13 best coax splitters
Coax splitters are electronic devices used in audio and video distribution systems to split a single coaxial cable signal into multiple outputs. They are commonly used in various applications, including cable TV, satellite TV, and home theater setups. Here's what you need to know about coax splitters:
Signal Distribution: The primary purpose of a coax splitter is to distribute a single input signal to multiple output connections. For example, you can use a coax splitter to send a cable TV signal to multiple televisions in different rooms of a house.
Types of Splitters: Coax splitters come in various configurations, including two-way (2-way), three-way (3-way), four-way (4-way), and more. The number indicates how many output connections the splitter has. Common configurations include 2-way and 4-way splitters.
Frequency Range: Coaxial cable splitters are designed to work within specific frequency ranges. It's essential to choose a splitter that is compatible with the frequency range of the signals you plan to distribute. Different types of signals, such as cable TV and satellite TV, may have different frequency requirements.
Insertion Loss: Coax splitters introduce a small amount of signal loss as the signal is divided among the output ports. The level of insertion loss can vary depending on the quality of the splitter. Lower-quality splitters may have higher insertion loss, leading to a weaker signal at each output.
Compatibility: It's important to ensure that the coax splitter you choose is compatible with your equipment and signal sources. Different connectors (e.g., F-type connectors) are commonly used in coaxial cable systems, so make sure the splitter matches the connectors on your cables and devices.
Installation: Coax splitters are relatively easy to install. You connect the input cable to the input port of the splitter and then connect the output cables to the output ports. It's important to follow the correct wiring configuration to ensure proper signal distribution.
Signal Quality: When using coax splitters, it's crucial to be mindful of signal quality. If you split a signal too many times or use low-quality splitters, you may experience signal degradation, resulting in lower image and sound quality on your TVs or devices.
Amplified Splitters: In situations where signal loss is a concern, you can opt for amplified coax splitters. These splitters have built-in signal amplifiers to boost the signal strength before distributing it to the output ports. This can help mitigate signal loss over longer cable runs.
Cost: The cost of coax splitters can vary depending on their quality, brand, and the number of output ports. It's a good idea to choose a splitter that meets your specific needs without overpaying for unnecessary features.
In summary, coax splitters are essential components in audio and video distribution systems, allowing you to share a single signal source with multiple devices. When selecting a coax splitter, consider factors such as the number of output ports, frequency compatibility, insertion loss, and signal quality to ensure optimal performance in your audio and video setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | May I use this product to split an fm signal from an antennae and send it to my recveivers and equipment which uses a coaxial cable |
Answer: | I don't see why not, the fm frequencies use the same antenna as vhf and as long as you have an antenna with that capability I believe so. The splitter/booster just distributes the signal equally between each connection so there is no signal loss from too many splits. Yes,it can be used for this purpose |
Question: | If this amp is not compatible with a tv broadcast rf/rx antenna, could you recommend a good one |
Answer: | this device is compatible with pretty much all service providers of COAX tv service like comcast, spectrum and verizon |
Question: | Can this be mounted outdoors |
Answer: | If mounted outdoors it should be in a sheltered, dry location - preferably in a telecom enclosure. The power supply is rated for INDOOR USE ONLY. |
Question: | Can two be daisy-chained successfully? I have one already but need more than 8 outlets in my home |
Answer: | No. Daisy chaining has a high probability of failure, and is strongly discouraged. If you need more that 8 ports it is better to use a 2-way splitter to feed 2 separate amplifiers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this an AC power pass splitter |
Answer: | Yes and I'm not sure. |
Question: | Will this work on a comcast modem for tv and internet? Can i hook up to 3 tv's |
Answer: | Hi Chriswlan, thank you for your question. Yes, each OUT port is protected by a diode. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to respond or give us a call between the hours of 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM Central Standard Time, Monday thru Friday at 1-800-654-8483. Thank you. |
Question: | the -3.5dB leg gives less loss than the other 2 right? I want to split a router and 2 TVs and need to know if i can reliable play video games on this |
Answer: | No, this splitter does not have a male end. All 3 ends are female |
