Each song is played at regular speed and then slowed down with a split-screen that gives you a close-up look at the picking as well as chording hand. Each of these instructional tapes offers a good solid hour of insight into covering the tunes of their respective subjects. Both are taught by Fred Sokolow, an experienced, low-key instructor with a sense of humor. He chooses songs from varied periods of Simon s and Dylan s careers. For the Simon tape, the selections include "The Boxer," "Mother and Child Reunion," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin Groovy)." For Dylan, Sokolow breaks down tunes including "Blowin in the Wind," "My Back Pages," and "Too Much of Nothing." Each tape offers nine songs in all. Sokolow shows how to pick patterns while singing as well as how to create instrumental solos, and ideas for beginning and finishing each song. The patterns are clearly demonstrated on screen and there is accompanying written tab and notation. About the Actor

Fred Sokolow is an extremely versatile musician. Although he is most often seen playing jazz guitar and singing in Los Angeles night spots, he is just as likely to turn up playing 5 string banjo at bluegrass festivals or rock guitar at studio sessions. You may even spot him playing Resonator Guitar or mandolin on various folk revivals seen on cable and public television. Besides soloing as a jazz guitarist/vocalist, Fred also has fronted his own jazz, bluegrass and rock bands. He has toured with Bobbie Gentry, Jim Stafford and The Limeliters. He has performed in such diverse settings as The Fillmore, The Fairmount Hotel and The Boarding House in San Francisco, The Denver Folklore Center, The Alladin, Sahara and Harrah's in Las Vegas and the Banjo Cafe, Donte's and McCabe's in LA. He has written over 50 instructional books, tapes and videos.
