Answer:	No. You use whatever mascara that you wish. After you have applied your mascara, use this comb to help separate your lashes. It will get rid of any clumping. Each time after you are done, wipe the teeth off on an old washcloth to help keep the teeth clean. If too much gets dried on, it will not work well. I LOVE this thing. Just be careful when you use it as the teeth are very sharp. Don't ever try to use in a car or where someone could bump into you. You don't want this to touch your eyeball.
Question:	Does this lash comb loose its teeth easily? I have had the hardest time with the combs I've used in the past. Worth the money
Answer:	I've been using this comb for about 5 years. I have to replace mine about once a year. I use mine every day and am extremely particular about keeping it clean. I comb my lashes out between each coat, 2-4 coats a day, and I use an eyebrow brush to clean between the teeth on the comb after each use. So I clean mine well over a 1000 times before mine starts to loose any teeth. It is very sturdy and holds up to my heavy use and frequent cleaning. I do clean it gently because if you pull on the metal teeth they do come out. Although, you can put them back in. Highly recommend this comb!

Question:	why do I need four of them
Answer:	Ha! Good point but I put them in my travel case and at home makeup bag and I lost another somehow. So I have used 3 of the four.
Question:	Soak current one in dishdetergent ane warm water. Use thread and/or tiny brush used to clean inbetween teeth. Any other methods used
Answer:	You could do the same with this. I don't allow it to get dirty enough that I can use a tissue to clean up the shiny metal teeth of the comb.

Answer:	they do "lock" in place but I've not had a problem with closing them , this may sound silly, but try using a little more pressure when pushing them closed as the ones I have do require a some pressure to close...or perhaps they are defective ?
