User questions & answers

Question: works with small insects
Answer: The field on this microscope in bottom lit. So you can see anything that the light can shine through. It will also illuminate small insects, their wings, legs etc. Quite alot of the body of the insects are translucent, so you can see inside the bodies etc. I have also looked at blood samples (my own) and it shows the blood cells, and white cells and other scary little critters swimming around in there. I had a microsocpe i gave to my grandaughter that also had a light that shinned from above. This would be nice to have on this one, but does not. with a top light you could look at objects that the light will not shine through. I especially like the camera/computer hookup. I hook it to a 32 inch tv and it gives a great picture of the object and you can take moving videos of little critters, like in pond water, or even small blood samples. the camera and software came with the scope i bought. this scope has four lenses. i use the lowest and next highest the most. that is the .4 and the 10 (which are then magnified by the optical by which ever lens you put in. this scope came with two options. The third lens is a 40, i have a little trouble focusing with this one, you have to get really close to the object, so make sure you use a cover on the slide over the object so you don't get stuff on the lens. And the fourth lens is oil emersion, a small bottle of oil comes with the scope. I think if i where doing it again i would try to find one that is both bottom and top lit. Not sure how that effects the price. Over all very happy with the quality of the scope, I would give it a 9.5 on a scale of 10. Have fun.
Question: Will this work on any computer? Like windows 10 for example
Answer: I have got this to work on win vista, win 7, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Linux mint, and Androidx86.
Question: what kind of bacteria can you see with this? can you see DNA/RNA strands
Answer: see bacteria,but cann't watch DNA/RNA
Question: can i view gemstones on this microscope
Answer: No, you cannot use this microscope to view gemstones, or any solid object (at least not in a way that will be useful). There are two main types of microscope - compound, and stereo. A compound microscope, like the AmScope B120C-E1, is designed to look at translucent samples - drops of pond water, thin slices of tissue, and so on. Light is shined up through the sample and into the eyepiece, allowing you to see the cells/organisms in the sample. For viewing solid objects, you need a stereo microscope such as the AmScope SE400 (http://www.amazon.com/AmScope-SE400-Z-Widefield-Inspection-Microscope/dp/B005C75IVM). These microscopes are more like magnifying glasses on steroids, and use reflected light to illuminate the top of whatever you're viewing. If you want to examine gems, coins, circuit boards, insects, etc., go with a stereo microscope. Note that a "binocular" microscope just means the 'scope has two eyepieces - it does not imply "stereo" or "compound".

User questions & answers

Question: Can this microscope be connected directly to my PC or laptop
Answer: No. To do anything like that, you'd need to buy a separate camera, and even then, this scope isn't really set up to to accommodate a camera. If you're hoping to show images on a computer, you should definitely go with one of the other options that come with a camera.
Question: Can you use both the top & bottom lights at the same time
Answer: No. There is one switch which to press to different positions for top, bottom, and off. I often use the clear platform and look at the specimen lighted from the top and then switch to light it from the bottom.
Question: What type of lighting is this? Halogen? LED? I can't seem to find that in the description. Thank you
Answer: halogen - gets very hot but very bright. I don't like the heat but it is much brighter than an LED.
Question: I am looking for a camera adapter. Does anyone know the mm of the eye piece ports? Thanks
Answer: The adapter on my camera that fits is marked 30.5 mm but please get a cheap 6 inch metric small metal scale and check the size.

AmScope SW-3T24Z Trinocular Stereo Microscope, WH10x Eyepieces, 20X/40X/80X Magnification, 2X/4X Objective, Single-Arm Boom Stand, Includes 2.0x Barlow Lens

  • Ambient lighting illuminates the specimen, eliminating the need for power or batteries
  • Single boom arm with 8" vertical working distance and adjustable 16" boom arm enables users to adjust the microscope on the X- and Y-axis

User questions & answers

Question: What is the max pupil distance between the eyepieces? My eyes are further than most people at 78 mm
Answer: The maximum interpupillary distance is 75mm on this microscope.
Question: How do I make the trinocular function? The third slot only shows black and I can’t figure out how to switch it
Answer: On the left side of the scope just down from the left side eye piece there is a chrome or silver slide that goes in for viewing with your eyes or pulled out to view slide/image on computer monitor. Cylindrical and easily slides on or out.
Question: What digital camera will work with it
Answer: Hello! This trinocular microscope is really binocular, only you can select an eye or camera, I explain that I have tried to connect an E-Mount SRL camera and I could not, another thing I did not like was the depth of field (less than 1mm) that does not serve to inspect electronics, the solution was only to use the base and disregard the optics that do not work for me, buy an SRL lens and place the 10x opteka macro plus the SRL camera and I have a very good microscope with good depth of the field, you can see that you find out on YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIWUFFlr2I4
Question: Can you change the working distance to make it larger
Answer: I assume you mean the distance of the lens to the object being observed, to extend it I got the '0.5X Barlow Lens' which brought the viewing range to about 7 inch and broaden the viewing area. The lens indicates it is for SM Series scope (AmScope 0.5X Barlow Lens For SM Series) but it works on the SW scopes also (AmScope SW-3T24Z Trinocular Stereo Microscope). What I just described is listed in the microscope questions and comments and if you go the the AmScope web site you can get more o info.

