12 best biological microscopes
Biological microscopes, also known as compound microscopes, are specialized optical instruments used in various fields, including biology, medicine, and research, to magnify and observe microscopic specimens. They are valuable tools for studying the structure and characteristics of biological samples and other small objects.
Key features and information about biological microscopes include:
Compound Microscope: Biological microscopes are a type of compound microscope, which means they have multiple lenses to achieve high magnification. They typically consist of two main sets of lenses: the objective lens (located close to the specimen) and the eyepiece or ocular lens (closest to the viewer's eye).
Magnification: Biological microscopes provide various levels of magnification, usually ranging from 40x to 1000x or more, depending on the specific model and objectives used. They allow researchers to view details at the cellular and subcellular levels.
Illumination: Most biological microscopes have built-in illumination sources, such as halogen or LED lights, to provide consistent and adjustable lighting for the specimen. Some microscopes also offer transmitted and reflected illumination options.
Objective Lenses: Biological microscopes come with multiple objective lenses, each with different magnification powers. These lenses can be interchanged to achieve different levels of magnification and focus on specific parts of the specimen.
Stage and Specimen Holder: The stage is a platform where the specimen is placed for observation. It often includes a mechanical stage with knobs for precise movement of the specimen. Specimens are typically held in place with slide clips or mechanical clamps.
Focus Mechanism: Biological microscopes feature fine and coarse focus knobs to allow users to adjust the focus of the specimen. The fine focus knob provides precise focusing, while the coarse focus knob is used for initial adjustments.
Monocular vs. Binocular: Some biological microscopes have a single eyepiece (monocular), while others have two eyepieces (binocular). Binocular microscopes are more comfortable for extended use and often preferred in research settings.
Camera and Imaging: Many modern biological microscopes come with a camera attachment or digital imaging capabilities, allowing users to capture still images and videos of their specimens for documentation and analysis.
Applications: Biological microscopes are used in a wide range of applications, including cellular biology, microbiology, histology, pathology, and educational settings. They are essential tools for studying cells, tissues, microorganisms, and other small structures.
Maintenance: Proper care and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and accuracy of biological microscopes. Regular cleaning, alignment checks, and bulb replacement (if applicable) are essential tasks.
Biological microscopes play a vital role in advancing scientific knowledge and education by enabling researchers and students to explore the hidden world of microscopic organisms and structures. They come in various configurations and price ranges to suit different needs, from basic educational models to advanced research-grade instruments.

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you turn it on? All I get is the opening setup screen and no instructions |
Answer: | been a while since I have used mine, however, connect power cord to wall, or use 4 AA batteries, then I turn lights on, and push and hold screen power button. after that, this is a "touch Screen" so there are hidden commands that you can pull up by touching the lower or upper "edge" of the screen. they will come to view then. did your microscope come with a manual (about 4 pages in english, the rest is all other languages) ? |
Question: | The reviews posted are often for other Celestron microscopes. I would like to know specifically how this model performs. Can someone post a review |
Answer: | Like others, I have a different model (44345), but all models are pretty much the same, Mine is listed as a 5mp, but there are doc's listing it as 2mp and others as 5mp, You will replace the objectives! so don't buy it for them. The top LED is trash not bright enough for anything I have found! The unit has a auto focus and white balance with no way adjust or shut it off.So in the beginning it was almost useless to me, I added better Objectives and then discovered I could over power the auto light adjust. The cost of Microscope light are VERY high, so I added a Sewing machine LED lamp about $100 cheaper.I use it for insects, I have to trick it to get a good Pic, I flood it with light then turn down the base light with the disk (to almost blocking the light). Also it readjust the light after ever pic.I am getting what I need to complete the job.The Base stand is nice, I got mine at Fry's |
Question: | Looking at grains of sand and foraminifera: will it work for solids |
Answer: | My wife is a AKC judge and a breeder of " COLLIES " " you know like Lassie come home".She uses your product for checking sperm and absolutley loves it. gbm |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are some tricks to getting the 25x to focus and be as sharp at the 10x eyepieces? Can you only use the 25x for the 100x with oil |
Answer: | It really isn’t that useful to use the 25x ocular lenses, the 10x work fine, but using the 25 x reduces the field of view so much that unless you are looking at something and need a small area magnified I suggest you don’t need them. You can use it with the 100x but it won’t work well because it goes above the reducing power of the lens. Pretty much 100 x 10 is the top end of good resolution. |
Question: | Ex i want question about sending date,,if you want sending this microscope to all over the united state,s for us,,how much it long time aboutly |
Answer: | I don't think it took more than a week to arrive |
Question: | Does this have a top light? That lights up things from the top not just from below |
Answer: | Actually I don't think it does have a top light. All of the magnification is up on top and the light is in the base. There are other items you can buy to attach to this scope however like an external viewer for example or to take photographs or a slide. It is a really great scope....as good as the ones I used in college! |
Question: | Is this microscope strong enough to identify and differentiate between species of mold |
Answer: | This is a pretty inexpensive microscope and the optics, while offering up to 2000 x magnification, are not great. Considering Galileo used optics he made himself I would say if you employ ingenuity and creativity you will be able to differentiate mold species. I've seen some amazing things with my microscope. The 2000 magnification uses the oil immersion technique for clarity. |

Product features
Product Description:
Features a Siedentopf binocular head that rotates 360 degrees for easy shared use and allows for quick adjustments to the eyepieces for different interpupillary distances without losing focus. The swiveling head can also lock in any position for additional stability. Ocular tubes are tilted at an ergonomic 30 degrees to reduce neck and eye strain. The microscope comes with two interchangeable widefield 10X and 25X glass ocular eyepieces, which pair with the four achromatic DIN objectives -- 4X, 10X, 40X(Spring), and 100X(Spring, Oil) -- in the rotating nosepiece to provide 6 magnification levels between 40X and 2500X. Coarse and fine focusing dials on both sides of the metal arm make fluid and exact precision adjustments.
For specimen viewing, an LED bulb beneath the stage transmits light up through an industry-standard Abbe condenser with 1.25 aperture and an iris diaphragm. Manually move the condenser closer to or farther from the stage to adjust brightness and evenness of light as well as image contrast. A metal slide holder locks specimens into place for viewing on the sizeable double-layered mechanical stage. An x-y translational control knob moves the stage and the slide holder left-to-right and front-to-back, eliminating the need to re-clip slides in order to view the entire specimen.
The SW350B has a compact but solid body that is nonetheless easily portable with the built-in arm handle.
What can you see with it? Compound microscopes offer detailed, cellular-level views of transparent or dyed specimens prepared and mounted on a slide. (For magnifying solid objects, use a stereo microscope.)
