14 best games for preschoolers
Here are some games and activities related to animals, children's books, and books that are suitable for preschoolers:
1. Animal Charades: This game involves acting out animals without using words, and preschoolers can guess the animal based on the movements and sounds. It's a fun way to encourage creativity and animal recognition.
2. Animal Bingo: Bingo games featuring pictures of animals can help preschoolers learn about different animals while enjoying a classic game.
3. Animal Matching Game: Create a matching game where preschoolers match pictures of animals with their names or the sounds they make. This can be a great way to introduce early reading skills.
4.Storytime with Animal Books: Reading children's books with animal themes is a wonderful way to engage preschoolers. Classics like "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin Jr. and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle are excellent choices.
5. "Dear Zoo" Activity: After reading the book "Dear Zoo" by Rod Campbell, you can create an interactive activity where preschoolers can "open" crates or boxes to reveal stuffed animals or pictures of animals, just like in the book.
6. Animal Puzzle Books: Look for children's books that include puzzles or interactive elements related to animals. These books often have flaps to lift, textures to touch, and hidden surprises to discover.
7. Animal Sound Guessing Game: Play a game where you make animal sounds, and preschoolers try to guess which animal is making the sound. This is a fun way to reinforce animal recognition and sounds.
8. Alphabet Animal Books: Explore books that focus on animals corresponding to each letter of the alphabet. For example, "A is for Alligator" or "Z is for Zebra."
9. Animal-themed Sticker Books: Sticker books with animal themes can be both entertaining and educational for preschoolers. They can place stickers of animals in their respective habitats or create their own animal scenes.
10. Visit the Library: Take preschoolers to the library and encourage them to pick out books with animals that interest them. Many libraries also offer storytelling sessions with animal-themed books.
These activities and games can help preschoolers develop early literacy skills, expand their vocabulary, and foster a love for books and animals. They provide engaging and interactive ways to learn and have fun at the same time.

User questions & answers
Question: | Why is the manufacturer recommended age listed as 3 - 7 months? The warning says choking hazard for kids under 3 yrs |
Answer: | That appears to be an error. I suspect it's supposed to say 3-7 years. My 3yr old loves this game. My 7yr old tires of it a little more quickly. I'd suggest this is a great game for 3-6 years old. |
Question: | How sturdy are the logs? They appear to be cardboard. Are they |
Answer: | yes, but they are of the same thick sturdy construction of the box. for comparison's sake - take the trivial pursuit box vs. monopoly or chutes and ladders. the latter two end up ripping at the seams and are easily crushed. Trivial pursuit box is much sturdier and holds up. Sneaky Snacky Squirrel (box and logs) are better and stronger than trivial pursuit. if you step on the logs, they'll probably show damage, but form regular handling, not at all. in fact not only are they thick board, they are coated. my son also just got chutes and ladders and it is so cheap and flimsy - this game (SSS) was so well made that it was actually an ooh and aah session when we passed it around. like I said, 4 ppl ordered it once they saw it. If you are considering this game, I recommend it 1000%. and I do mean 1000 |
Question: | why can`t an 85 year old play this game...why does the recommended age go to 83 years and 4 months |
Answer: | I suppose it's along the same answer as to why the manufacturers recommended age is 3 -7 months but there is a warning it's not for children under 3 years old. Good thing this isn't a counting game. |
Question: | |
Answer: | Or, what is 3+0. Or 5-2. So many possibilities. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many cards per box and are there expansion packs |
Answer: | 6 double sided cards (they are boards really, not cards). I haven't seen an expansion pack- you could probably photocopy the board and laminate them though. |
Question: | what age group is this for |
Answer: | My son loved it around 4-5 but at 7 he has lost interest. He’s on to more complicated games now. |
Question: | Since here are images on the tiles, would you say that this game will help little ones learn to read words? I'm afraid they'll just stick to the image |
Answer: | Yes, seeing the letters and the picture does help little children learn to read words. You can reinforce the letter-word association by quickly reviewing each tile after the game has ended. Cover either the photo or the letters and ask the child to identify what is covered, but don't let this review detract from the fun of the game. If you take a peek at alphabet books for little children, you will see a picture that begins with the letter on that particular page, helping the child learn the sounds of letters. |
Question: | What is the difference between zingo word builder game and thinkfun's what's gnu game? thank you |
Answer: | I don't have the game What's Gnu. Based upon the description, they seem very similar. The different seems to be that Zingo Word Builder has three words per card and is played more like a challenge game. What's Gnu seems to be true world building, card by card. I purchased Zingo because I have multiple Zingo games in my classroom. Once the students learned to play one game, they could easily figure out how to play Zingo 1-2-3, Word Builder, Sight Word, etc. Hope this helps. |

