14 best boot polishes
Boot polish is a product used to clean, protect, and enhance the appearance of shoes, including industrial construction boots. Here are some key aspects of boot polishes:
Cleaning and Conditioning:
- Boot polish typically contains ingredients that help clean the surface of the boots, removing dirt, dust, and stains.Additionally, many polishes contain conditioning agents that nourish the leather and prevent it from drying out or cracking.
Color Restoration:
- Boot polishes come in various colors to match different shoe shades. They are used to restore and enhance the color of the leather, giving the boots a polished and well-maintained look.
Waterproofing:
- Some boot polishes have water-resistant properties, helping to protect the boots from water damage. This is particularly important for those who work in environments where boots are exposed to moisture.
Shine Enhancement:
- Boot polishes often include waxes and other ingredients that create a shiny finish on the surface of the boots. This shine not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also provides an additional layer of protection.
Application Techniques:
- Applying boot polish typically involves using a brush or cloth to spread the polish evenly over the surface of the boots. Circular motions are commonly used to work the polish into the leather.
Types of Boot Polish:
- There are different types of boot polish, including cream polish, wax polish, and liquid polish. Each type has its unique properties and may be preferred based on personal preferences and the specific needs of the boots.
Frequency of Application:
- The frequency of applying boot polish depends on factors such as how often the boots are worn and the environmental conditions they are exposed to. Regular application helps maintain the appearance and durability of the boots.
Leather Compatibility:
- It's important to choose a boot polish that is compatible with the type of leather your boots are made of. Different leathers may require different formulations of polish for optimal care.
Stain Removal:
- Boot polish can be effective in covering minor scuffs and scratches, providing a quick and easy solution for maintaining the appearance of the boots.
When using boot polish, it's advisable to follow the manufacturer's instructions and test a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility with the boots. Regular care with quality boot polish can extend the life of industrial construction boots and keep them looking well-maintained.

User questions & answers
Question: | will this restore the faded color of a dark brown real leather sofa like a color restorer DYE |
Answer: | You should order the size 12 and trim if necessary. |
Question: | Should I use a leather cleaner first |
Answer: | The first set I bought were wide and I had to trim them to size, the second set were fit correctly. |
Question: | How does this compare to tried and true mink oil |
Answer: | Yes they should fit your boots, as long as they are of square toe design |
Question: | How many boots will one jar actually work on? What does "5 ounces" mean in practical use |
Answer: | Years ago I tried the green model and found that the support was inadequate. The Superfeet Black has much more support and also fits into most shoes. However, for shoes that have very little cushoning, I would use Supperfeet Copper that has a layer of foam. |

Experts always takes care of their tools because they know their tools take care of them. Danner boots are no exception, and Danner boot dressing is the key to maintaining boot quality. User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the old version that was made in germany or the new version which is made in the usa |
Answer: | No hockey skates |
Question: | I'm breaking in my danner cascade light boots. is this what i need? do i need brushes or a special cloth? thanks for your help |
Answer: | I'd say no - I use these in my soccer shoes due to low volume, but use superfeer black in most of my other shoes. Carbon does a good job of improving support over what comes with shoe, but Black seems a little more supportive as its 'beefier', but fits great in my athletic & dress shoes. |
Question: | Does this product have any smell at all that deer can detect |
Answer: | These are great for flat feet. They were recommended to me by my PT as part of the corrective regiment for my jumpers knee. They definitely are more rigid with the carbon insert. They will prevent your arches from flattening when your feet are fatigued and compromise the arch. They provide solid support. |
Question: | I applied this oil about fives to six days ago I can still rub off some with my fingers is it fine or excess with a rag or is it supposed to be lik |
Answer: | These were made by the boot manufacturer specifically for their boots. They fit perfect. Why mess with it? |

