10 best mouth rinses

Mouth rinses, also known as mouthwash or oral rinse, are liquid solutions used for various oral care purposes, including oral pain relief and maintaining oral hygiene. They are typically swished or gargled in the mouth and then spit out. Here are some key aspects of mouth rinses related to oral pain relief, oral care, and beauty personal care:

  1. Oral Pain Relief: Some mouth rinses are specifically formulated to provide relief from oral pain and discomfort. These may contain active ingredients like benzocaine or lidocaine, which have numbing properties and can help alleviate pain from conditions such as mouth ulcers, canker sores, and minor gum irritations.

  2. Oral Care: Mouth rinses play a crucial role in oral hygiene. They can help in several ways:

    • Antibacterial: Many mouth rinses contain antibacterial agents like chlorhexidine or cetylpyridinium chloride, which can help reduce the bacteria that cause plaque, gum disease, and bad breath.
    • Fluoride: Some mouth rinses contain fluoride, which strengthens tooth enamel and helps prevent cavities.
    • Antiseptic: Antiseptic mouth rinses can be used to cleanse the mouth after oral surgeries or dental procedures to reduce the risk of infection.
  3. Beauty and Personal Care: Mouth rinses also have beauty and personal care applications:

    • Fresh Breath: Mouth rinses with pleasant flavors can help combat bad breath (halitosis) by killing odor-causing bacteria and leaving a refreshing taste.
    • Whitening: Some mouth rinses are marketed as teeth-whitening solutions. They may contain ingredients like hydrogen peroxide to help remove surface stains and brighten teeth.
  4. Types of Mouth Rinses: There are various types of mouth rinses available, including:

    • Alcohol-Based: These can be effective at killing bacteria but may cause dry mouth and irritation for some individuals.
    • Alcohol-Free: Designed for those sensitive to alcohol, these mouth rinses can still provide antibacterial benefits without the potential side effects of alcohol-based options.
    • Natural or Herbal: Some mouth rinses are made with natural or herbal ingredients, which can be appealing to individuals looking for more organic or gentle options.
  5. Usage: To use mouth rinse effectively, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions. Generally, you should swish the mouthwash in your mouth for 30 seconds to one minute, then spit it out. It's not recommended to swallow mouth rinse.

  6. Consultation with a Dentist: If you have specific oral health concerns or are seeking oral pain relief, it's advisable to consult with a dentist or healthcare professional. They can recommend the most suitable mouth rinse for your needs and ensure it aligns with your oral health goals.

Mouth rinses can be a valuable addition to your oral care routine, but it's important to select the right one for your specific needs and use them as directed for the best results.

Rinse First:

  • Use twice daily
  • Swish for 60 seconds with 10 mL

  • CTx4 Gel 1100 replaces your current toothpaste
  • Brush twice daily with a pea-sized amount

Protective Ingredients:

Elevated pH - Maintaining an elevated or neutral pH balance helps keep your tooth enamel and smile healthy.

Xylitol - The xylitol in the CTx3 Rinse is a naturally occurring, sweet-tasting ingredient found in many types of plants. Research shows that regular use of xylitol-rich products may reduce your risk of dental cavities.

What Makes Us Different?

Do you ever wonder why some people continue to get cavities despite meticulous oral hygiene, whereas others who rarely brush and floss do not? Can a person really be cavity-prone?

An imbalance in your mouth causes cavities, and when dentists drill and fill cavities, they are only treating the result, not the imbalance itself—and the decay returns. For many, it’s a frustrating, reactive approach to oral health, but not surprising. Until recently, dentists were taught that you'd be free of decay if you have good oral hygiene. The problem is that it’s just not that simple.

Break the cycle of decay with CariFree. CariFree's pH elevated products fix the problem at its source. Safe to use every day, our non-abrasive products are highly effective and scientifically proven to prevent cavities.

