Answer:	I'm in San Diego, so I may not know what heavy wind is. But it was windy enough to knock some plants and things over and the awning did fine. It does have a rope included, that you can use to roll it up. My handy man installed it. So it does roll or fold back. I just haven't tried it yet. Hope this helps.

It took awhile to get used to it, since I usually use golf-sized umbrellas. But, for its size, it is very comfy, and doesn't have any odd pieces sticking out to cut or catch your skin or clothes.
