Answer:	I believe the fabric softener is supposed to impede the ability for the cloths to absorb water. Some say not to use fabric softener on towels for the same reason but I have never had it be a problem in the past when I did use it. I now use three wool balls in the dryer in lieu of fabric softener with excellent results.
