Answer:	The other answer is misleading. This is a 2G phone. The reason it worked for the grandfather of the other person who answered is, T-Mobile still has its 2G network up and running — sort of. According to something I read, in many places, T-Mobile has converted much (but not all) of the spectrum that its 2G network used to 4G, and as a result, the reception for 2G-only devices is hit-or-miss depending on your location.
