User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a Fair Trade product and produced without the abuse of monkeys |
Answer: | According to this article, no monkeys are used in the sourcing of Nutiva coconut oil. "In addition to Essential Trading, the following companies state that their suppliers do not use monkeys: 3 Buddhas, Aunt Patty’s, BetterBody Foods, Carrington Farms, Dr. Bronner’s, Earth Circle Organics, Harmless Harvest, Maison Orphee, Naked Coconuts, Nutiva, Ojio, So Delicious, Silk, and Spectrum Organics." https://www.huffingtonpost.com/nathan-j-winograd/did-an-abused-monkey-pick_b_8341554.html Take it for what it's worth. Even if these companies thought they were sourcing coconuts from ethical sources, who really knows how much they oversee the actual harvest. If the coconut industry is anything like the shrimp industry, there is so much product co-mingled with product from other sources that there's really no way to tell if human trafficking was involved in the shrimp one purchases, despite company assurances. Same with Amazon and how they source certain products from various vendors (some of which are counterfeits), all fulfilled by Amazon, and they all go into the same bin at the distribution centers. |
Question: | is this fractionated coconut oil? I need it to stay solid below 74 degrees |
Answer: | The oil is solid below 74 degrees. |
Question: | Does refined coconut oil have the same antibacterial properties as the unrefined |
Answer: | Both refined and unrefined coconut oil contain the same amount of the antibacterial benefits of the fatty acid, lauric acid. However, some of the benefits of the phytonutrients and the polyphenols (antioxidant properties) are lost during the refining process. |
Question: | For the manufacturer - why is this described as non-gmo? There are no gmo coconuts, so this statement is misleading |
Answer: | Actually.... there ARE GMO coconuts (see article): https://www.just-food.com/news/gmo-coconut-oil-developed-to-boost-exports_id89589.aspx Maybe you should consider doing your own research before lending misleading information and accusing someone else of doing the same. Just some food for thought. |

A Nutritional Powerhouse
Hempseed is considered by leading researchers and medical doctors to be one of the most nutritious food sources on the planet. Shelled hempseed is packed with 33% pure digestible protein and is rich in iron and vitamin E as well as omega-3 and GLA. A recent report funded by the Canadian government states that hemp protein comprises 66% high-quality edistin protein, and that hempseed contains the highest percentage of this of any plant source. Unlike soy, hemp is not genetically modified, and it doesn't contain the anti-nutritional qualities commonly found in soy.
Got Your EFAs today?
Because the human body produces no Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), it is important that EFAs be consumed on a regular basis. It is estimated that more than 90% of Americans take in too little of one of the most important EFAs--omega-3--which is found in flax, walnuts, deep-water fish, and hempseeds. EFAs are the "good fats" that doctors recommend as part of a healthy, balanced diet. The quality of omega-3 is vital, and can be diminished by oxygen, heat, and light. Thus consume the freshest seeds possible and store them in a dark, cold environment such as a refrigerator. Nutiva obtains its seeds exclusively from Canada, and we date all our products. Great nutrition never tasted so good.
- NATURALLY EXTRACTED and NUTRIENT DENSE: Nutiva’s all-natural cold press extraction process yields a pure, light-tasting, nutrient-rich oil containing 63% medium chain triglycerides and 50% lauric acid without the use of dangerous and harmful chemicals, hexane, or heat
- PREMIUM DIET COMPATIBILITY: Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil is an ideal addition to vegetarian, vegan, raw, whole food, paleo, ketogenic, and gluten-free diets
- HEALTH AND BEAUTY: Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil has natural moisturizing and deep conditioning properties, making it an invaluable part of every body care regimen
- COMMITMENT TO QUALITY: Nutiva partners with organic farmers to source the world’s finest fresh, organic virgin coconuts and stringently adheres to USDA certified organic and non-GMO guidelines to deliver superfood that is good for you and good for the planet
- EASY TO USE PACKAGING: Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil is packaged in safe, convenient, BPA-free packaging

