User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a powered splitter or something that would allow this product to work for placement in between the preamp and power inserter |
Answer: | If you want to have a splitter between the preamp and the power inserted, you need to use a "power passing" splitter. I used this one from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018BN0UW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. You may choose a different one depending on the number of connections you need at the splitter. |
Question: | can this be used with Winegard FL6550A to strengthen the signal |
Answer: | No. It has a built in preamp. I used this preamp with the FL6550A antenna and the channels I had dropped in half from 51 to 26. Actually makes the FL6550A antenna perform worse! |
Question: | Can I use this to boost sig for 2 antennas: Clear Stream's DB4E UHF antenna PLUS C5 VHF antenna? Do I put the amp after the combiner |
Answer: | I'll add my answer for future installers. I run two dual element antennas pointed in opposite directions and use TWO preamps -> then combine. If I were running two antennas for the purpose of band separation (UHF / VHF) - I might combine first then preamp. The BUMMER here - is that this is an EXCEPTIONAL unit with only 1db of noise. That means it outperforms other preamps that declare higher gains. This Wineguard amplifies the VHF and the UHF signals separately - which would make you ask - WHY ON GOD's GREEN EARTH would you NOT give us the ability to hook up separate UHF / VHF antenna feeds??There are preamps out there that do have separate inputs - RCA has a very popular unit around $20 but it won't perform as well as this overall. Id try FIRST - to combine at the mast- preamp and then distribute. If you don't like the results - you can ALWAYS add another preamp and change it to a preamp for each antenna then combine. What a shame though - since you would only be using half the capability of each preamp in the second scenario. |
Question: | Will this booster improve (%) both signal strength & quality? Will it make the OTA CH's that are 100% (w/o amp) worse |
Answer: | You have a given amount of tv signal present in the air, (assuming, your within range and elevation to capture a signal), also signals fluctuate according to temperature and moisture present in the atmosphere. So this is generally a constant changing thing that we have no control. Sometimes there are band openings that cause tv signals to behave in ways in both favorable and unfavorable depending on conditions that are present. Your digital TV tuner in your TV, in order to lock onto a signal, (that signal must be of high integrity and not out of phase). Generally the antennas of higher gain do better than cheap off the shelf small antennas (especially indoor/outdoor models). Also the inexpensive antenna systems that claim 150 or more mile range. All feedline has loss; some are better than others in this problem. The more loss in your TV feedline cable, will result in less tv signal reaching your TV tuner. RG-6 is a better grade than rg-59 resulting in better quantity of signal available to the tv tuner. Tv preamplifiers like this one, boost the signal level at the antenna location so as to compensate for the loss in your cable run to the tv tuner. Another issue is that you cannot amplify a signal without creating noise (distortion), in the signal. Some preamplifiers do their job by not creating so much noise in the signal. (The lower the noise, the better); regardless of gain figures although high gain does help. This unit is of good quality and has the added benefit of separate uhf/vhf antenna inputs for those who need to use single band tv antennas to achieve high results to specific applications. Your TV tuner can only lock onto a signal of high integrity. This unit is a good choice to help deliver that signal to the tuner, assuming everything else is in order. If multiple antennas are used for digital TV reception; they must be connected prior to being amplied, otherwise it will be out of phase and the tv can't lock onto signal like that. Hopefully, I have explained this so it's easier to understand. There is a science behind," how this works". Hope this advise has helped others. 73 and GOD bless K5EWM. |

User questions & answers
Question: | i understand that i add this between the antenna cable and the tv. do i need to plug this into an outlet as well |
Answer: | Yes... It is a powered amplifer. You can either plug it into a wall receptacle or a USB port. If your TV has a open USB port you can power it there. |
Question: | Can two antennas be boosted to one TV using a splitter |
Answer: | I did this with a Splitter and it improved the reception because each Antenna was pointed in a different direction helping me get additional channels to one TV. |
Question: | I get great reception on my tv (full bars), but running it through my channel master dvr, i can't get signal on some. will this help |
Answer: | It may if it the reason that you are not receiving the channel is that it needs a small amount of amplification. Look at the signal meter on the dvr. If it shows a small amount of signal then amplification may help to give enough signal strength for the dvr tuner to lock on the channel. |