User questions & answers

Question: how can i cancel closys that is to be delivered every 2 mo
Answer: If after you rinse out your mouth the taste is not bad and I think best not to re-rense with water.. I sometimes "work up some spit" and spit of course,, seems to take out some of the taste.. but like I said just not a bad taste..
Question: Is this product fluoride free
Answer: Yes you can use it in a small spray bottle. However Biotene has a spray that they sell that I have used in the past that is good as well.
Question: Why is there a one time purchase option for the Closys 2 pack but when I click on it it won't work
Answer: A 2016 research study at University of Florida found Biotene Moisturizing Mouth Spray, Oasis, & Thayer's to be damaging to enamel. It may also weaken the cement & composit on veneers, crowns & bonding. Biotene Oral Balance, however is safe. Overall the most damage in the study was from citric acid found in reg & diet soft drinks. Ask your dentist if they can recommend gum or lozenges containing Xylitol, a naturally occurring sugar alcohol that neutralizes bacteria acids. Always keep xylitor away from pets.
Question: What is the difference between the original formula, sensitve & ultra sensitive formulas? Do they all have the same ingredients / effectiveness
Answer: DO NOT RECOMMEND BIOTENE in any flavor: All are cheap, ineffective rinses ineffective for treating 'dry mouth.' If you're looking for the' BIOTENE Original Flavor,' buy SALIVEA Dry Mouth Care by Laclede, Inc (also available on Amazon.com). who made the BIOTENE Original Flavor prior to selling the company to GSK in 2008. A few years later GSK chose to go to a useless product by eliminating BIOTENE Original Flavor to save a few cents by eliminating the 'salivary enzymes.' Apparently, held to a 10-year no-compete agreement, Laclede reentered the market in the last year or so and now makes SALIVEA Dry Mouth Care with salivary enzymes, exactly the same product as the discontinued BIOTENE Original Flavor.

Why Rinse – The Benefits of Mouthwash

Listerine is the next step to ensuring a healthier mouth. Focusing on good oral care habits, and sticking to them, includes regular visits to your dentist, and a daily regimen of brushing, flossing, and rinsing with Listerine. The truth is that brushing reaches 25% of your mouth. Listerine cleans virtually 100%.*

The power of the swish fights bad breath bacteria in your whole mouth, including on your teeth, tongue, and gums. Listerine mouthwash should be used twice a day to reach its deep-clean effectiveness. After all, bad breath germs are in your mouth all day, every day, and rinsing twice a day provides 24-hour gum protection. For Listerine rinse to reach its full powerful potential, use as directed and rinse vigorously for 60 seconds twice daily.

* Listerine data on file (2010).

6 in 1 Benefits

Listerine Total Care Anticavity Mouthwash is a complete mouthwash.* Every member of the family has their very own oral care needs. With six benefits, Listerine Total Care is a simple solution to keep them all taken care of.** Listerine Total Care delivers six benefits to clean your whole mouth, kill bad breath germs, prevent cavities, restore enamel, freshen breath, and strengthen teeth. Listerine Total Care gives your mouth a clean, fresh feeling and taste.

*Among OTC fluoride rinses.

**Adults and children 12 years of age and older.

How to Swish

What happens each time you swish properly? Research shows that antimicrobial Listerine mouthwash kills oral bacteria within 60 seconds for a difference you will notice with continued use. In fact, the bad breath bacteria in saliva samples were killed within 60 seconds of coming into contact with Listerine rinse. Don’t give germs a fighting chance. Swish the full 60 seconds to make sure you’re getting a truly clean mouth.

Cavities: Prevent, Prevent, Prevent.

A cavity is a hole in a tooth that develops as a result of tooth decay over time. Tooth decay is a result of bacterial buildup on the tooth surface. The bacteria use sugars from foods or drinks to produce acid, which over time and left untreated, breaks down the surface of the tooth and creates a cavity. A cavity is permanent damage to the tooth and requires professional treatment to repair it with a filling.

The good news is that cavities are preventable. The best way to prevent a cavity is to maintain a healthy oral care routine, including brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and rinsing twice a day. Good oral care habits keep your mouth clean and healthy; remove plaque, maintain a healthy diet, and see your dentist at least once every six months.

Product description

It is estimated by the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta that nearly 50% of the population of the United States lives with gum disease in some form. Whether you’re noticing sensitive teeth, bleeding gums, or have been diagnosed with gingivitis, TheraBreath Healthy Gums Oral Rinse is an effective solution. Healthy Gums Oral Rinse is a safe and effective treatment to fight bacteria and common symptoms of gum disease, which can also be related to diabetes. Dr. Katz’s Healthy Gums Oral Rinse is periodontist-formulated to help people living with gum disease. TheraBreath Healthy Gums Oral Rinse contains cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), an ingredient approved by the FDA and clinically proven to kill germs linked to gum disease and other periodontal problems, and adds a sweetener, xylitol (but NO saccharin), to neutralize the decay process. CPC attacks the bacteria that lead to gingivitis, which is early stage gum disease that produces red, swollen, and even bleeding gums. It also helps to fight periodontitis, a later stage gum disease. Periodontitis can cause gums to pull away from the teeth, bone loss, and potentially even tooth loss. This 24-hour oral rinse is packed with Dr. Katz’s patented oxygenating compounds and added zinc compounds to fight bad breath germs with no mixing needed. This product is alcohol-free, which reduces irritation and the occurrence of inflamed and sensitive gums, it contains no artificial colors or flavors, and it is certified vegan, kosher, and gluten-free. TheraBreath Healthy Gums 24-hour Oral Rinse formula is also exceptional for treating gum-related problems associated with menopause, pregnancy, and other medical conditions.
