14 best apc power strip with surge protectors

APC, which stands for American Power Conversion, is a well-known brand in the field of surge protectors and power strips. They produce a range of power management and protection solutions for various electronic devices and equipment. APC power strips with surge protectors are designed to safeguard your valuable electronics from power surges, voltage spikes, and electrical disturbances. Here are some common features and benefits of APC power strips with surge protectors:

  1. Surge Protection: APC power strips are equipped with surge protection technology that helps to divert excess voltage away from your connected devices, preventing damage caused by power spikes or surges.

  2. Multiple Outlets: They typically come with multiple outlets, allowing you to plug in and protect multiple devices simultaneously, such as computers, TVs, audio equipment, and more.

  3. Joule Rating: APC power strips have a joule rating, which indicates how much energy the surge protector can absorb before it becomes ineffective. Higher joule ratings offer better protection.

  4. EMI/RFI Filtering: Some APC models feature electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI) filtering to reduce noise and improve the performance of connected devices.

  5. LED Indicators: Many APC surge protectors have LED indicators that provide information about the status of the surge protection and whether the unit is functioning correctly.

  6. Coaxial and Ethernet Protection: Some models include additional ports for protecting coaxial cable or Ethernet connections, which is beneficial for devices like cable modems and home network equipment.

  7. Power Cord Length: APC power strips come with varying cord lengths to accommodate different setup configurations.

  8. Warranty: APC often offers a warranty on their surge protectors, providing peace of mind and assurance of product quality.

  9. Automatic Shutdown: Some APC surge protectors have features like automatic shutdown to safeguard your equipment in case of a major surge.

  10. Wall-Mountable: Many APC power strips are designed to be wall-mountable, allowing you to save space and keep your cords organized.

When selecting an APC power strip with surge protection, consider factors such as the number of outlets you need, the joule rating required for your equipment, and any specific features that match your usage. APC surge protectors are widely available in electronics and online retail stores, and you can choose the model that best suits your needs for protecting your valuable electronics from power fluctuations and surges.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the outlet plug go to the right? Or to the left
Answer: 14" L x 3" wide 1 1/4 thick
Question: Will the usb port overheat and breakdown if i will use it 24/7 to power my 2.4amp wifi cam
Answer: High wattage devices like space heaters draw a LOT of power (amps) and can easily overheat extension cords and surge protectors, causing fires. Even having more than 1 space heater on the same circuit in your house can cause a fire with your home's wiring/electrical outlets. Like others have said, plug your heater directly into the wall or find a SHORT extension cord (no surge protectors or power strips) that's rated for the number of amps your device draws. The lower the gauge (AWG) number (e.g., 10 or 12) means a thicker wire/cord and the more current it can handle, generally.
Question: What are the dementions
Answer: I didnt measure it but it screws in nice and tight to my standard outlet
Question: Will this keep a personal space heater running without tripping 4x a day? I usually have it on low, but it still trips my old surge protector
Answer: It is not designed to have the light removed and it is very very bright.

User questions & answers

Question: Some say the status lights are bright. Will my bedroom glow at night like an alien spacecraft
Answer: No not designed for outdoor use
Question: Will it work for 220-240 volt appliances
Answer: The power strip has two metal sort of spring clips. One screws thgese clips onto the mounting surface then pushes the power strip into the clips; the strip clicks nicely into place and is held snug.
Question: Is the 2.4a output per each usb or is that max combined? in other words what is the max output for each usb port
Answer: The long metal strip snaps into the brackets. Without any gravity or cords putting downward pressure on the brackets, the strip will hold in place. It takes a good amount of twisting pressure to get the strip out of the bracket. Should you mount on the ceiling, I would recommend holding the strip in place when unplugging a cord from an outlet in the strip.
Question: Does the ph8 (8 outlets only) have a flat plug? customer pictures are for various models. apc, please update product pics
Answer: 14 AWG

