Answer:	These are not horse riding boots, they're fashion. Horse riding boots have a lot of traction on the soles and either come just above the ankle or all of the way up to the knee and are very form fitting (for English) mid calf if Western. If you get boots without a lot of traction on them your kids foot will keep coming out of the stirrups/irons.

Answer:	These are not hiking boots and I am pretty sure they are not waterproof. A good waterproof boot will cost much more. Not that you can't use them as a hiking boot, but they will not be waterproof nor comfortable enough for that.