Question: | What is the difference between Unbalanced and balanced Extreme 3 Way splitter |
Answer: | If you are asking about the four-way, it would have to be at least 7 db or it would violate the law of conservation of energy. 3.0 dB loss is 50%, so a two-way splitter ideally is close to 3 dB.. A 4-way that has only 3.5 dB loss per port would be putting out more power that comes in. 7dB is a factor of four loss. |

Question: | Will this work with Verizon Fios Moca |
Answer: | Cable TV is what I used it for. It splits the main line to 5 other lines. Cable modem and 3 HD. I capped one with a 75 ohm cap for now. They're crystal clear and seem to change faster. Especially the two I replaced the cable line on. |
Question: | I have four cable boxes. Is this sufficient for the signal or is an amplified splitter necessary |
Answer: | Not sure. I have mine in the exterior cable box. It's not subjected to the elements, and has been working well. |
Question: | Is this item able to be installed outside of the home like directv does with the splitter that they use? or would weather protectors do the trick |
Answer: | It is just a signal distribution splitter. If you are using Coax cable, it should do the job. |
Question: | Is this a moca approved splitter |
Answer: | I'm using the splitter with a TiVo Mini that uses MoCa 2.0. No problems with it, once I put terminators on all of the unused splitter jacks. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to hook this up to my direct tv dish for the signal and run two boxes with two separate wires. Is this what I need |
Answer: | Yes, it should not give you any problems. |
Question: | Can I use this outside my house to split my Comcast cable? The current 3 way splitter they are using is not grounded. Do I need to ground this 4 way |
Answer: | It is my understanding that there will be about 7db of signal loss on each port. The more you split the signal, the weaker it gets. This is not usually a problem unless you are starting with a weak signal and then splitting it multiple times. If you need a stronger signal, you can put a signal amplifier as close to the source as possible. |
Question: | Do I need to actually plug anything into the input on this? I just want to link multiple moca 2 devices on existing home wiring |
Answer: | These devices are passive with no "active" electronic circuitry. As such they essentially perform a resistive "split" taking and input signal and splitting it to 3 outputs, each with a lower "output" signal than the "input". BUT, since the device is passive, signals can go both ways from the "outputs" back to the "input", again with some reduction in signal levels for the input and other outputs. It's a bit complicated so you might think of it as a major 2 lane roadway as the signal "input", but with 3 additional smaller single lane secondary roadways that permit signal "traffic" to either exit to them from the main roadway, or have smaller roadways provide "signal traffic" back to the main highway with no one-way roads, stop signs or traffic lights to impede the signal "traffic" flow. |
Question: | Can i use this device to add an ota signal from an attic antenna to the cable from my catv service and then separate the signal at the rear of my tv |
Answer: | You'll need an adapter (transformer or balun) that goes from a 300 ohm ("old screws") to 75 ohm F-Connector (pushpins). You can likely find one at Home Depot or Lowes. Failing that, Amazon has them for about $7- here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FFNTNQV/ref=sxts_kp_tr_2?pf_rd_p=8778bc68-27e7-403f-8460-de48b6e788fb&pd_rd_wg=gnveX&pf_rd_r=CACFYS8SY3ZC0AX3DFDE&pd_rd_i=B07FFNTNQV&pd_rd_w=go4gS&pd_rd_r=f0993bb1-701f-451b-9271-7e563935a8bb&ie=UTF8&qid=1546465511&sr=2 |

Question: | How exactly does this work & do i need it for my Bolt |
Answer: | Should work just fine |
Question: | Can I use this to split one Directv signal into two? In other words, get the same dtv signal on 2 different tvs |
Answer: | Thank you for the question. You can use the splitter outside, but it's recommended to use it in a house box or premise box to keep from getting water inside. Grounding is recommended, however, the splitter will work without grounding. The purpose is to keep your wires from damage, and potential fire damage in the event of a surge.Keep in mind, your cable system only needs 1 grounding point. So, if you have an established ground before the 3 way that's in place, that's all you need. (Don't add a 2nd ground) If you are unsure about grounding, it's best to have a professional look at it.If you have other questions, feel free to contact us directly through the buyer messaging system.Thank you |
Question: | Will this splitter work to connect coax cable to modem and connect to tv for cable at the same time |
Answer: | You don't need to connect anything to the input if you are just using the splitter for MoCa, but we recommend terminating the port with a 75 ohm terminator. |
Question: | Someone els has asked this question and I'm curious what the outcome was ??? Can you use this in reverse to connect two antennas to one coaxial cable |
Answer: | No. What you are looking for is called a diplexer, and you will need two to accomplish what you are attempting to do. |
