Grow Corn Poppy or Red Poppy from fresh Papaver rhoeas wildflower seeds. Papaver rhoeas, or "Red Poppy" will produce eye popping waves of paper like flowers in a bright, red color. Poppy flowers are roughly 2 inches in diameter and are accented with a deep, dark center. Their red blooms open up over top of stems that grow 12 to 30 inches tall. User questions & answers
Question: | how do I plant them |
Answer: | Poppy seeds need light to germinate. Spread directly on bare soil. Do not cover. Water lightly. Seedlings need regular water until roots develop. |
Question: | Zone 4 perrenial |
Answer: | I’m in CO. I spread these in June, water daily, have had great growth. These are annuals and come back for me every year. |
Question: | We are in Wy..Will these work in pastures |
Answer: | Hi there, I just bought them and I have a small pasture of about 3.7 acres. To ensure they would sprout, though I wanted them for my conservation space - I did kind clean a patch of ground of about 3 feet (I only bought two packets). It's been about 2 weeks and they are all sprouting. I live in MD and the weather is still unpredictable (34-70 degrees). I think I may have made a mistake in sort of just mounding them in a long line. The seeds are minuscule too. But, we had a really hard couple of days of rain and temp drops - and they seem to be hardy. I do suggest clearing a bit of space for them though so that the grasses don't interrupt them too much. It allows for the sun to hit them and the water directly as well. Good luck. Will add photos to my review assuming they pop up by summer. |
Question: | How do you plant the seeds? Water? What is the best soil and conditions |
Answer: | we planted these sees (all of them) using standard soil, not a special potting soil. They are all coming up beautifully but we get lots of rain here. No fertilizer. Just plant them and leave undisturbed. |
Question: | Will the poppies grow if the seeds are simply scattered on the soil? What does one need to do to get the poppies growing |
Answer: | I think this varies with soil and climate. I raked mine in and watered them. But they're beautiful and worth a little effort. Good luck with them! |
Question: | Is this a lb |
Answer: | No, this is nowhere near a lb of seed. We sell seeds by quantity. We don't sell by weight. These seeds will come in a 3.25" x 4.50" packet filled with 10,000 seeds. Thank you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Any instructions how to handle/plant the seeds |
Answer: | I mixed the seeds with a really fine sand so that I could see where they landed. I just scattered them over the top of the soil and watered them lightly. |
Question: | How to handle the seeds if I buy now and want them to bloom this summer |
Answer: | My mother had poppies in her garden that appeared year after year. The seeds fell from the pods in the fall/winter as they dried. Therefore, I think the best time is to scatter the poppy seeds is in the fall/winter. They are so tiny and really just need to be dropped into loose moist soil. We will see this spring if that worked. |
Question: | can the seed produced after the bloom be used for baking |
Answer: | Yes same seeds for poppy seed buns |
Question: | Where is Isla Garden Seed |
Answer: | Not really sure but are stated no gmo and organic on Amazon and Gurneys sites |