Question: | So i add between the antenna cable and the tv. do i need to plug this in to an outlet as well |
Answer: | Yes, you connect it between the tv and the antenna. And plug it into a wall outlet or a USB connection, for power. it comes with another wire and plug not shown in this picture. |

User questions & answers
Question: | So how does one install the antenna, hang it, use velcro to adhered to wall, suggestions Thanks |
Answer: | It's clear by some of the responses that many don't understand what the question means. Any HD Antena can work with Fire stick if you use a device to integrate such as Air TV for example. That would even allow you to pull up local channels within your Sling APP and/or be watched on another device using the Sling app. |
Question: | What's the length of the coaxial cable |
Answer: | Go to the menu on your TV. Then channels. There should be an auto channel search button. Then select antenna and hit enter. This will search for and add all channels. You may need to do this function periodically if you lose channels. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Can this be used without amplification (plugging it into the outlet), and if so what is the range? I am hoping I could plug it in only as needed |
Answer: | Yes, provided your attic is less than 35 ft. away from your TV. If it is farther, then you will need an extension coaxial cable. |
Question: | how many miles |
Answer: | Well, to know if it's actually good, once could compare it to a 'make shift' antenna many people have used if their cable gets knocked out by a storm, hurricane, or when they first move into a place and have no cable hooked up, but to do that one would already need some coaxial cable (the one used if you have a cable box that screws into your tv). Here is what people often do to get channels from the air having no cable service; screw in the coaxial cable wire into the back of your tv like you would normally have if you had cable hooked up, into that cable connection area on the back of your tv (the round thing). Take the other end of that coaxial cable and rest the tip of that inner copper wire that is sticking out of it just a little bit, rest that into the slit of a screw on a light switch. Often times if you slightly bend the cable a little bit here and there the cable often rests right in place and sits there. Now go to your tv and using the "source" or "input" button on your remote, select "TV" then select "Antenna" then scan for channels. Those wall plates/wall outlets, like the light switch and other various wall outlets/switches, the screws that hold them onto the wall will act as an antenna. I'm not telling anyone to do that, I'm just sharing what I have seen many people do as an alternative to cable or when their cable function got knocked out after a powerful storm or hurricane and people wanted to find some local news to learn more about the situation if they still had a house and electricity left to do that but even with no power, many have those solar generators and they would allow a flat screen to work with it to be able to watch tv and get some local stations. Once one sees how many channels one can get without even buying an antenna and then they buy an antenna to compare that with, they will know if this, or others like it, was actually an improvement and worth the money. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this unit, fuse protected |
Answer: | You are not going to like my answer: Suitability for 4 TVs will depend on your configuration: 1) For clarification, the Winegard HDA-100 is an amplifier, not a splitter. It takes the input signal and amplifies it to the output port 2) To split the signal to more than 1 TV, you will need a passive splitter. I believe there are 1-in to 4-out Coax Cable splitters available 3) Note that the amplifier needs to be close enough to the source (generally an antenna) so that the input signal is relatively robust. It cannot properly amplify a deeply degraded input signal. 4) The amplifier amplifies the signal; however, the splitter will divide the signal's energy/signal between the 4 output ports 5) The distance from the signal source (antenna) and the Winegard HDA-100 amplifier is important. If too long, the signal will be degraded before it reaches the amplifier. I'm guessing "too long" is +100ft of coax cable. 6) *IF* the coax cable length between the amplifier (assuming the splitter is in between) and TVs is long, the signal will degrade. Whether or not it is "too" degraded, you'll have to try it and see. That said, I have 75ft between the antenna and amplifier, 10ft between the amplifier and 3-way splitter, and 75ft between the splitter and TV. Works fairly well; however: the TV towers (I believe there are 3 in the general vicinity) are 45 miles away and depending on the weather, some stations become weak. But in the end, I am very happy to NOT be paying for cable/dish. |
Question: | We have a 1996 rv with winegard batwing. would this plate be an upgrade? our current does have similar looking wall plate |
Answer: | yes. never add an amp to an amplified antenna. something is going to burn out. |
Question: | Yes, how do i install this? i do not need to connect but 1 tv. there is 4 lines coming out of wall. will this plug also charge a phone |
