13 best blank dvd r discs

Blank DVD-R discs, also known as DVD Recordable discs, are a type of optical storage media used for recording and storing digital data, video, and multimedia content. Here are some key points about blank DVD-R discs:

  1. Storage Capacity: Blank DVD-R discs typically come in two main storage capacities:

    • DVD-R 4.7 GB: These discs can store up to 4.7 gigabytes (GB) of data, which is approximately 120 minutes of standard-quality video or a substantial amount of data and multimedia files.
    • DVD-R DL (Dual Layer) 8.5 GB: Dual-layer DVD-R discs have a larger storage capacity of 8.5 GB, allowing for longer videos or more extensive data storage. They have two recording layers on the same side of the disc.
  2. Write-Once: DVD-R discs are write-once media, meaning that once data is recorded or "burned" onto them, it cannot be altered or erased. This makes them suitable for creating permanent backups, video recordings, and archival data.

  3. Compatibility: DVD-R discs are widely compatible with DVD drives and DVD players found in computers, DVD players, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and other consumer electronics devices. However, dual-layer DVD-R DL discs may require compatible hardware.

  4. Recording Speeds: DVD-R discs come in various recording speeds, such as 1x, 4x, 16x, etc. The recording speed determines how quickly data can be written to the disc.Higher-speed discs require compatible hardware for optimal performance.

  5. Data Formats: DVD-R discs support various data formats, including video DVDs, data DVDs (for storing files and documents), and mixed-mode DVDs (combining video and data content on the same disc).

  6. Recording Process: To record data or video onto a DVD-R disc, you need a DVD burner (DVD writer) on your computer and appropriate DVD burning software. During the burning process, a laser etches pits into the disc's dye layer, creating the data pattern.

  7. Labeling: DVD-R discs typically have a printable surface where you can use markers or printable DVD labels to add information, titles, or artwork. Printable DVD-Rs are also available for high-quality label printing.

  8. Longevity: The longevity of data stored on DVD-R discs can vary depending on factors like the quality of the disc, storage conditions, and exposure to environmental factors. Proper storage in a cool, dry place can extend the life of the data.

  9. Cost: Blank DVD-R discs are generally affordable and cost-effective for creating backups, video recording, and distributing content. Prices can vary depending on the brand, speed, and quantity.

  10. Archiving: Blank DVD-Rs are commonly used for archival purposes, especially for video projects and data backup. They provide a reliable method for preserving important files, videos, and multimedia content.

Blank DVD-R discs have been widely used for recording and distributing video content, software installations, and data backup for many years. While their popularity has decreased with the advent of Blu-ray discs and USB drives, they remain a viable option for various applications where their write-once, high-capacity format is advantageous.

Product description

Verbatim DVD-R offer 4.7GB or 120 Minutes of write-once storage capacity, superior recording quality, and compatibility with 1X to 16X DVD-R writers, allowing users to record a complete 4.7GB/120Min disc in approximately 5 minutes. Recognized as the choice of professional users, Verbatim DVD-R offers the optimal AZO recording dye, which provides the highest level of read/write performance, reliability, and archival life. Verbatim 16X DVD-R media is compatible with hardware from most leading drive manufacturers. Backed by Verbatim's Limited Lifetime Warranty.

From the Manufacturer

The Verbatim AZO recording layer gives our DVD media the competitive advantage-the patented coating delivers protection that lasts generations and provides ultimate resistance to UV light damage. That's why Verbatim's been recognized as the No. 1 Optical Brand in the World*--we consistently provide optical media of the highest quality and compatibility. When drive manufacturers test their products for maximum performance, they use Verbatim--so why wouldn't you?

Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), Verbatim's parent company in Japan, brings extensive technological research and development to the table. Core technologies, like the AZO recording layer give Verbatim an offering like no other optical manufacturer. This unique and ultra-stable layer strongly resists UV light, withstands high laser and rotation speeds on newer drives and ensures compatibility with current DVD standards.

Verbatim's AZO recording layer not only withstands the extremely high laser and rotation speeds of newer drives, it also maximizes their performance. Verbatim paid particular attention to the durability and light fastness of AZO; tests show that it is more stable than most recording dyes and the least affected by ultraviolet light.

AZO also offers high sensitivity for reliable high-speed recording and high reflectivity to eliminate read errors. The thinness of the recording layer is also critical. The thinner the layer, the higher the sensitivity and power margin; therefore, the better the DVD works for high-speed recording.

What does all this mean for you? Verbatim AZO technology translates into optical products that cost just a little more but are worth the slight difference. They are products you want-offering reliability, high read and write performance, high-quality photos and sound and superior archival protection that lasts.

