Answer:	It is more than a traditional sneaker for sure, but not a full hiking boot either. Not a great answer happy medium. My son has worn these for months and we hike a lot. Not one ankle injury. We love them.

Answer:	I believe they are. My son wears size 6 in adult male sizes. However, I do not recome to them. They fall apart super easy. In less that four months the shoes were a mess.
