However, because they're mostly leather with few seams, they are very waterproof (many boots claim to be waterproof but are not--too many seams and non-leather parts) and keep your feet dry which helps keep them comfortable. You can buy insulated boots, but unless you're like my sister-in-law (her feet are always cold), they will be too warm in the summer. I much prefer to wear a non-insulated boot and then make them feel warmer/cooler by wearing wool socks in winter and cotton socks in summer. As long as your feet stay dry and you have good moisture-wicking wool socks, this sock method works for me in the winter. Make sure there's enough room in the boots for thicker wool socks--cramped feet will always feel cold. |

I only use it in winter time and raining day when the weather condition will not be safe with regular sneakers. I use this boot as snow day shoes in each year, for 15 years now, and the shoe is still in very good condition. I am thinking to get a second pair in different color now. BUT, I will not give this boot a 5 -star rating due to the very poor design of the show lace. For no reason, this round shoe lace constantly got loose when I was walking. After many years' upset with the original round shoe lace, I replaced it with regular flat shoe lace and it works very well now. Therefore, I suggest you also get a regular flat shoe lace ready when the round lace is not properly holding up, so you can just replace it. |

| Answer: | I think they're the same. Merrill calls it simply "W" for wide, whereas Amazon uses 2E to denote "wide", probably trying to be consistent with the many other brands they carry. I notice that another retailer I've bought Merrell's from just calls them "wide", not E or EE or anything else. I'm quite sure Merrell has only one level of "wide". |

| Answer: | Got my ventilators from REI, I don’t think so but I haven’t tested them heavily. I thought the ventilators had the M-select waterproofing (not gortex) technology but they might not. At least I know they don’t have gore-Tex. I am fine with that, because waterproofing, especially gortex, contains toxic fluoropolymers similar to Teflon. I don’t want to chronically expose myself to that unless waterproofing is absolutely critical, besides, these shoes dry pretty quickly. |

| Answer: | I'm not sure. I buy a 1/2 size bigger to accommodate the width. I've found the size increase (really about an 1/8 inch) is no factor....as I wear thicker socks at time and thinner as needed. The extra length puts the ball of my foot in the right place. I wear generic orthotics to save my feet (consider it, plantar facitutus sucks). Thin sock season? Put a thin Dr Scholls underneath. Ok...generic too. |

| Answer: | I live in the mountains in northern Colorado and I've worn (and worn out) Keen Targhee boots for many years. They're the most comfortable boots I've found. But they are not really waterproof. I would describe them as "water resistant". They work fine for awhile in heavy dew or an occasional step into a puddle that isn't too deep; but in drenched grass or continuous rain, my feet get soaking wet. I have tried wearing gators under my pant legs and over the Targhee's and that helps considerably - but my feet still get wet if I am hiking in wet conditions for several hours. I have a pair of Asolo boots with goretex that I wear in those conditions - but they aren't as comfortable. |

We refined the original pattern just enough to be slightly more streamlined and integrate more modern materials without losing its quintessential '80s aesthetic. Perfecting the colors was a must and the original Jag was a key source of inspiration as we selected full-grain leathers and highly durable nylon to bring the updated pattern to life. Lastly, we used a waffle-style outsole, common on vintage athletic shoes, to give universal grip from trail to town.
