User questions & answers
Question: | Is this jacket light enough for SoCal cooler nights/mornings? Need warmth in a light weight jacket for San Diego |
Answer: | I would say yes. Love this jacket. |
Question: | What size do you recommend for an average 3 year old |
Answer: | Always size up for carhartt. My son is in a size 6/7 and we bought him an 8. 8 will be too small next year and he’ll have to wear a 10/12. We’ve had to do this for every carhartt article we’ve ever bought him. Always size up. |
Question: | How does this jacket compare to the active jac |
Answer: | Below are the product features for both styles for you to compare. Product Features: CP9460: Carhartt Sherpa Lined Redwood Jacket 100% Cotton Microsanded Canvas Full Zip Hooded Jacket Sherpa Lined Main Body & Hood Quilted Taffeta Lining In Sleeves Triple-Stitched Main Seams For Added Durability Insulated Front Pockets Hidden Rib Cuffs Drop Tail Hem Carhartt Brandmark Label On Front Pocket Name Tag Label On Inside Pocket Machine Washable Imported Product Features: CP9552: Carhartt Quilt Lined Flannel Camo Hooded Active Jac 100% Cotton Printed Canvas Mossy Oak® Print Full Zip Hooded Jacket Brushed Tricot Lined Main Body & Hood Quilted Taffeta Lining In Sleeves Triple-Stitched Main Seams For Added Durability Insulated Front Pockets Rib At Cuffs & Bottom Hem Carhartt Brandmark Label Below Chest Pocket Name Tag Label On Inside Machine Washable Imported Victoria-Lollytogs |
Question: | Is this jacket tough like a usual Carhart jacket that takes years to break in, or is this soft enough for a child to wear and enjoy |
Answer: | It's a little stiff but not as bad as an adult Carhart & would recommend washing it to soften it up. I don't recommend putting them in a car seat with this on as it is very thick & bulky. I bought it for my 2 year old last year in a 3T size & it still fits great & is perfect for really cold weather or playing in the snow. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How much cold can this jacket take |
Answer: | I am very pleased with the warmth that this jacket provides. I'm always cold, but not when I'm wearing this... |
Question: | What's the outside fabric? Some kind of heavy canvas or is it truly cottony |
Answer: | It's duck cloth. Almost like a brushed canvas. Not soft, but not uncomfortable either. It's what helps it stand up to the elements. It's not technically waterproof, but it's a thick enough fabric that you'd have to stand in a downpour for awhile before you got wet. |
Question: | Is it Water repellent |
Answer: | No, but we have sprayed it with water repellant that is used on camping gear and it helps shed the water. |
Question: | in 5'2 and 125 lbs what size would be good for me |
Answer: | I am 5'3 and 115 lbs and ordered an XS that fits perfectly .. maybe even a little big - S is too big and Big Girls L/XL is too tight in the chest if you have larger breasts. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I found this item in store, for some reason the black was a weaker material. was that a fluke or is that the same with these |
Answer: | I purchased the burgundy and haven’t had any problems. I washed it in my washing machine and it’s fine. |
Question: | Is there a men's version of this jacket |
Answer: | Yup. Google "carhartt men's shoreline jacket" |
Question: | Is this jacket warm enough to be a snowboarding jacket |
Answer: | This is a rain jacket and would not be warm enough on its own to wear around snow. |
Question: | Is this jacket very warm |
Answer: | I was nice and toasty in rainy 40-50 degree range. I think I'd personally be ok in the 30's as it's a windbreaker too, and nice and long. Don't think I'd wear it much past the 50's as I'd be too warm |

Question: | I am 5’3 110 pounds what size would fit me |
Answer: | That’s my sons size and I bought him a XL and it fits great |
Question: | Grandson is a 3t, but want some room to grow into so will last a season or three. Will a xxs work ok |
Answer: | He would have lots of room to grow. But it’s really great quality so he would 100% get use out of it, if not now, then as he grew a little. My son is a kids 5 and I ordered an extra small. He will get to wear it again next year for sure. |
Question: | I am 5'2 160 lbs what size would fit me best |
Answer: | I bought this jacket for my 10 year old grandson. He's 5 ' even, but I don't know how much he weighs. Even so he's big for his age so I bought him the largest size in the children's size (knowing it should last him 2 years) then I'll have to buy him adult sizes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I'm 5.8ft and 180lb, what size do i need to choose |