User questions & answers

Question: There are no instructions in our box. Can you send me a link to the instructions
Answer: You have to go to the amscope page and enter a password that is on the box to download the manual (the flyer in the box explains this), but I did not find it particularly useful as it completely omits installing/removing the filters.
Question: Can the bulb be changed to a LED light bulb
Answer: Led isn't strong enough... use what it has... you can try.. to see if you can pick up magnification
Question: Does this illuminate above the slide for items that are not transparent, such as leaves? Or only below
Answer: The built in illuminator on the microscope is fixed below the slide carrier. It is designed to shile light through the item on the slide. When I examine a non-transparent item I use a seperate light source.
Question: Does this need a step down for countries running on 240v or can this run on alkaline batteries
Answer: This microscope is 110V only (can't be powered by battery). You will need a voltage converter to use under 240V.

AmScope M500 Monocular Compound Microscope, WF10x Eyepiece, 40x-1000x Magnification, Anti-Mold Optics, Tungsten Illumination, Brightfield, Abbe Condenser, Coarse and Fine Focus, Plain Stage

AmScope

Based on 171 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The AmScope M500 monocular compound microscope has a 10x widefield eyepiece, a forward-facing nosepiece with four DIN achromatic objectives, tungsten illumination, separate coarse and fine focus, a 1.25 NA Abbe condenser, and a plain stage. The monocular viewing head has a fixed 45-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation capability to enable sharing. An anti-mold head preserves optics in high-humidity areas. The forward-facing revolving nosepiece has 4x, 10x, 40x(S), and 100x(S,oil) DIN achromatic objectives that provide color correction of magnified images. The 40x(S) and 100x(S,Oil) objectives are spring loaded to prevent damage to the slide or objective when focusing. The 100x(S,Oil)-immersion objective uses oil between the specimen and the objective lens to provide increased resolution over a standard objective. The fully-coated optical system provides sharp, high-resolution images. A compound microscope is used for inspection and dissection of specimens when two-dimensional images are desired.

The microscope has lower (diascopic) Brightfield illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background. Tungsten (incandescent) illumination provides bright light, and a rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. The 1.25 NA Abbe condenser can be adjusted to control the distance of the light from the stage and has an iris diaphragm to optimize the amount of light illuminating the specimen. The condenser is controlled using a spiral mechanism. The plain stage has clips to secure the specimen in place, and is 4-3/8 x 4-3/4 inches (110 x 120mm) (W x D; where W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back). Separate coarse and fine focus eases focusing for left- and right-handed viewers, and a rack-and-pinion mechanism provides precise and secure focusing. Focus tension control prevents stage drift. All the mechanical parts of the microscope are constructed of metal to provide durability and resistance to wear. The metal frame has a stain-resistant enamel finish for durability and to ease cleaning. The microscope is powered by a 110V wall outlet.

User questions & answers

Question: Can it use a graticule in the optic for measuring
Answer: If you're asking if it has one, no it doesn't. For the price, though, this microscope is outstanding. I am a veterinarian and use mine all the time and love it.
Question: What size rubber eye guards fit this microscope
Answer: These would be the best fitting eyecups http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FG8B474.
Question: What's included in the package
Answer: Off the top of my head, mine came with the following:A pair of 10x and 20x optical lens each.4x, 10, 40x, and 100x objectivesProtective plastic cover (not a hard shell case - more like a bag)At least 3 colored diaphragm filters (blue, green, yellow)A small tube of oil (I'm not sure if it's lube or immersion oil)And I forgot about the spare light bulb
Question: Is it possible to connect this device to a computer? if so I’d appreciate an explanation
Answer: As far as I can tell it is possible but expensive as you need a camera mounting fixture above eyepiece, a USB camera that mounts to the above fixture and the PC software. I currently use the scope By itself now but would like a camera in the future. Good luck.

Different from our SM745TP model, this head has moved the diopter-adjustment from the ocular ports to the individual eyepices; retention screws hold the eyepieces in place, and independent focus adjustment can be made with each eyepiece. Also new is a zoom-lock, which allows you to lock the head at a specific magnification -- especially helpful for measurement applications. The redesigned nosecone features an integrated mounting-ring for ring-lights.

  • 7X-45X super widefield simul-focal continuous zoom magnification power
  • Crystal clear stereo erect images over a super wide field view
  • Super widefield high-eyepoint 10X focusable eyepieces
  • Trinocular port for adding photo or video capability
  • 48mm (in diameter) female thread for adding Barlow lenses or lights
