11 best amplifier cables
Amplifier cables, often referred to as coaxial cables or simply coax cables, are a type of cable commonly used in various applications, including TV antennas and audio-video setups. These cables play a crucial role in transmitting signals with minimal signal loss and interference. Here's what you need to know about amplifier cables:
Structure: Coaxial cables consist of several layers, including:
- Center Conductor: The innermost wire that carries the signal.
- Dielectric Insulation: A layer of insulating material around the center conductor, which maintains signal integrity.
- Metal Shield: A conductive layer that surrounds the dielectric, providing protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI).
- Outer Insulation: The final layer, which protects the cable from physical damage.
Impedance: Coaxial cables are designed to have a specific characteristic impedance, typically 50 or 75 ohms. The choice of impedance depends on the application. For example, 75-ohm cables are commonly used for cable TV and antenna connections, while 50-ohm cables are more common in applications like Wi-Fi and certain radio communications.
Signal Loss: One of the primary advantages of coaxial cables is their ability to carry signals over relatively long distances with minimal signal loss. This makes them suitable for transmitting TV signals from an antenna to your television.
Connectors: Coaxial cables use connectors such as F-type connectors or BNC connectors to establish a secure connection. F-type connectors are commonly used in home audio-video setups and for TV antennas.
Applications: Amplifier cables are widely used in various applications, including:
- TV Antennas: Coaxial cables are frequently used to connect TV antennas to television sets or signal amplifiers. The shielded design helps reduce interference, ensuring a clean and reliable signal.
- Cable TV: Cable television providers use coaxial cables to deliver TV signals to subscribers' homes.
- Satellite TV: Coaxial cables are also used for satellite TV installations to connect satellite dishes to receivers.
- Data Transmission: Coaxial cables, particularly 50-ohm versions, are used in data transmission for applications like Ethernet and certain types of broadband internet connections.
- Surveillance Systems: Coaxial cables are used in CCTV and surveillance systems to transmit video signals from cameras to recording devices.
Maintenance: To maintain good signal quality, it's essential to use high-quality coaxial cables and connectors. Keep the cables free from physical damage, and ensure the connectors are properly tightened. Over time, it may be necessary to replace older cables to prevent signal degradation.
Signal Quality: The quality of the signal transmitted through a coaxial cable can be affected by factors such as cable length, the quality of connectors, and the presence of interference. Using the appropriate type and quality of cable for your specific application is crucial for optimal signal quality.
In summary, amplifier cables, or coaxial cables, are versatile and widely used in TV antenna setups, audio-video systems, and various other applications due to their ability to transmit signals reliably with minimal loss and interference. Choosing the right type and quality of cable is essential for ensuring the best signal quality in your specific setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | May I use this product to split an fm signal from an antennae and send it to my recveivers and equipment which uses a coaxial cable |
Answer: | I don't see why not, the fm frequencies use the same antenna as vhf and as long as you have an antenna with that capability I believe so. The splitter/booster just distributes the signal equally between each connection so there is no signal loss from too many splits. Yes,it can be used for this purpose |
Question: | If this amp is not compatible with a tv broadcast rf/rx antenna, could you recommend a good one |
Answer: | this device is compatible with pretty much all service providers of COAX tv service like comcast, spectrum and verizon |
Question: | Can this be mounted outdoors |
Answer: | If mounted outdoors it should be in a sheltered, dry location - preferably in a telecom enclosure. The power supply is rated for INDOOR USE ONLY. |
Question: | Can two be daisy-chained successfully? I have one already but need more than 8 outlets in my home |
Answer: | No. Daisy chaining has a high probability of failure, and is strongly discouraged. If you need more that 8 ports it is better to use a 2-way splitter to feed 2 separate amplifiers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does the fuse holder come with a fuse installed or do i need to pick one up and if so what kind |
Answer: | It comes with the fuse holder and the fuse you have to install it but that's simple to do just install it about 6inches from the battery :) |
Question: | What gage is the speaker wire |
Answer: | The speaker wire in my kit was 16 gauge, I was hoping for at least 12 gauge. |
Question: | How long is the rca patch cable |
Answer: | 20 feet gold rca cable. It's long enough for me:) |
Question: | how many watts |
Answer: | 8 Guage can only handle a few hundred watts or so RMS. You might be able to get a 5-channel system that uses 700W RMS to be properly powered BUT that's probably right around the peak for this gauge of wire. That being said, BOSS WILL NOT WORK FOR THAT. Boss uses garbage materials and typically only deliver 1/3 of what they say they are delivering. I've seen the tests with my own eyes with wiring and amps and they fall apart. Don't wire anything more than 100W RMS or so total with this kit or you might melt it. |

Question: | Can just help with poor internet signal |
Answer: | Sorry, If dvd player attached to Surround AV Receiver |
Question: | It does work analog and digital antenna |
Answer: | No you do not need more cables. The HDMI cable has both sound and video. You are going to have to trouble shoot each item starting with the cable. And work your way by eliminating each item. Is the cable new and have you used it before with any other device? My blue-ray worked straight out of the box however I had a dvd player already hooked up with HDMI so I simply used all of the same wires. If you had to test the blue-ray player then see if you can hook up some rca jacks the red yellow white ones to the audio portion of the player and the tv. That way you can at least see if you get sound from the blue-ray player. If you have a different device to use the hdmi cable with I would test that but if you have used the cable before and you know it works then yes, you need to start checking settings on the box or even the tv. |