Question: | So if we order this, 15-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 2), we're actually getting 30 ounces total for this price |
Answer: | So 15 x 2 = 30! Who knew? |
Question: | are the plastic jars BPA & phlalate free? what is the recycle number on plastic jar? Please answer thank you |
Answer: | I don't find a recycle number. No numbers except on the bar code . The contents are manufactured for Nutiva in Oxford, CA and is a product of the Philippines. The jar bottom has a triangle with a number 2 in the middle, with the word hope underneath. To the left of the triangle and the word 'hope' is the number 4. Under that is what appears to be a letter 'C' back to back with another one. Sorry I can't help you more. |
Question: | I order this coconut oil and the old container says *extra virgin*,now they sent me a new style container & it says *virgin* is it the same |
Answer: | Directly from Nutiva, included on this page: “ Please note that there is NO difference between Virgin and Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil. We previously used the term "extra-virgin" to emphasize our commitment to quality, however, as a leader in coconut oil, Nutiva is committed to complying with global regulations that do not allow the term "extra-virgin" in regard to coconut. When you see the term Virgin on our packaging, rest assured that the product is still the highest quality and has not changed.” Simply complying with global regulations in verbiage, not in product or processing. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have been on a mission to lose 60 pounds so far I have lost 20 does anybody else uses for weight loss or weight management and what are the results |
Answer: | I have lost 35 lbs with adding the Nature's way 100% MCT OIl I put it in my bullet coffee every morning. So I have had great success with adding this product to my eating plan |
Question: | Still waiting for this to arrive and noticed lead warning California state |
Answer: | All of Nature’s Way’s products comply with California Proposition 65 (Prop 65). Prop 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a rule which states that any product containing specific ingredients associated with cancer or birth defects in amounts greater than specified by the state must have a warning label if sold in California. Our products are tested for lead to ensure they meet Prop 65 standards and should not have this warning associated with them. We are working with Amazon to have this error corrected. |
Question: | How is this different than normal jarred coconut oil you buy from like Trader Joe’s |
Answer: | The difference between MCT oil and coconut oil you buy from Trader Joes is the price at $9.95 and MCT oil which is more concentrated can cost $15 to $30 a bottle depending on the brand. Coconut oil has MCTs in it, about 62 to 65 percent and concentrated MCT oil is almost entirely MCTs. Trader Joe's coconut oil is a very good quality and I use it in all my cooking and the MCT Oil I use by itself or in my bulletproof coffee. There are four different kinds of MCTs, which differ depending on the number of carbons there are connected to the fat molecules (this ranges between 6 to 12 carbons long). The MCTs in coconut oil are made up of about 50 percent of one kind (lauric acid), so the fact that coconut oil is mostly just one type of MCT is one reason that some people prefer concentrated MCT oils more. “MCT oils” usually have all four types of MCTs that can be difficult to get from other foods. Coconut oil is one of the best sources of lauric acid as you can see, which many studies have shown has antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral properties. Although about ninety percent of the fats found in coconut oil are saturated, a high percentage is not the very short chain MCTs that have less carbons (lauric acid has 12). Personally, I prefer MCT oil altough I do use the Trader Joes Coconut Oil in all my cooking. Hope this helps. |
Question: | It says "including" C8 & C10. I'd like to know the % of each in the bottle |
Answer: | Agreed with Jeff... according to the provided pictures there would be 1.3g of an unspecified MCT (likely Lauric Acid - C12). Depending on your needs, I'd go with something else that is 100% C8 and C10 -- furthermore, not listing this "ghost" ingredient is very off-putting! |

User questions & answers
Question: | I s this a liquid or creamy texture |
Answer: | Coconut oil's texture will depend on the temperature where you have it. As someone already noted, it is liquid above about 76 degrees, but solid below that. In Chicago mine is solid and white in winter, but clear and liquid in summer. |
Question: | Is this non-hydrogenated |
Answer: | Hi Min7, Coconut oil is naturally a hydrogenated fat so it does not need to go through a hydrogenation process. This is what makes it stable! Hope this helps answer your question, and if you have any other questions you can reach us by responding to this comment thread or by email at [email protected]. |
Question: | Coconut oil is coming up as a great treatment for oral health. Do you brush your teeth before or after a rinse with coco nut oil |
Answer: | Hi Main Line Mama,Oil pulling is an ancient practice in Ayurvedic medicine, shown to naturally accelerate the body's detoxification process. Place 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in the mouth and swish for 20 minutes. Swishing activates enzymes and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. It is recommended to complete this process on an empty stomach, best in the morning. After 20 minutes, spit out the end product in the trash can and brush your teeth following this step. This will rev up your metabolism for the day and promote healthier gums and teeth due to the health-promoting saturated fatty acids found in coconut oil. Keep in mind that refined coconut oil, derived from dried coconut, does not reap the same benefits as unrefined, organic coconut oil. Viva Labs Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is 100% pure, unrefined coconut oil, retaining all of its nutritional properties. Question: | Would this product be useful to help transition African-American hair from relaxed to natural |
Answer: | Hi Seeker,Coconut oil has been used for centuries as an all-natural moisturizer for hair and skin. It can be applied to the ends of the hair as well as the scalp to penetrate the cuticles. You may apply it to the hair daily, or 2-3 times per week as an overnight treatment. Viva Labs is organic, pure, unrefined coconut oil, free from unwanted preservatives and harsh chemicals that normally aggravate sensitive hair and skin, and is suitable for all hair types. Answer: | I have not but you could contact the company for the answer. |