Run, little mice, run! Many people played this board game as kids and new generations can enjoy classic gameplay with the Mouse Trap game. Players move their mouse pawn around the gameboard collecting cheese wedges and building the entertaining and crazy Mouse Trap contraption…but don't get trapped! The goal is to trap other players' mouse pawns in the trap while trying to be the last player left. Kids and parents can enjoy lots of laughs while playing this board game together. Hasbro Gaming and all related terms are trademarks of Hasbro.
Build a better mousetrap? We dare you. Naturally, the object is to trap mice in the mousetrap, while avoiding getting trapped. By rolling the die, you proceed around the game board, collecting cheese pieces and building a mousetrap bit by bit. Once complete, you set the wheels in motion, as it were, to try to capture the opposition's mice. But this is no ordinary trap. With this contraption you start by turning the crank, that rotates the gears, that push the lever, that moves the shoe, that kicks the bucket, that sends the ball down the stairs and into the gutter, that leads to the rod that releases a second ball, that falls through the bathtub and onto the springboard, that catapults the diver into the washtub, that causes the cage to fall and--whew!--hopefully, capture a mouse. The last "mouse" left uncaptured wins --Alison Golder

Question: | What are the pancakes made of...are they soft or hard |

Question: | What kind of plastic are the pancakes made of? Hard, soft, polypropylene, vinyl, etc |
Answer: | Soft plastic |
Question: | will this be good for a 5 year old or too easy |
Answer: | for a typically developing 5yr old, too easy. Great game is the Princess Cupcake Party game - lots of difficulty levels. My girls and my boys love it. |

Question: | Can I Use This For Curling |
Answer: | Depends on what kind of curling you're asking about. For weight curling you certainly could use it although it wouldn't had much weight. For curling your hair, I guess if you could find a way to wrap your hair around the cubes and secure them it would sort of work. And for the other curling that looks like you're cleaning floors, I would probably say no, unless you tried using the box as a curling stone. |

It's the family favorite HI HO! CHERRY-O board game! Preschoolers can have so much fun picking fruit to fill their baskets, they don’t even realize they’re practicing math skills, such as counting, addition and subtraction. Players choose from two different play options and take turns picking pretend cherries, blueberries, apples and oranges from their tree. If the spinner lands on a bird or a dog players will have to return cherries to their tree. Landing on a spilled bucket means they have to start the game over! Think of the Hi Ho! Cherry-O board game when it comes to a fruity fun way for kids to practice math skills! Hasbro Gaming and all related terms are trademarks of Hasbro.
Round and round she goes. Hi Ho! Cherry-O is the counting game in which players race to be the first to have 10 cherries in their basket. A spin of the arrow determines your fate. It will instruct you to pick one, two, three, or four cherries from your tree and put 'em in your basket. That is, of course, if you don't land on the bird or the dog, requiring you to take two cherries from your basket and return them to the tree. And try not to land on the spilled bucket or--you guessed it--spill the contents of your basket or you start over. --Alison Golder

User questions & answers
Question: | How long do it take to play this game |
Answer: | Depends whether or not you play with or without putting the puzzle together. My 5 year old granddaughter and I usually play without doing that part and our games last around 15 minutes including setup. She loves it!! |
Question: | Where do you get replacement cherries |
Answer: | No idea. But the game in most stores is only $5, probably cheaper than replacement if you can find them. |
Question: | What is the 9-piece puzzle for |
Answer: | The 9 piece puzzle is the the cooperative version of the game. If you chose to play that version everyone's tree has to be empty before the puzzle is completed or the bird wins and everyone loses. It is in the instructions of the game if you want more details on how to play that version. |
Question: | How is this different from the original? It looks like this one has cherries, blueberries, apples and oranges. Are there other differences |
Answer: | I can't remember the original game perfectly so I can't be sure, but I think another new feature is a choice between competitive vs cooperative play--all players can play against each other, or play as one team. In that case, it is a race against assembling a bird puzzle. If all fruit is off the trees before the bird puzzle is complete, everyone wins. My young kids (ages 6 and 4) like playing that way best. |