Answer: | No. This is designed to work with non amplified antennas. You would burn out one the amps. Maybe both. |
Question: | It says in the above specification that the "Item weight" is 30lbs? Is that a typo |
Answer: | no, the amps would cancel each other out and probably cause a weaker signal. You cannot amplify an amplifier without causing damage. Sorry. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this boost the signal from 2 antennas to one tv |
Answer: | This is what it know as a distribution amplifier. What that means is that if you have a good signal to this amplifier, it will drive several TVs. If you have a very long feed from the antenna to the splitter, you may be better suited with a preamplifier at the antenna. It boosts the signal before the long cable. It usually is power through the same cable as the signal is fed through. For example, if the splitter is in the basement, you would plug in the power supply there and insert it in the cable going to the antenna. The signal from the antenna still feeds the opposite direction to your splitter. The reason for doing it this way is that once a signal is degraded by a long feed, you would only be amplifying the noise and poorer signal. A good cable (RG6 quad shielded) should be fine for 50 feet, provided the connectors are properly installed. Above that length. I would use the preamplifier. The same company sells them also. One thing to keep in mind is that with old analog signals, you would get ghosting or fuzziness with a weak signal. The digital signal is much more annoying with digitalization and audio or video dropouts. I hope this helps. |
Question: | Can you recommend a good antenna to use with this |
Answer: | Thank you for your answer. It is very easy to replace it. However, it is difficult to purchase a sponge separately. I'm sorry I couldn't help you. |
Question: | Does this have an FM trap? I don't care about TV signals, I want to help my weak FM signals |
Answer: | You'll need to order better mallots. The mallots are flimsy. |
Question: | Is this suitable for 4 TVs or does it require additional splitter added after |
Answer: | Anything is possible! Believe! |

Question: | Has anyone compare this Amplied antenna to AmazonBasics Extreme Performance Ultra Thin Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna in term of reception and range |
Answer: | Update, April 2018. Newer design Clearstream Eclipse is sig better & just a little pricer, If passive works best for you. I live semi-rural 25miles West of Detriot. Have tried many major brand indoor antennas, Mohu Leaf, Wineguard, AmazonBasics, 1byOne, etc. After fresh channel scan, Eclipse took me from 18 channels (22 depending on weather & season) to very clear 28 channels! |
Question: | Can the Wineguard FL5500A antenna be used without power amplifier Hooked up |
Answer: | I have had this 2 years now and love it. I found hooking it up to power BEFORE the splitter coming into the house made all the difference. Hooking the power adapter inside house right before hooking into tv did not well at all. I would get 1 channel. With power adapter outside before my house splitter I pick up 60 channels. |
Question: | I have a tv that doesnt have a usb connection. How can I use these antennas |
Answer: | The antenna connects to the tv using the same type of connection as a cable wire, so a usb is not needed. If you are replacing cable with the antenna, you can actually use the cable wiring in your house to connect all of your tv's to one antenna. Put the antenna in the room at the highest point in the house. Get a 2 way cable splitter. One end goes to the tv in that room. The other end connects to the existing cable wire. Follow the existing cable wire to your basement or wherever the cable comes in to the house. Get a 5 way splitter (for up to 4 tv's). Connect the cable coming from the room with the antenna to the input of the 5 way splitter. Connect all of your other tv cables to the outputs of the 5 way splitter. You will then just need to change each tv to use air instead of cable. Be sure to buy quality splitters with gold ends. |
Question: | is this antenna made in america |
Answer: | Will this antenna work if I am 40 miles from the broadcast town. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this antenna be used with an older TV that needs an OTA translator box |
Answer: | I assume that it will, there is no reason that it shouldn`t. But you are missing out on a free HD signal that your antenna . I recently purchased a flat screen HD tv at a pawn shop for less that $100. |
Question: | Does it receive both Low and High VHV channels |
Answer: | The Winegard FL6550A is for UHF and high-band VHF channels 7-13 only. The H-VHF spec is listed on the Winegard web page at www.winegard.com/flatwave (and confirmed by Jim Chase at Winegard). But it's listed virtually nowhere else and it's too bad because it would save some folks from being disappointed in low-band VHF performance. |
Question: | If I mounted this only 6' above ground what reception could I get? I can't go higher because of Housing Association rules |
