Answer:	I think it would depend if you use wall anchors or screw into a stud. The shelves did not come with wall anchors, so if you use anchors it would depend what weight they are rated for. We purchased wall anchors and, the shelves have been sturdy with two 13 lb. cats on them.

Answer:	Absolutely possible to repair or replace the rope. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and pickup a roll of sisal or jute rope. The key is to use a staple gun with staples designed for coax cable (for TV's) to secure the rope to the post. Wear gloves so the rope can be pulled very tight and uses staples every so often to keep the rope tight. I'm getting ready to do my 2nd repair job on my scratching post as our cat just loves to use it.