User questions & answers

Question: Does this allow power thru after a surge disables the protective circuitry
Answer: It does lay flat against the electrical outlet, I have a shelf unit in front of it and there is no conflict, although for safety reasons I would not push furniture too closely up against it.
Question: Does this unit have a keyhole screw slots or some manner of attachment on the back so it can be mounted securely instead of just lying loosely
Answer: Here is the data spec sheet on this APC (Schneidr electrc) surge protector. It has a 40v - Let through voltage (120v + 40v). So thats a 160v clamp voltage before the surge protector kicks in and starts to absorb the surge. https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_File_Name=P11VT3_DATASHEET_WW_en-WW.pdf&p_Reference=P11VT3_APC_DATASHEET And just in case the link dies, here is the schneidr electrc product page to search for this model (P11VT3) APC surge protector. Type “P11VT3” in the search box in the webpage listed below. https://www.se.com/us/en/
Question: Does this surge protector have a right angle plug so furniture can be pushed close to the wall
Answer: The clamping voltage certified and stamped on the unit is 500v not the advertised 330v. I am not an expert, but in my opinion, it is unlikely to protect you from the first surge or any subsequent surges. I don't recommend this unit.
Question: does anyone know the clamping voltage for this surge protector
Answer: The item is orderable by cord length: You have to select it when you order. There are click-buttons on the order screen - click the length you want. If you click 6' cord, you get a 6' cord, if you click to order a 12' cord, you get 12', and so forth.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have the holes to wall mount this
Answer: No, sorry. I don't experience that with mine.
Question: Is the plug flathead or old fashioned
Answer: Yes, as long as you don't exceed 15 amps. Most professional hair dryers are hand held, so it should not exceed. ( but I would not put 6 hair dryers on it and run them all at once ) If the hair dryer is a floor model with bonnet, then I would check the energy draw. I got this for use with laptops and monitors, and battery chargers.
Question: Does it have any emi or noise rejection? Straight or angled flat plug
Answer: Could it be the electronics you have plugged into it that are making the noise? If not, I would return it, I own 2 and neither make click noises. Does not sound safe!
Question: What does the other end look like, is it standard, angled or any other non-standard plug orientation
Answer: Dear: USB Port supports 3.4A max, but each usb port can be up to 2.4A, so the power strip can not charge 2 ipads at one time by usb ports, it can charge 1 ipad and 1 smart phone at one time Thanks for your queation Bototek

APC SurgeArrest 6 Outlet Surge Protector

The APC SurgeArrest Essential series represents the primary level of surge protection that should be present on any of your computers and household electronics. Its state-of-the-art circuitry offers protection for sensitive electronic equipment against larger power surges and more common power fluctuations. The SurgeArrest’s Surge Protection Working LED will warn you if its circuitry has been damaged by heavy strike or power line surge and it is unable to provide full protection.

Low let-through Ratings

APC surge protectors are given "let-through ratings," which indicate the maximum voltage level that can possibly reach your equipment after a surge or voltage spike has passed through an electric surge protector. Lower IEEE let-through ratings indicate better protection and performance. The APC Essential SurgeArrest series offers optimal performance with a let-through rating of less than 330V-500V for North American products, and a rating of less than 15% for products sold worldwide.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this with kasa smart plug by tp-link (12 amp
Answer: I believe the USB rating is the lowest and standard amperage, which I think is about 1.2 amps per USB port? It's not the faster high speed amp rating if I"m correct on that info, but I think thats close to be accurate though, not a super fast charge, but I don't let my gear get totally run out of power charge to where it's shut down due to not enough power to the unit.
Question: what is the thickness of the thin part
Answer: The obvious difference is the shape of the connector. Type A is the full size USB that has been around for decades. It is the end of a standard USB cable shaped like a rectangle and it only fits in the host one way. USB C is much smaller with rounded corners and fits no matter how you insert it. Those are the differences in appearance, but the technical difference is much more complicated based on the USB C standard. I hope that helps.
Question: What is the max amp for a single USB
Answer: I put it so it was upright easy to access from right or left
Question: What’s the difference between type A and type C
Answer: I'm no expert but I believe it would be fine. This surge protector is a great product.

Question: Does this work with a TV as master and powered speakers and other dev as slaves
Answer: Our house was hit by lightning and we had to replace it after that.
Question: Is there a way to adjust sensitivity for the 'master' outlet - for low-power devices, for example
Answer: Hi Lisa, I have an APC P8GT. This surge strip has 8 outlets on it. 3 of the outlets are always on when the surge strip is turned on. 4 of the outlets are controlled by the master outlet. There is one master outlet. If you plug something into the master. When you turn on this device the surge strip then turns on all 4 of the outlets which are controlled by the master outlet. For example if you plug a stereo receiver in to master outlet when you turn the stereo receivers power switch on the surge strip will detect the power draw and then turn on the 4 outlets controlled by the master outlet. When you turn off the stereo receiver the surge strip will turn off the 4 outlets controlled by the master outlet. There is no way to set the time it turns anything on or off.I hope this helps you out
Question: How many serious surges this unit can handle? If its been hit by a serious surge can it still be depended upon to offer continued surge protection
Answer: According to the APC spec sheet, the timer is battery-powered (it does not say what the battery type is).
Question: What does "switchable" mean - can I control on off times for the 4 outlets
Answer: 1500W is 12.5A at 120V. This unit is rated for up to 15A, so yes, this unit can safely provide 1500W of power. Tech specs are available in the manual: http://www.apc.com/salestools/SCON-82XNJ3/SCON-82XNJ3_R2_EN.pdf
