Answer:	I am sorry, but I returned this umbrella to Amazon without any problem. The issue was that either I was shipped the wrong umbrella, or the one I ordered from Amazon's webpage was not the one shipped to me. The issue focuses on the fact that the one I received did not have an open/close button on the bottom of the handle. One must open and close the umbrella entirely by hand, i.e., not auto open/close feature since there is no button. The umbrella I finally selected from Amazon/Totes is the totes Automatic Open Close Compact Foldable Travel Umbrella purchases in November 2018. The price at the time was about $16-$17. This unit does have the auto open/close button that I was looking for. Now, specific to your question, the one I finally purchased measures 35 inches on the diameter from two points with the tape measured across the unit and measured under the open umbrella. If I measure over the top of the umbrella, i.e., from one point to the center and from the center to the opposite point, the measurement is 38 inches. Hope this helps.
