When your item is held in place (14in) it can then be turned forwards and back to prevent glare. Got this for my Mom to use with her ipad. Works great with the case on too! As Karen mentioned, it is good of quality, but you need to be careful with 2 plastic placers that hold the back up if you want it high. Once in a locked position there doesn't seem to be any problems. If the plastic does break, I think can still use it at a lower level, so it's not a total loss!
