Answer:	The answer is that stannous fluoride is the active ingredient that kills plaque bacteria, including at the gumline. Many, many years ago, in the 1960's, when Crest Fluoride toothpaste came out, it had stannous fluoride (the fluoride salt of Tin, SnFl2), which both prevents cavities by strengthening tooth enamel and having an antibacterial effect on plaque bacteria. After a few years, anticavity toothpastes changed the active ingredient to sodium monofluorophosphate or sodium fluoride. They did that because stannous fluoride could cause brown stains on teeth, typically in between them where food particles were lodged when people didn't floss before brushing (which a lot of people don't). The sodium versions of fluoride salts don't cause such staining, but they provide no antibacterial effect. So now Crest Gum Detoxify -- and certain other brands -- have gone back to stannous fluoride to help prevent and sometimes even reverse gum disease since it kills plaque bacteria. You'll note that other antibacterial toothpastes such as Colgate total have sodium monofluroide phosphate to help prevent cavities, and the bacteriostatic ingredient triclosan (which is found in deodorant soap or used to be) to kill and control the multiplication of plaque bacteria after brushing. So read the ingredients in any toothpaste you buy to see what the active ingredients are -- and if it promises to help kill plaque bacteria to help with gum disease, it will either have stannous fluoride which does both things, or it will have sodium monofluorophosphate plus something extra that kills bacteria such as triclosan. Answer:	To reverse a cavity, you will need to use both Xylitol and dilute Fluoride on a regular basis. It will take 6 - 12 months for a cavity to heal itself. Read "Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye" for details (or read the author's blog at www.ultimateoralhealthguide.org). I've reversed 8 cavities so far using this method, one of which was a little through the dentin. To accelerate results, add minerals to your diet (Concentrace, Bone Support, etc.), reduce snacking and sipping to mealtimes only, ensure no cross-infection from significant others and family/friends (no sharing food, protect mouth after kisses with infected mouths, etc.) and I also found the combo of Butter Oil + Fermented Cod Liver oil to aid in faster remineralization (the nutrients enhances the mineral content of your saliva, which is what brings the correct proportion of minerals to your teeth). The Xylitol is key though to eliminate the bacterial component of the cavity infection (and to remineralize the inner part of the tooth), while the fluoride is necessary to heal the outer surface of the tooth. Read that dentists' book!

Answer:	WP-100 is the one with a very strong motor, will last for years, unless you forget and leave it running on an empty tank as i did. So what if it is noisy; it works and will last. By the way, using it at more than 2-3 may cause damage to your gum line. Leaky tank valve, even the new WP-100s have a defective tank valve (it doesn't fall down when the tank is removed, therefore the tank dribbles when removed for refill. This problem remains even with new valve inserts (which i obtained from Waterpik's wonderful service). The fix, although slightly annoying, is to take the handle of your toothbrush and gently press down on the valve during the lift off process. You can then discontinue the toothbrush, and refill and reseat the tank, without dribbles occuring. Just grin and bear it. Also, you will need to purchase replacement angled wands because the tip will become junky and can't be cleaned.

Answer:	Splenda (succralose) is a minor ingredient & would be diluted with saliva and end up being spit out in short time. I send these to our troops and they appreciate them because they are disposable single use and pack in cargo pockets. Have you read the labels on other brands of mouthwash? Saccharin and sodium flouride. They could all use sugar and then you could ask is this stuff trying to clean or rot my teeth. Just rinse your mouth out once you have access to water...how's that?
