Bottom Line, New York 1974 - The Full 17 Track Broadcast Performance
Having spent much of the 1960s making a name for himself as a session musician, Ry Cooder's sights during the 1970s were set clearly on making his own records, and across the decade he released a string of eclectic and critically-acclaimed solo albums. His 1974 set, Paradise And Lunch, focused on a folk and blues sound, and featured appearances from musicians Jim Keltner and Russ Titelman, with legendary jazz pianist Earl 'Fatha' Hines performing too on the record's closing cut, a version of Blind Blake's 'Ditty Wah Ditty'. Paradise and Lunch garnered praise from all corners, with esteemed music critic Robert Christgau hailing Cooder's unique ability to interpret and reimagine songs, both obscure and classic, as majestic. Despite only playing a handful of shows during the course of the year, each of Ry Cooder's appearances during 1974 was a momentous occasion in itself for various reasons. His performance at The Bottom Line in New York on 16th May 1974 was one such event. Cooder's performance, which was broadcast across the region by FM radio, was indeed majestic, and featured a fully acoustic set on which the maestro's finger-picking style is heard to its bewildering best. The entire show, featuring 17 complete songs and some wonderful between-number banter from the very dry but witty Ry, is now included on this CD. With two tracks from his latest album, Cooder also showcases a wide array of tunes from his back catalogue and elsewhere, proving just what an understated master of song and a truly awe-inspiring musician he really is. As a footnote, at the conclusion of Cooder's set, Neil Young, who'd been watching Cooder from the audience, felt so inspired by what he'd just heard that he took to the stage himself and performed his own set, which included his now infamous honey slides monologue. Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne continues.
It stretches from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, where a young queen raises an army. All the while, in the frozen north, an 800-foot wall of ice precariously protects the war-ravaged kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men; all play the 'Game of Thrones.'
An original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series.

RARE 1974 PERFORMANCE FROM NEW YORK S BOTTOM LINE CLUB Deeply affected by the narcotic-induced deaths of Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten in 1972 and roadie Bruce Berry the following year, Neil Young became somewhat adrift and lost in a haze of drugs and drink following these tragic events. He went on to record the brooding Ditch trilogy , starting with the live Time Fades Away in 1973, followed by Tonight s The Night (which commemorated Berry in its title track) recorded in 73 but not released until 1975, and On The Beach in 1974. By mid 74 Young was reaching the end his dark period and on May 16th that year he performed the show now released on this CD for the first time. A wholly unplanned and spontaneous event, Young had been an audience member at a Ry Cooder gig that evening, played at the Bottom Line in New York, and so inspired was he by what he d witnessed that at Cooder s conclusion he took to the stage and performed this quite extraordinary set. In typical Neil Young fashion, much of the material featured is from then unreleased albums, including numbers to come on Tonight s The Night, On The Beach and 1975 s Zuma. His more familiar material was not absent however, and Neil even includes a version of the old Buffalo Springfield tune Flying On The Ground Is Wrong . All captured live on FM radio, Young s entire performance was a fascinating rare collection of such songs as Ambulance Blues , Pardon My Heart and Revolution Blues , presented here in a seldom-heard solo acoustic format.

Directed by comedian Shelley Berman and starring former Monkee Micky Dolenz, Keep Off My Grass is a stoner comedy that had a limited run on it’s initial release. In fact, it’s fair to say that hardly anyone saw the movie when it first came out in the mid 70's and almost no one has seen it since. Never released on video or DVD, this is the first time this movie has been publically available. Sourced from a VHS copy owned by the producers Albert J Salzer & Allan D. Yasnyi, this DVD is presented in this low-fi version as a matter of historical interest. Lovingly restored by film archivist Garrett Gilchrist, please don’t expect HD quality! It is taken from a low quality VHS of a screening of the film, while everything has been done to make the image as sharp as possible, it is of a lot lower quality than we have come to expect. This really is for hardcore fans. Thank you for your understanding on this matter! Monkees expert Iain Lee has spent years searching for this film and has included some great extras to make this a very special package for fans of Dolenz, kitsch and lost 70’s classics.
