11 best borages

Borage, also known as Borago officinalis, is an herbaceous plant that is sometimes used in skincare and beauty products, including lotions and moisturizers. Here's what you should know about borage in the context of skincare and personal care:

  1. Botanical Description: Borage is a flowering plant that is native to the Mediterranean region. It is known for its bright blue, star-shaped flowers and bristly leaves. The plant has been used for various purposes, including in traditional herbal medicine.

  2. Borage Oil: Borage oil is extracted from the seeds of the borage plant. It is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is an omega-6 fatty acid. GLA is known for its potential benefits for the skin, as it can help maintain its moisture and elasticity.

  3. Skin Benefits: Borage oil is often included in skincare products due to its potential to soothe and hydrate the skin. It is particularly known for its moisturizing properties, making it a popular ingredient in lotions and moisturizers. Some people use borage oil topically to address issues like dry skin and irritation.

  4. Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Borage oil contains compounds with anti-inflammatory properties, which may help calm irritated skin and reduce redness. This can make it a suitable choice for individuals with sensitive or reactive skin.

  5. Eczema and Dermatitis: Some studies have suggested that the application of borage oil or products containing borage oil may be beneficial for people with conditions like eczema and dermatitis. The anti-inflammatory properties of GLA in borage oil may contribute to these potential benefits.

  6. Safety and Precautions: While borage oil can offer benefits for the skin, it's important to note that some individuals may be allergic to it. Always perform a patch test when using a new skincare product containing borage oil to check for any adverse reactions. Additionally, pregnant or nursing individuals and those with certain medical conditions should consult with a healthcare professional before using products containing borage oil.

In summary, borage, specifically borage oil, is an ingredient that is sometimes incorporated into skincare and personal care products due to its potential benefits for the skin, particularly its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. However, as with any skincare ingredient, it's essential to consider individual skin sensitivities and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or specific skin conditions.

Product description

Borage, also known as starflower, is a mediterranean herb that has been in use for several thousand years. It is generally grown commercially for its medicinal seed oil, but the leaves add a great, healthy addition to a summer salad. The leaves have a distinct cucumber tastes, either fresh or dried. The flowers are edible too. Although considered to be an herb, Borage is often grown in vegetable gardens to attract pollinating insects; It is considered to be a good companion plant for tomatoes, squash and strawberries. I have also noticed that Borage is widely used to flavor pickles in Poland, and is used in sauces in the Rhine region of Germany. Direct seed in a sunny location, cover lightly, and keep moist. Tolerant to virtually any conditions.

User questions & answers

Question: Can these grow in Middle East
Answer: I live in central Wisconsin, which i believe is in zone 4 and these plants grew very well and reproduced on their own the next season. This is a great plant for companion planting.
Question: What is their grow zone? I live in zone 4 and want to make sure they’d survive
Answer: Yes, they are non-gmo. -Mike
Question: Are these non-gmo? i assume that they are, being heirloom but wanted to be sure
Answer: I'm really not sure of the exact weight of the package - I believe it was one ounce so that would be about 28 grams. I found quite a few crushed seeds that might have happened in shipping, however, the seeds are incredibly fertile and I was not disappointed.
Question: How many grams in one package
Answer: Dear, Yes, it supports both under online and offline modes. Regards, Youdao

Question: omega 3,6,9 total 1906mg, is that per pill
Answer: Hi, this comes with 6 dryingplates, 18 bibulous papers and 6 sponges, so, you have to make a "sandwich", with the quantity of papers you need. Over one of the wood board, you have to put one drying plate (it's the one wich is like a cardstock), then, one sheet of bibolous paper (the thin ones), then the flowers, petals or leaves, over them, other sheet of bibloous paper, then one sponge, then a drying plate (cardstock) and repeat as you need, when it's done, put the other Wood board and the hook & loop straps as tight as you can, and leave in a dry place 2 weeks at least until the flowers get dry.
Question: Does this contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids
Answer: Main tent is 14x8, private room is 8 wide by 6 deep

Answer: Yes it says: Electrical cord access Room divider included Gear organizer included Carry bag included 16 tent stakes included, made of steel Measures 14' x 14' Height: 76" 6-Month limited warrant
Question: How big are the pills? I'm looking for a supplement for my 10 year old son who has ADHD. The gummy versions of these have unwanted ingredients
Answer: 76 inches at the peak (about 6'3") so if you're a taller guy you're probably going to duck to get in and not have a lot of head room when standing.