Answer: | I bought this for my son who's 5.8ish and 160lbs (14 yrs old)I got him a large. It's slightly big, but he like how it fits because he can easily wear a sweatshirt under it. |
Question: | I am 5"7 and 150lb. Would i be a medium or a large if u were to want to wear a small hoodie inside of this as well or just so its not tight fitting |
Answer: | Carhartt suggests using your chest measurement for the most accurate fit. A Medium: Chest 38-40" and a Large: Chest 42-44". Thank you for your business. Your orders are always appreciated. If there is anything else we can do for you, please email us. -The Rugged Outfitters Customer Service Team |
Question: | Is this Jacket good for outdoor construction work |
Answer: | Yes, it would be good for outdoor construction work. On extremely cold days you can wear a flannel shirt under it. I don't know how good it would be for welding work though. It may not be flame retardant. If you want to wear it on rainy days, you can spray it with water repellent. The coat will probably last years. You just can't beat Carhartt for warmth and durability. |
Question: | what is the difference between the J130 and J140 jackets |
Answer: | the j140 is different from the j130 is only the fact that it is made of a heavyweight, ring-spun cotton dock material. This means that it is firmer than the j130. Also, this means that it is water repellent and wind resistant, while the j130 is not as resistant as this jacket. If you’re looking for a jacket that will keep you very warm during the winter and will repel a bit of water, the j140 may be for you. But just remember that it is stiffer, which some people find is not quite as comfortable as the softer j130. Another thing I want to mention is that the j140 is made in the USA with imported parts. Some people love the fact that it is made in the USA because they feel that it must be made with higher quality processes. This is totally up to the individual and their own beliefs. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a 40 unch waist and i have a carhartt jacket in XL that is just a bit too big. Would a large be a good fit for me |
Answer: | I'm 6' 195lbs. 36" waist (at hips / lg. gut) 46â chest. The Lg. Carhartt J140 fits pretty good, though I actually wish the waistband was smaller so I'm thinking it should fit a 40" waist. Good luck. |
Question: | For what range of temperatures would you recommend using this? Where I live it doesn't get below -5° Celsius that much but that's a lot for us |
Answer: | Carhartt does not temperature rate their garments because everyone has a different threshold for what they consider to be warm. I think the J140 will be fine in 23 degree weather. The J133, that has are Arctic quilt lining is their warmest. |
Question: | I wear 3X shirts , 56 inch waist. Will a 4X large fit me |
Answer: | Yes. You may want to consider the tall |
Question: | Does it run small |
Answer: | I bought a small and it’s still huge on me. I’m 5’7” and size 30 waist. I would say this runs big. |

User questions & answers
Question: | sleeve length |
Answer: | The sleeve length is different with different sizes. |
Question: | Does this sweatshirt feel like a regular sweatshirt, or is it a little smooth almost shiny to repel the water |
Answer: | Feels much more sturdy heavier/thicker than a regular sweatshirt very good in colder weather but in extreme temps wear a jacket or coat. It’s wonderfully rain repellant though so maybe it’s that with it that makes it feel thicker. But it ain’t no thin sweatshirt that’s for sure. |
Question: | What temperature range would this be comfortable, if I just wore a T-shirt under it |
Answer: | We live in the interior of Alaska. My husband and I each have one. I bought them last year at the onset of winter and we lived in them through the winter because they were so nice. The temperatures dipped into the -20’s a few times and with a t-shirt on underneath his, he was comfortable in the house. That’s equivalent to humid 20’s-30’s in the lower 48 to help you guys out. With his hoodie layered with his storm jacket that he bought years ago from another major retailer, he’s good 2 go. I really don’t layer unless I get hellaciously cold, then I REALLY layer. That sweatshirt was a great investment. Popped it on yesterday against the chill of the humidity, BAM! Gone! |
Question: | Anyone have experience with the effectiveness of the Rain Defender coating after repeated washings |
Answer: | I have had more than one rain defender product and found that it does actually hold up well with washing and drying, but air drying has worked best for me whenever possible. |