Question: | will this work with my outdoor digital antenna |
Answer: | Samsung BD-H6500 vs. BD-J7500 BD-H6500 (2014 model) versus BD-J7500 (2015 model)BD-H6500 may be the best choice1) Considerably lower price2) Same user features, i. e., 3D, UHD passthrough & upscaling, etc.3) BD-6500 has excellent reviews4) Both have dual core processors for fast load speedMajor consideration is in your current entertainment system:1) BD-J7500 is a better choice for those with older HDTV's that do not have 4K UHD pass-thru as it includes (2) HDMI out. That allows connecting (1) to the HDTV and the second to an older HDMI equipped audio receiver to achieve digital audio pass-thru It also includes 7.1 analog connections for older style audio receivers.Read full review |
Question: | I currently have hdtv antenna but i have keep moving it because my local channel keeps pixilating or too low of a signal. will this help me |
Answer: | If you have a 4K TV, it will display the signal it's fed. If you don't have a 4K blu-ray disc then it will upconvert as best as possible but unless you have a 4K player with a 4K blu-ray disc will your 4K TV be able to put out all true 4K in all it's glory. Some blu-ray players enhance or shall we say upconvert the reg blu-ray disc better than others but I'm sure you won't be too disappointed. As time goes by, 4K discs and more 4K movie content will become more abundant and you'll be ready for the future. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is an arpi2000 power inserter |
Answer: | A way to power the amp, but since this package comes with a DC power supply, and has a place to connect the supply with the provided cable, you don't need a power inserter. |
Question: | The install mentions a grounding wire. Does this device need to be grounded to work? Thanks |
Answer: | Grounding is recommended. Grounding can protect the device from surges or perhaps lightning strikes. Consult with an electrician for proper means of grounding. |
Question: | Will this work to boost internet signal? i don't have cable tv - our house is about 300 ft from the road and that seems to degrade our internet speed |
Answer: | If you have cable internet (only) you would like be better off with an "active return " amplifier. The only way to really know that for sure would be to check your cable modem for proper signal levels. I would not buy this if you're specifically trying to boost cable internet. |
Question: | How long is the power cord |
Answer: | Includes Amplifier, Power Supply, 36 inch coaxial cable and two 75-ohm port terminators. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used with an antenna preamp |
Answer: | Yes, I have a preamp running in front of this device. Doing great. If you're asking if it can be used as an antenna preamp then no. |
Question: | i have a horse trailer with a roof mounted digtal antenna. will this increase my reception power |
Answer: | I'm guessing the other 2 respondents might be correct, but the only reason I bought this unit was to amplify the signal I get through Time Warner cable system. This unit is supposed to amplify a signal 15%. What I don't know is if it would amplify a signal through a roof mounted digital antenna. I only paid $15 for mine and it might be worth the gamble. |
Question: | Can this item be used near the TV or does it have to go in the attic next to the antenna |
Answer: | For the best performance it is better to locate the amplifier close to the antenna, not the TV. This maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio, which provides the best reception. In some cases it can be very inconvenient or impractical to place the amplifier close to the antenna, in which case you can try in a more convenient location. Maybe your results will be acceptable. But if performance is only so-so, you may want to make the effort to get the amplifier closer to the antenna. Other considerations: 1. If you get an amplifier don't be fooled into thinking that more "more dB gain is better". It's not necessarily. Very high gain amplifiers can be more prone to saturation and intermodulation, which can make your TV reception worse. 8-15dB gain probably should do the trick unless you've got other problems, such as... 2. a bad TV receiver; 3. a bad or inappropriate antenna. If you're using an old antenna that wasn't designed for digital TV, it may be better to replace the antenna than to add an amplifier to an old antenna that is digital TV compatible; 4. antenna coax cable that is too long or poor quality. Don't use crummy antenna cable. Don't use pitiful RG58. RG59 at least, with quad shield. If you're a real stud, you might consider RG6. And use good connectors. This may mean buying a good quality connector crimper, not some sorry piece of junk. |
Question: | Can the dB gain ever be too much for a TV |
Answer: | dB is a ratio, and without a reference, doesn't have a value. Signals from an antenna are almost always in the micro-volts. The 4 output amplifier has a gain of 8dB, which is about 2.5, so the likelihood of overloading the TV's input is low, and if you have enough signal to do that, you wouldn't need an amplifier. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Waterproof for outdoor use |
Answer: | It doesn’t seem to be waterproof sealed. If you’re going to use it outside I think you should plug it into a GFI outlet |
Question: | what is the adjustable range |
Answer: | does not include numbers just bigger or smaller range |
Question: | Does the output go to the tv |
Answer: | Yes, output is to the usual coaxial cable that goes to the TV Antenna connection on the back of the TV. Or in my case to a distribution hub to send the signal to several rooms. |
Question: | I run a single tv off of an outdoor antenna, can i place this right at rhe tv or does it need to be a certain distance from the set |
Answer: | We have the amplifier right under the wall-mounted TV sitting on the mantle. We haven't tried repositioning it elsewhere. The TV jack and outlet are next to each other. I believe it would depend on where your jack and outlet are located to really determine the distance the amplifier can be placed from the TV. |
