Answer:	For my nearly 70 year-old eyes, the improved lcd and especially the ev were worth it. I've been shooting an fz200 for a couple of years, really like it. But I'm almost shooting outside, nature photos, and especially while kayaking. LOTS of sun/glare, and the lcd was almost useless. The EV on the 200 is acceptable, but small and sometimes difficult to get right to the eye. The 300's lcd still won't stand up to very bright conditions, but the EV is far better. I also find the top dial control a substantial improvement on the back dial on the 200, which was tricky to handle with the left thumb, which is what it's positioned for. Pushing the back dial was the way to switch back and forth from aperture/shutter control and exposure compensation; the 300 has a separate function button for EC control. I'm very pleased with the improvements, and they were worth the money for me.

If you are NOT looking for travel size, look for the full size Styptic pencils which are as thick as a magic marker. IMHO, expiration dates for the most part are there to make you think you need to purchase a new one which is good business for manufactures.
