Answer:	It's kind of a fresh scent, similar to some linen scents. The scent isn't noticeable unless you're a foot or two from the ball, no pun intended.

I bought a 2-pack for one pair of shoes from this vendor via Amazon, product had such a strong odor, I had to placed them in garage for two days. Unsure if each packaging has different fragrances, the balls in the pack you ask about was not overpowering, but who knows what might have changed in 2-4 years.

Answer:	I may not be the right person to ask, as I find the stuff so putrid that the cons outweigh the pros. Maybe try throwing some baking soda in the shoes and throwing them in the wash (if possible) and then using some purifying essential oils.