If you loved playing the Candy Land board game when you were a child, you can share the experience with your loved ones and start down the "magical" road to sweet surprises! This adorable version of the classic Candy Land game features gingerbread men as movers, colored cards, and fun illustrations that kids love, with different destinations like Cookie Commons and the chunky Chocolate Mountain. Players choose their cards, move their pawns, and let their imaginations soar as they make their way to the castle to win! For 2 to 4 players. Hasbro Gaming and all related terms are trademarks of Hasbro.
"Once upon a time, King Kandy, the Imperial Head Bonbon and Grand Jujube of Candy Land disappeared." Thus begins the magical journey of Milton Bradley's classic Candy Land board game. Captivated by the story of a kidnapped king and eager to help find him, little ones move their gingerbread pawns along a rainbow path and through a land of candy characters, all subjects of King Kandy's realm.
Playing cards thoughtfully designed for non-readers are coded with colorful squares matching the jeweled stepping-stone path or an occasional token matching one of the characters' symbols: draw a blue card, move to the nearest blue stepping-stone; draw a snowflake and earn a visit to Queen Frostine's iceberg. There are occasional pitfalls, too: land on the wrong square and you might be stuck in Molasses Swamp until a red card is drawn. With all these enticing, sugarcoated images (and King Kandy plainly visible at path's end), children can't help but be delighted by Candy Land. It's delicious! Instructions are in both Spanish and English. Candy Land is for two to four players) --Julie Ubben

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these click in with a push or just slide in the holes |
Answer: | Our 21/2 year old is able to place the buttons and remove them without a problem so I would say they slide in |
Question: | Do these actually snap in?? as in you need to push to actually snap into place |
Answer: | Yes, the child must "snap" them into place. The child must push with their finger and they will hear a click when it snaps in. At first, my granddaughter did not do it correctly but learned in a day how to push it hard enough. She was 2 years old. |
Question: | Can you buy extra buttons |
Answer: | Apologies for the delay in responding but I went back to the seller to ask the question and the answer is "No". They would, however, as a previous buyer, have given me 20% off if I wished to purchase another set. My daughter tells me that my grand daughter (3) is enjoying the product; I would suggest buying an inexpensive little pouch/bag in which to keep the buttons. |
Question: | Do the dots make a nice snappy sound when pushed in the holes |
Answer: | Yes, the child hears the sound and it appeared that my 2-year-old granddaughter realized she needed to hear the sound. She would stop pushing when she heard the click. |

Time-Tested Tools
Our learning materials have helped educate three generations of kids, creating life-long learners, and the legacy continues. Digital content, flash cards, workbooks, readers, toys and games—all are crafted through a child’s eyes, while integrating parent and teacher standards.
Writing by Hand Improves Memory
Writing in workbook pages, as opposed to typing on a computer, can help kids focus and learn. Writing by hand fires up specific areas of a child's brain, improving the ability to both remember what he or she learns and to think of new ideas.
Longer Retention
Kids and parents who use our flash cards for practice testing are using one of the most effective learning techniques available. A hundred years of research shows practice testing is highly likely to boost retention.
Reading Has Lifelong Benefits
A love of reading has been proven to have far-reaching benefits for children, emotionally and academically. And children who enjoy reading become confident readers and read more often.
Kids Love Technology
School Zone’s digital content supports children’s learning goals by enhancing problem-solving and critical thinking, as well as reinforcing skills through multisensory activities. It also improves language skills, increases motivation to stay on task, and stimulates curiosity and imagination.
Not Just for Fun
When kids play games together, they learn a healthy sense of competition and experience the joy of winning and empathy for losing. Along the way, they learn collaboration, cooperation, and problem-solving. Creative play stimulates imagination and nurtures emotional well-being.
