How To Care for Gold Plated Jewelry

It is very important to understand that gold plating requires very gentle care.

Gold plated jewelry shouldn’t be ever wiped or polished with any coarse fabrics, because you can gradually rub off the plating. It won’t happen in one day, but it gradually will remove the gold layer, no matter how thick the plating is. This does happen with gold as well, but because it’s gold throughout, there is no visible difference except that your jewelry gets slightly thinner over the years.

The best way to clean it is to use a dry chamois or microfiber cloth. You would need to remove any oils from your jewelry first, by using a cotton ball dampened with a bit of alcohol or vinegar.

You should NEVER try cleaning your plated jewelry with any abrasive or powder-like substances.

Answer:	Bn waitin 4this ? A while now bcuz they say it cant be shortened but IT CAN!. Very easy, each link is aprmxly 3/4" so figure out what links are cmg off. Theres 2 tapered pins in each link, it looks like a pin goes all the way thru in each link on either side, its not 1 pin tho. Theres 2, 1 on each side. Now with needle pliers or something like them you have to pull each pin out on both sides. Its just a small pin that connects both links. Once you have both small pins out its pretty self explanatory taking the link out. The only thing left to do is make sure you attach the closer link when putting back 2gthr so it hooks up still. Last thing after putting ur now shortened bracelet back 2gther is when replacing the 2 locking pins that connect links use pliers nd put a rag in btwn teeth of pliers nd bracelet so u dont scratch nd ruin it. Put pliers over both pins, the whole link in mouth of pliers on its side with pliers ends on each pin, both at same time just squeeze pins back in til snug. Remember pins R narrow at bottom n get wider at the head to lock in. Just check routinely nd you can go over the whole bracelet nd make sure all the rest are in tight. Good luck, just dont let urself make it harder then it is bcuz I had to do this to both my bracelets nd theyr great now.. pls let me know or ne other help I can be. (717) 644-7776 JR.

Answer:	Yes it can be shortened you have to take to a jeweler or you can take links out your self i have 2 and have shortened both myself. The pins that hold the links together can be pull apart, you can possibly use a flat head screw driver and jus wedge it by the pin until it pops out I have a watch tool kit so I just used the tools from there
