Answer:	Its around the width of a red solo cup. So it will fit circular soaps. What I do is keep my soap in a box but I use a spoon to scrape off some soap and I but in the bowl and then I mix with the brush.

It comfortably holds a round cake of shaving soap ( I use Williams shaving soap 1.75 ozs) without a rattle or movement in the cup while making lather with a shaving brush. It is a good fit in the palm of my hand.

Answer:	No, it's not a dumb question, and it's easy. You don't heat the bowl, don't put hot water in it and don't melt the cake/puck in your hand. Just drop the new cake into the bowl. To shave, rinse the brush in hot water and shake out excess. Then brush the top of the cake 8-10 times in a circle which gives lather on a hot brush. Then brush on the later and shave. The hot brush makes hot lather. Rinse out the brush and let dry until the next day. Don't worry about the lather left on the cake, it will dry and become part of the cake again.

Answer:	Yes, it does hold the heat very well if you fill it with HOT water and let your brush soak for awhile. It seems obvious to me that this cup in NOT designed for cake soap...that would require a larger "mug". This cup works best with tube type shaving soap. I use Proraso. I get great thick HOT lather every time.

Answer:	I don't think it's hard to grip at all. My water is probably normal softness, and when shaving the bowl gets all soapy, and no problem. It's not polished like you normally see in marble, the surface is a little rough, and has a well-defined texture. It's also pretty hard so I don't think it'll break easily but haven't tested that. I bought mine because it's deeper than most others, so there's less of a mess outside the bowl. Aside from a little discoloration at the bottom where water seeped into the marble, which is only cosmetic, I'm pretty happy with mine. If I broke mine I'd replace it with the same thing.

You should go for 304 or 304L. 316 is even better than 304 (it is more resistant to chlorides), but is also more expensive. Another commenter said this bowl is magnetic which also points to it being a cheap ferritic grade of steel like 430. The 300 series is NOT magnetic which is one easy way for the average Joe to distinguish them. Again, for this price, I would not expect 304, but 304 bowls can be had here on amazon for a few bucks more. I bought one here off Amazon the other day for about $12.

Answer:	Soap requires better technique to use and typically does not give you the coverage that cream does... i HIGHLY recommend the taylor shaving cream. It is by far the best product ive used. I shave my face with a straight razor and my head with a double edged 1954 gillette safety razor. A dime sized amount of this cream on the brush will allow me to make 3-4 passes on both. It ends up being much cheaper than the canned shaving gel junk. BUY IT ! P.s. kimberly is my wife... lol. Shave on brother !

Answer:	The main advantage of a shave soap over a gel is moisturizing. A shave soap moisturizes your beard hairs making them swell and easier to cut, with less irritation. Gels don't do that, which makes for a more irritating shave. Do this in the shower for extra moisture and heat. Shave soap usually lasts longer as you only need a little to make a lot of lather which is cost effective. When you use a brush to apply the soap you do it vigorously to wake up your beard hairs to make them stand up better, which equates to a closer shave. All-in-all a shave soap will deliver a superior close shave with little irritation.
Question:	Where is this item manufactured
Answer:	This style of shaving is often called, "soap and a brush." With the hard soap bar (actually a round "bar"), you would swirl a wet brush over/across the hard soap to work up some soap into the bristles. Then swirl that over/across your face to work up and cover with a nice thick lather. This product is shaving *cream,* so much softer. With shaving cream you have 3 choices: 1. Use just as you would with hard soap, but use much less as little goes a long way! 2. Dab some into a separate bowl, add just a little hot H2O, work into a lather IN the bowl and then apply. 3. Dab a little into your moistened fingers, work it into a lather and apply with the brush. Bowl is more traditional, but with a dripping wet brush and a good lathering on the face you can skip the bowl if desired.
