Question: I'm looking for a large electric pressure cooker without tons of other features. i don't can, tho. should i still consider it? thanks
Answer: To me the whole point of this canner is it does have lots of features (electronics are cheap). This single unit has replaced my crock pot, a smaller electric pressure cooker (That was not certified to can), and gives me a way to can smaller batches (Like the leftover chili I made with this device). The extra features are easy to use, so I don't see the downside. Plus it is way easier to use than hauling out my large stove top pressure canner. So yes, I would still consider it. This purchase was well worth it and will quickly pay for itself in better food and money saved.
Question: Can I can Apple pie filling using this canner
Answer: Yes I have successfully done so using the Amish Canning Cookbook recipe on page 136 but you have to use wide-mouth quart jars which should be nbd given the amount / consistency of the filling.

Answer: Yes you CAN ....this is a pressure CANNER and I’ve used it extensively for canning chilli and meat sauces etc. it’s the perfect canner except for the size. It only holds four quart jars max

Answer: This is not an error code. When the Carey shows E10 it is starting the venting process necessary to pressure can. The instructions, including the revised ones, are not clear on this. When you are pressure canning, the pressure limiting valve should be on "exhaust". After a bit, the Carey will beep and show E10, do nothing...you should allow the Carey to vent until the countdown reaches E0 and then switch the pressure valve to "airtight". The timer will begin shortly after you switch to "airtight".

It doesn't hurt your product to do it anyway, but it does require additional time and energy and is unnecessary. So, in summary: Is a 5-minute process time enough to sterilize jars? Answer: The product comes with a very small owners manual, but it does not explain how to use the canning feature. The company is not responding to my requests for instructions or information.

Answer: User manual states that the High Pressure setting produces a pressure of 80 kPa which is about 11.6 PSI. This is not high enough to safely can low acid foods.

Question: How many Amps does it pull
Answer: The label says 120 volts 1000 watts. The owners manual states nothing. The manual states it could take 'up to 17 minutes to build up full pressure.' Real figures are between 20 and 30 minutes..so it can't be drawing too many amps...I would guess around 5 amps or less.
Question: can you can low acid foods with the power pressure cooker XL
Answer: Yes, you CAN can in this. There are 3 electric pressure canners (that I know about) which you can safely can low acid foods with (at sea level). This item (in various sizes), the Ball FreshTech 1440035015 Auto (expensive), and the one I have, the CAREY DPC-9SS Smart Pressure Canner & Cooker (expensive on Amazon sometimes). The reason I like the Carey is that it can take the quart widemouth jars, and can also can at higher elevations. I have canned HUNDREDS of jars with my electric canner - mostly meats. Never a problem. You cannot can low acid foods with just a standard electric pressure cooker though, like the Instant Pot. It must be designed for canning, like the three I referenced above.
Question: I do free lance surgery out of my garage. Can I use this to sterilize my equipment
Answer: If the psi in this pressure cooker reaches 15psi, which is 135 pka if I remember correctly, which should be marked on the bottom of the part that releases the pressure (it can be removed to check), then it can be sterilized by increasing the time of cooking at highest pressure by 15-25% of the recommended one. For consumables (tools, media bottles, etc) it is 15-25min depending on the manufacturer recommendations, so it would be around 25-30min for consumables (I usually round up to keep it longer). However, decontamination of used consumables, depending on the type of possible hazard can be much greater, normally around 45min, then once it is done, you wash again, and set up for another round to sterilize for a good 25-30min. Then wait about 5min to depressurize, and you can remove the tools. If these are very sensitive items, such as for cutting, I suggest to check how long they should be sterilized initially, then you might have to place (after drying) to a single-bags for surgical tools for autoclaving to run these again and they will seal automatically as the temperature is reached out, they (the bags) should also change the colors after sterilizing. Sure-Lock Safety System

Only the NuWave Nutri-Pot includes the Sure-Lock system which is comprised of multiple independent safety features, making the Nutri-Pot the safest digital pressure cooker available today. Other digital pressure cookers have been known to open prematurely while still pressurized. Because safety is a core value at NuWave, you’ll never have to worry about that when cooking with the Nutri-Pot.

This system combines a food blocking cap, lid lock function, and a final bottom pressure switch to ensure that the Nutri-Pot will only pressurize if the lid is securely fastened. The Sure-Lock safety light indicator lets you know when the cooking chamber is still pressurized. This advanced system will only let you open the lid once the pressure reaches a safe level.

Easy To Use

User questions & answers

Question: Does it have wifi feature
Answer: The answer someone gave that they cooked a pot roast and vegetables in one hour is questionable. Perhaps if the meat was cut into very thin slices, it could work, though it’s doubtful that hard vegetables like carrots & potatoes would be done. In a slow cooker, the “high” temperature is still very low at 300°. For tender meat, especially large pieces like pot roast, and hard vegetables, you must cook it several hours on high or many hours on low (or a combination of both high and low). The high setting for 1 1/2 to 2 hours is equivalent to 15-30 minutes in a moderate (350°) oven. I’ve used slow cookers for 30 years. They are not fast, as their name implies!
Question: Does the instant pot max have usda approval for pressure canning
Answer: If it helps any, I have a Nesco Roaster & the inner pot to it is lightweight & ceramic coated. It roasts & cooks some of the best pork, beef, poultry. I'm reading up on the newest Instant Pot releases myself. I like this Aura & also the Gem but would like to know the maximum pound size these take. The only reason I'm looking to replace the Nesco with an IP roaster is to have better temperature setting. Nesco has a knob with far too much 'play' in the turn. I want more precise roast setting ability.
Question: Does it sterilize
Answer: 131 is the golden number. I cooked a turkey breast at 131 after injecting it with a spicy butter garlic mix for 24 hours. I cook all my steaks at 131 for 4 hours and my chicken the same... that is the magic number for at least 4 hours but turkey and pork are 24+ hours. For the turkey breast, I filled the bag with oil so the temperature would distribute evenly in the bag. As long as you get all the air out.
Question: Is it usda approved for canning
Answer: To help clean it if you have a hard mess. Put 4 cups of water in the pan and set it on the steam function for 15 or so minutes.