Answer: | According to the FCC, your HOA cannot prevent you from mounting an antenna on your roof. The rule (47 C.F.R. Section 1.4000) has been in effect since October 1996, and it prohibits restrictions that impair the installation, maintenance or use of antennas used to receive video programming. The rule applies to video antennas including direct-to-home satellite dishes that are less than one meter (39.37″) in diameter (or of any size in Alaska), TV antennas, and wireless cable antennas. The rule prohibits most restrictions that: (1) unreasonably delay or prevent installation, maintenance or use; (2) unreasonably increase the cost of installation, maintenance or use; or (3) preclude reception of an acceptable quality signal. Many HOA's continue to try to restrict you, but they are wrong. Property owners can restrict renters from putting up antennas, but as long as it's your property where you are mounting it, the HOA can't prevent you. |
Question: | I don't have an electrical outlet any where by the roof where I would have to mount it, any solutions |
Answer: | The electrical part of this antenna connects to where your main outside cable wire comes into the house. For example, my main cable is in the attic which is where the cable from the antenna comes in. So, I added a plug in the attic from my pull chain light that was already there. If you don't have an attic light you could find an electric junction box and cut in a plug. Or, if your main connection is outside you might just run an outside extension cord. I am not an electrician but I can tell you this antenna works great and save me a ton of money from paying cable fees and all the channels are in hi def and very clear. I am 45 miles from tv stations in Orlando, FL. Hope this helps. |

Question: | Is there any other way to power this except hard-wired to a 12v line? maybe a battery method? i see there's something that looks like a mini usb input |
Answer: | Any nine to twelve volt DC power supply will power this. You can buy a 9v power block pretty cheap and cut the end off to connect it to the positive and negative terminals. be sure you do not reverse the polarity of your connection. This one can be used for other items also and the voltage is seletable. It has a two wire connector to wire your Winegard RFL 342; https://www.amazon.com/Belker-Universal-Adapter-Household-Electronics/dp/B078LSVVTB/ref=sxin_2_ac_d_rm?ac_md=0-0-ZGMgcG93ZXIgYWRhcHRlcg%3D%3D-ac_d_rm&keywords=dc+power+adapter&pd_rd_i=B078LSVVTB&pd_rd_r=84b189e7-55f0-4fd9-b5b1-604de65f6b16&pd_rd_w=Qkdx5&pd_rd_wg=QnAuo&pf_rd_p=e2f20af2-9651-42af-9a45-89425d5bae34&pf_rd_r=G237JW2PPH3MZCBXQ1HM&psc=1&qid=1574983317 |
Question: | Does this eliminate the need for digital box |
Answer: | No, if your TV is not digital you will still need the converter. |
Question: | Will it work in a home HD antenna in the attic? My works good, not great , I like to boost the signal & view the signal strength |
Answer: | My Winegaurd RFl-342 works real good on boost signal and signal strength. I have a rotor antenna and you can see the different signal strength as you rotate the antenna for best reception and location of Tv repeaters. You will have to have a 12 volt system to power it. I use a 12 volt converter to power it. |
Question: | In my area, digital channels share the same number like 30-1, 30-2 up to 30-5. How to setup that with this device? How dif analog vs digital works |
Answer: | The digital channels 30-1, 30-2, 30-3 and above are technically on the same broadcast channel. In the antenna world, the broadcast channel is not necessarily the same as the number that shows up on your TV.In Detroit, where we are 4.1 is NBC and the sub-channels 4.2 and 4.3 come along with it. However it is broadcast on a channel VHF 7 in our area. You can use websites like antennapoint.com to find out the broadcast channel, which is often referred to as an RF channel or REAL channel. This device was designed after the digital transition, and is fully capable of finding and fine tuning. |

FAQ
Q: How does the signal meter work?
A:The digital transition changed television in many ways. Manybroadcasters were forced to move from the frequency they had been using for years. When this happened, broadcasters fought to continue to call themselves by their old channel, even if they were using a different one to send their programming.
This means that many stations will broadcast on one channel but say they are another. For example, KWQC in Davenport, IA, calls itself channel 6 and appears as channel 6 on the television. However, when the digital transition took place, KWQC moved its broadcast frequency to channel 36. The computer in the television translates the information that KWQC sends to identify itself as channel 6.
This translation slows down the tuner in the television, making real time signal strength impossible to measure. For this reason, the SensarPro displays only the broadcast or RF channel number. Therefore, when looking for KWQC in Davenport, IA, set the SensarPro to channel 36 instead of 6.
Q: Can I replace my existing wall plate with the new SensarPro wallplate?
A: Yes, the SensarPro wallplate will replace your existing wall plate in four easy steps outlined in the SensarPro manual.
Q: What modes does the SensarPro offer?
A: Antenna mode is broken into five modes: Scan, Seek,Channel, Gain, and Volume. Each mode is designed to improve the process of finding and tuning in to quality broadcast television signals. Anytime the SensarPro is in one of these modes, both the antenna and the mode light will be lit.