User questions & answers
Question: | flammable ingredients |
Answer: | Yes the shoe polish is flammable, I always ignite it for 3-7 seconds to liquify the polish when shinning my boots. If you choose to ignite the polish be sure to put the the top cap back on it to put it out. |
Question: | Will this work on black patent? If not this, what? Thanks |
Answer: | Does not work well with coated (patent) leather. I tried to use it to mask some spots where the coating got peeled off, it helps a little in this situation but not a lot. I wouldn't try it for any other reason. |
Question: | Does anyone know if this can be used on a handbag |
Answer: | Yes you can use it on your handbag but just make sure you buff it good and don't use too much as it may rub off onto clothing... |
Question: | Is this polish any better or worse than the original black kiwi polish? what i mean is the shine better or easier to attain |
Answer: | It can be very hard to find except around Military Bases. And yes it shines better than any other paste wax. Once you have many buffed coats built up it’s the best! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What color is this |
Answer: | Hopefully, you didn't apply too much; a little of this product goes a long way. If you have a shoe brush of the same or neutral color, try buffing the jacket. If that doesn't work, use a lint-free cloth to wipe away any excess. Hope this was helpful. |
Question: | I used this on my leather jacket and now it squeaks- A week of dry time- any solutions |
Answer: | Vegan leather is plant derived. Disregard everything the previous commenters have said. Use a beeswax based product to condition your shoes. |
Question: | Can this be used on the vegan leather boots |
Answer: | Yes, it’s NOT the GOOD OLD FORMULA from years ago that contained only beeswax, lanolin, and coconut oil. TRULY A SHAME. I lament over this as I used the old formula for conditioning vintage collectible holsters. Didn’t even use it for shoes. Moderns shoes will accept the new stuff, quality old leather won’t... nothing great ever stays great. Companies will always find a way to make it cheaper and most people don’t care.... |
Question: | So you're saying that dr martens changed their wonder balsam formula to include synthetic waxes |
Answer: | No, it should be fine. It does not contain bleach. Make sure to spray it onto a towel and wipe it on the surface rather than spraying directly onto to avoid over saturation. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this work well on softening a stiff (new) western style gun belt |
Answer: | Hello, yes this can be used on any leather boots. The leather will darken from the oils/waxes in the product. Brush clean prior to applying and apply liberally. A little bit of heat from a hair dryer or heat gun will help absorb into the leather. Buff off excess. If surface is sticky after applying, keep buffing as this is excess conditioner on the surface. |
Question: | Is this food for leather furniture |
Answer: | Not scented. Smells like good wax and oil. I knew Ray Holes and have used this product for over 40 years. I have revived saddles that others told me were not fixable. It is the best. |
Question: | Can i clean white leather |
Answer: | This works well for restoring dried out leather and cleaning up dirt on the surfaces. As with most cleaners/conditioners, it may darken the leather considerably. Use a wax applicator pad to put saddle butter on and wipe off excess. If surface is sticky to touch, continue buffing off excess material. |
Question: | can it be used for gloves |
Answer: | This Product is Manufactured in GERMANY |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use this on danner wenatchee boots |
Answer: | I brushed them first, then used a soft dry cloth to remove surface dirt. Didn't use a cleaner. |
Question: | Is the clear boot dressing ok to use on brown boots |
Answer: | Many traditional oils will do a decent job feeding and conditioning the leather. But natural oils are just one component of Boot Guard’s formula, and those natural oils are paired with waxes to create a waterproof seal along the leather’s surface. That thin wax layer keeps the oil in, and water and barnyard acids out, so that your boots stay conditioned for longer. Thank you for your question! |
Question: | This isn't a polish, but does it make the leather shinier than the kiwi no buff express shine? i saw some pictures that look extra shined by this |
Answer: | We reconditioned a dozen firefighter boots (Redwing #699 and White's Hathorn Smokejumpers), and applied Boot Guard liberally. They were tall 9-10" boots with a lot of surface area. Based on that, we estimate you could condition 40 pairs of boots with one 5 oz jar. |
Question: | Is this good for pronghorns |
Answer: | I bought full arch |

Answer: | Well since the polish is black....... |
Question: | Can this be used on a brown dining table |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have any kind of odor |
Answer: | Not particularly; real mink oil has a strong odor, but this isn't real mink oil - it's mostly TALLOW instead. |
Question: | My car's leather seats are constantly exposed to dry and hot conditions. Would mink oil be appropriate to use on them |
Answer: | If they aren't suede, then mink oil would be fine to use on them. That precludes this product, though, since it isn't real mink oil - it's tallow. |
Question: | what is the Genus, species and country of origin of the mink |
Answer: | The species is bovine (as in Bessy the Hereford); this product is TALLOW with only a small portion of mink oil added to justify the word "mink" on the label. |
Question: | Is this squozen from fresh live minks |
Answer: | No. Live minks don't work well in treating your dead cow products. I recommend enjoying fried mink nuggets with your steak. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have black boots with cut outs for different colored leather and also some gold painted swirls on the leather. Will this polish take the paint off |
Answer: | I use this to break in and maintain all my Danner leather boots as well as my dress shoes (from other brands). It works great and keeps the leather from cracking and seems to help repair minor abrasion damage. I didn't use a brush at first, for years, but that helps too. |
Question: | How can we open the cans of paste? Even with the screw latches, neither my husband nor I can open them |
Answer: | It does have a mild smell much the same as a mink oil dressing. Whether or not deer can smell the boot dressing I've no idea. For me the waterproof quality out weighed any smell concerns. I've not noted any animal detection of the boot treatment. Applied animal scents to clothing wal more than cover any scent from the boot dressing. Does the dressing work? Yes, it does everything it states it does. |
Question: | Is it water proof/resistant |
Answer: | I usually take the oil and put on my hands and rub my boots like I would apply lotion on myself. I let them sit out and usually by morning my boots have absorbed the oil. If not a rag would be fine to use to remove the excess. You don't want them wet enough where dirt will stick to them. |
Question: | Although it's clear, will this polish darken/affect the true color of the leather |
Answer: | Boot Guard does not, itself, contain any dyes. So if the original surface of the tanned leather was totally destroyed, Boot Guard can't return color definition. If the leather is merely faded and looking a little worn out, though, Boot Guard is ideal -- it saturates and seals the leather so that the color is normalized across the leather surface. If the leather has never been conditioned, and you're not sure if you're going to like the color, we recommend testing a little patch of Boot Guard in an inconspicuous spot. Once you know what the couch will look like, you'll have a better idea of whether or not you want to treat an entire couch with it. |
