| Answer: | The open comb will have "teeth" along the edge vs a solid bar. You can see this if you look down the edge of the blade exposure. This can let the blade get closer while shaving. Neither open or closed is better or worse but just a matter of personal preference. This Parker model is an excellent razor and one of my favorites. |

| Answer: | I don't have the Parker 24c (yet) but the 24/26c, the Merkur 15/41, the RazoRock Old Type OC and the Maggard v2 OC all seem to have similar things said about them on the various shaving forums. Open comb does not necessarily mean aggressive, these are all very EFFICIENT heads that are still on the mild to medium end for aggressiveness. Compared to my Edwin Jagger I find my RazoRock Old Type OC to more easily give a closer shave with less touch up/buffing (and thus it is less likely to cause irritation). Yet, it isn't overly aggressive and as a beginner (I've been DE shaving for about a month and a half) it is still easy to use without worry of cuts or irritation. It is definitely gentler and less aggressive than my Parker 76r with safety bar. I don't use it everyday, but it is ideal after 36-48hrs growth (I usually shave everyday, and I sometimes need a one pass touch up after about 12 hours). I love my open comb so much that I'm looking to get another with similar characteristics (such as the Merkur 15 or 41, the Parker 26c, or this 24c) |

Once, I didn't check the tightness of the knurled end-knob controlling the "wings." When the blade began to feel like I was shaving with broken glass, I knew it was loose. One turn fixed it. I really like the thing and strongly prefer it to those "aerodynamic" contraptions whose expensive stack-blades seem to me to offer uneven quality. You only need one good blade. |
