Answer:	I had mine professionally replaced with an Ortofon 2M Black and I did not have to replace the counterweight, so I would think it would be the same for the red. By the way, I STRONGLY recommend that you DO NOT attempt to replace the cartridge yourself. I tried but the tonearm wires are so thin and flimsy that I accidentally severed one when my hand slipped. When I contacted the Music Hall company, they were totally unhelpful and told me I needed to get the tonearm totally rewired at my own expense. I contacted a local hi-fi repair shop and they were able to repair the wire in stead, but it still took 2 weeks because of a backlog. Good luck!