User questions & answers

Question: Do these Dvd's each have their separate case
Answer: Absolutley not. It's just as it looks in the picture. That is, it's in a stack in one container. Jewel cases are so expensive. No DVDs or CDs that come in quantity that I know of come in individual cases.
Question: What do the letters -R, +R, -RW and +RW mean
Answer: As I understand it The only difference between Dvd-R and Dvd+R Is the how the laser burns the data DVD-RW Means you can burn and erase multiple times
Question: Can I write information on the disc directly or do I need or do I lables
Answer: I've written on my discs with a regular Sharpe for many years (over 20) and even the oldest discs are fine. No problem at all. I have about 3,000 discs made over the last two decades and have never found a single problem with any of them so I would say, go ahead and just a Sharpie.
Question: What is the Version number of this disk? Verbatim 4.7 gb 16 x speed
Answer: For the price, it is the best you can buy. I try to get Verbatim DVD-R because on my HP desktop computer and the video software I use, it is the best. I does not matter the version number of this disk. What matters is that it is 4.7 Gb with a speed of 16. You will be able to record movies, photographs, music and much more. When formatted, you get about 4.1 Gb which is about 30 minutes of HD.

Verbatim prides itself on producing optical media compatible with more drive manufacturers than any other brand in the world, giving our customers better disc burns at rated drive speeds.

Backup v. Archive

The difference between backing-up your data and archiving your data is subtle, but important. Backing-up data is usually done on a daily or weekly basis, to account for any edits or additions you have made. Archiving is a more permanent solution – ideally, you archive data a few times a year and it remains safe for years to come.

Optical media is the ideal media for archiving. It is durable enough to last for years and takes up less physical storage space. The random access file retrieval makes finding data faster and easier. And with better backwards compatibility, data stored on optical media can be accessed for many years to come.

User questions & answers

Question: i have a mac can i burn my mp3 music on to this
Answer: No problem you just have to have your program to record
Question: I have a dell , and just brought the dell dvd/cd player, i want to use some sd card videos, can i download on these
Answer: if you mean download videos from your SD card to your computer to burn them to disc, this would fit the bill. If you have to buy a DVD burning software do your research. I use ConvertXto DVD or ConvertXtoHD to burn my disc but there is a free one out there and I forget the name of it but I remember that one had a very steep learning curve to it. Thats whyI started using ConvertXtoDVD by VSO software
Question: can i use these to make dell backup discs
Answer: Yes, you can even write windows 7/8/10 onto disks and install windows from the disk. You can do lots! Make sure you follow Dell's instructions for writing backup DVD disks carefully!Personally I would just make a folder of all your music, photos, documents you want to backup and upload it to mega! 50 free gb wonderful!
Question: How many discs in this pack
Answer: There are 15 (you can see 15 pk in a yellow 'box' in the picture) but 15 is not mentioned anywhere in the description.

User questions & answers

Question: What color are the backs of these discs? Like the side you would not write on/label. Thanks
Answer: I would say that the side the laser burns is lavender, almost identical to the color you see on the product label bottom half.
Question: What is the difference between "Branded" and not
Answer: Verbatim does not actually manufacture their own discs. They also use 2 different manufacturers that I am aware of. The superior quality Verbatim AZO discs, are manufactured by Mitsubishi, which should be the product on this page. The Verbatim DataLifePlus/DataLife Series are a lower quality product, manufactured by CMC Magnetics. Neither type of disc are actually manufactured by Verbatim themselves. This is a very common practice among most CD/DVD/BD recordable disc brands.
Question: Verbatim life series dvds are reported to be lower quality and less reliable. i don't want life series. are these life series dvds
Answer: I don't remember them having "Life Series" on the label, so I doubt it, but in any case, I used them ALL without one problem ~ THEY WERE FLAWLESS!
Question: Are these DVD's rewritable? They have the "RW" on the case but the description says "write once
Answer: No they are not rewriteable. In this case the RW signifies read-write. That means you can read from them and write to them. This item is marked DVD+R. If they are marked DVD+RW they would be rewriteable. They have to have the RW behind the disc description. Ex. CD-RW, CD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW would signify all rewriteable disc's.

User questions & answers

Question: Can labels be printed and stuck on these
Answer: you should direct this to the seller, not to us buyers. Write directly to them
Question: What is the difference between the data disc/media version and ideo version of DVDs
Answer: These rubber mats offer enhanced traction, especially in wet/slippery conditions thanks to their natural rubber construction and oblong-nubbed surface. The rubber holds up well to the elements (rain/snow/UV rays from the sun) and can certainly be used outdoors. If the mat is not covered (under an awning/overhang) and it rains/snows, the mat will get wet and will have to air dry (though it does not absorb any liquids due to its rubber construction). If the mat is being used on a ramp, it should stay in place pretty well but, depending on the slope, it may need to be anchored in place, especially if wheelchairs are rolling across it. You can screw it down using a few screws and washers or use an outdoor flooring adhesive for a permanent bond. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001ASBI2U/?seller=ASIRD3RM6OQ4 Thanks, American Floor Mats

User questions & answers

Question: Can these be used to view in a regular dvd player, not blue ray
Answer: All DVD burners that I am aware of from the last several years can use both single and dual layer DVDs. But you need to check the specs on your burner to know for sure. you can go into your control panel and switch to classic view if it isn't already, and then open the "system" icon. under the hardware tab you can go into the device manager. once there expand the category DVD/CD-ROM drives. it tells you the name. then you can just search that model on google with "info" at the end.
