had trouble using the digital camera with my scope, however, and ended up purchasing a scope that has the digital camera attachment as a separate tube, apart from the eyepiece. I got the scope on ebay for a little under 500 and it is AMAZING, with a zoom feature, and magnification up to 90x, which gives absolutely stunning views. However, I love these little scopes and have purchased 8 of them for my classroom. These little scopes are worth every penny I spent. I love them.

Answer: I've never seen dust mites with these. I have put pillowcases under them to try to find them, but not found any. I think most dust mite species are so small you need at least 100x if not 400x.

Question: What's the difference between magnification and objective? Looking for something for coins (5-60 times
Answer: A microscope in general has two lenses, the one at the bottom near the specimen is the objective and the one at the top is the eye piece. Each lens has a magnification power. To find the total magnification, just multiply the two together. This microscope has eyepieces with 10x & 20x eyepieces and 2x & 4x objectives. With the 10x eyepieces you get 20 & 40 power magnifications and with the 20x eyepiece you get 40 and 80 power magnifications. I think this unit would be great for coins. I use it for examining circuit boards.

Answer: With the 0.5x objective (which I believe is standard), the focal distance is about 6”. The microscope can slide up the post plus the focal mechanism provides an additional 6”. If you routinely need more, you can flip the scope 180 degrees and place the base on something to raise it (and weight the base down so it doesn’t tip over). I use my scope this way all the time and have a couple inexpensive 8 lb dumbbells weighing down the base. This turns the scope into somewhat of a boom stand scope.

Answer: Hold onto the gray part below eye pieces and give the black part under it (above the stage) a twist to switch between 2x and 4x. So no need to switch eye pieces (though you can if buy other magnifications; the ones provided are 10x).

Answer: It uses U.S. Standard 120 volt. I would think that you can get an adapter for use outside the United States. There is a tag on the power supply housing that says primary 115 volt secondary 12 volt 10 watt. If you are good with electronics you could add a jack to give it 12 volts after the rectifiers. Answer: I bought this scope for basically the same purpose (plus other things). I love this scope, it is clear, nicely made, plenty of light both for top viewing and underneath. Has all the magnification that I need. The optics are surprisingly good at this price point, its not a Nikon or Zeiss, but is more than good enough to look at coins or insects.