Answer: Yes! I emailed Nordic Naturals directly:"Yes, our Borage Seed oil is cold pressed. No chemical solvents are used during the extraction process and the oil is tested to ensure it does not contain dangerous pyrrolizidine Alkaloids."
Question: Is this hexane free? upa free
Answer: Nothing on the bottle states "pa free". It does say 100% herbicide and pesticide free. However, I did find out that the gelatin is made of cow's hooves which is a little unnerving.

User questions & answers

Question: Do they make a cream..something more emollient than a lotion
Answer: Not sure what aha cleanser is. But I use it after washing face. Have used it daily for well over a decade. Its non-greasy, but a super moisturizer. However it does not perform like the 1% cortisone creams, which I use when dryness shows up as red skin. I use the Shikai Borage for everyday use around my eyes, on forehead and chin, around mouth. These are areas prone to dryness and wrinkles on me. Compared to others in my family, my wrinkles are far less, and my skin is youthful. And I'm in my mid-60's.
Question: Can i use this after an aha cleanser
Answer: I suggest you ask such a science question to the company directly. I can say that I have used the product for over 15 years, daily. Love it. Everyone's skin type is different, have to try it to see if it works for you. I use it on areas that are dry or more subject to wrinkle, and I am very satisfied. Will continue to use it. As far as carcinogenic ingredients is concerned - I do not know for certain whether your statement is true or not - but I do know that many substances used in consumer products would be harmful if used in extremely high quantities, but the quantities in the product are not harmful. If you are concerned, I suggest you verify your statement, then find out what quantity is required for harmful effects. My impression is the company makes a superb, human friendly product. And I have no association with the company, nor do I know anyone there. All of this is just my opinion, take it or leave it.
Question: It’s formulated for irritated skin but it contains Phenoxyethanol known to be a carcinogen that can irritates the skin. Why is that
Answer: The difference is similar to regular Motrin/Tylenol and prescription strength-its much stronger. I like the regular lotion, but the advanced is amazing especially if you are battling skin issues (my daughter and I have eczema and this is the only thing that has worked for us). We live in the humid south and the formula isn't too heavy, it sinks in quickly and treats immediately. It has a very light scent that disappears quickly. Also appearance-wise, the lotion has a pink tint and is thicker than the regular formula. I highly recommend it!
Question: How is the advanced lotion different than the regular lotion
Answer: Yes

Chemistry & Nature

In 1970, Dr. Dennis Sepp, an organic chemist, began exploring natural, ayurvedic ingredients for hair and skincare. Dr.Sepp knew that the natural world offered functional ingredients that were better and safer than conventional chemical ingredients. In his first study, he created a water-soluble extract from shikakai powder—ShiKai shampoo. Now, ShiKai manufactures more than 50 products, sold in premium markets all over the world.

Innovation

ShiKai products offer unique, plant-based solutions. Using ancient ingredients like shikakai and the modern technology of omega-6 oil, ShiKai has forged a new direction in both hair and skincare.

Made with Pride

We formulate our products based on scientific study and rigorous standards. We make our own botanical extracts and produce our products in our state of the art facility in Sonoma County, California. Using time tested formulas and modern technology, we control quality and standards from start to finish.

Quality & Trust

Made from premium ingredients which are selected for their effectiveness and safety and combined with high concentration of botanicals, each ShiKai product is carefully formulated and manufactured—beginning to end—at our facility in Santa Rosa, CA to ensure the highest quality and the best results.

Shikakai: “Fruit for the Hair”

Shikakai, or Acacia Concinna, is a small shrub-like tree, which grows in the warm, dry plains of central India. For centuries the people who have had access to this tree have used its pod-like fruit to clean their hair. At ShiKai, we import this shikakai powder from India and use it as the primary cleansing and sudsing agent in our products. Instead of using it in its raw powdered state however, we make an extract, which preserves the beneficial properties and converts shikakai powder into a water-soluble form. This “ShiKai” extract, as we’ve named it, is used in place of soaps and harsh detergents. Natural!