User questions & answers
Question: | can it be mounted upside down for attic installation |
Answer: | I would connect it and move it around while someone watches signal strength on tv before mounting. Sometimes different building materials can affect it. |
Question: | Can it be used in the attic |
Answer: | Yes, be aware that attic mounting an outdoor antenna can reduce it's signal gain by up to 50%. |
Question: | if i connect it to where my cable used to be that’s where it splits to all my tv’s .is there a power cord i need to plug-in out side |
Answer: | The MS-3005 is an amplified antenna and requires power from the provided power inserter on the coax cable. When splitting signal that power inserter has to be installed between the splitter and the antenna for proper operation. |
Question: | Does snow load impact the signal? If so, is there a heat mat attachment you can purchase |
Answer: | I've had a foot or more of snow and haven't noticed any degradation in signal strength. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this antenna be used in Canada? I'm about 100km from Plattsbourgh |
Answer: | Hello, You can use the SDSB80111 for single phase 3 wire applications rated for 120/240VAC. Regards, Schneider Electric Customer Care. |
Question: | Would mounting this in an attic with an insulated roof greatly impair the signal it receives |
Answer: | 80,000 according to their spec sheet |
Question: | I live in a small house and am thinkin on going with the WE7550A . 40 miles closest tower, rolling hills, etc. 3 tvs 20' apart. additional amp needed |
Answer: | Yes easy to install. You just need to mount the item to an appropriate surface, make sure the power is off before opening the service panel, and then correctly connect the wires to a double pole 20AMP breaker, as well as secure the ground wire to the grounding bus. Call a licensed electrician if you are unsure. |
Question: | Is the elite 7550 antenna atsc 3.0 capable and ready for the new fcc transition for the final phase of july |
Answer: | If one or two LEDs are out that indicates the breaker is no longer working and the circuits they supply must not be hot (useable). Check the two breakers with a voltage tester to be sure. Being in service for 12 years circuits may have seen the voltage spike and tripped the breaker. If they had been installed properly these two circuits would have fed voltage/current to circuits that were in use. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My flat screen tv, is an older model, and does not have the small plug, from the usb to power source, only has hdmi, and way around this |
Answer: | It comes with a plug-in adapter for the wall outlet. The usb cable supplied can either be used by itself and plugged directly into the usb port on the T.V. or utilize the supplied wall plug-in adapter and usb cable then plug directly into the wall outlet. You may have to use an extension cord unless you are close enough to an outlet. Extension cord will not hamper the use. |
Question: | What channels does it get |
Answer: | Depends on where you live. I get the 4 prime channels plus2 movie channels (oldies usually), grit, metv, several that carry old series like Hogans Heros and even Perry Mason. There are a couple of PBS stations, about 6 Spanish speaking ones and another half dozen religious stations |
Question: | Does this refurbished antenna have a 18.5 ft coax cable like the new one? Please no guesses, can someone who ownes one measure this for me, please |
Answer: | Yes. it is exactly the same antenna just refurbished. I ordered 2 of them and returned them both due to lack of signal reception strength. The new one's I purchased worked excellent but the refurbished one's failed to preform. |
Question: | Will this antenna work in a trailer |
Answer: | Sorry, but I have no idea. There is a new one called LightWave (I think) that is advertising that it works in RVs. But I can tell you that I've loved my Flat Wave antenna. I could get about 65 stations including all 4 prime times. However, I' don't speak Spanish, I'm not a fan of many others including some preachers, so I choose the stations I do like in Favorites. I love not having a monthly bill for TV! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this for 1 or 12 pcs |
Answer: | Yes, it weighs only a quarter of a pound. |
Question: | What’s the back look like |
Answer: | I only use one antenna, which is located in my attic. During the installation of a new roof, the antenna rotated 45 degrees and I still get the same signal reading as when it was pointed in the direction of the signals. I am 30 to 50 miles from the source. I have it connected to 3 television sets. |
Question: | Why does it only work for an hr then says no signal |
Answer: | Antennas Direct DB4e Extended Range Antenna |
Question: | Does this work with king antennas - such as the dish tailgater 4? i would think it does since the cable is the same |
Answer: | FM trap "blocks" FM signal so that's not what you want. But this amp will amplify whatever FM is sent to it so you must have a VHF/FM antenna not just a UHF antenna. |
