Please teach you child to only use a brush rarely. At my age, brushes - even this style - pulls my hair out by the roots and I don’t have hair to lose. Use please a very wide tooth comb made for wet combing as combs also pull out the hair. A conditioner is more important than shampoo. Switch to a co wash. Use Nutragena clarifying shampoo when you need extra cleaning then a moisturizing conditioner. You can make a safe conditioner DIY at home - look for a recipe with oil. Oil is the friend of curls. Part the hair into 4 sections and secure the sections. Start at the end of the hair on one section. Divide into more sections. Castor oil and coconut oil work well to comb into the hair. If too oily for the curl pattern, wash out with Nutregena then start again. I promise you’ll get better and your child will stop crying. Hair washing and combing is bonding time between parent and child. I have more tips but this is a start for new parents at a loss for what to do with different curl patterns. My story: My mother was old-school licensed beautician as they were called in her day. She would wash and towel dry my hair then take a narrow comb and proceeds to rip my hair out trying to comb it like her 4c hair. Then she would use a liquid oil to smooth my hair. That was the good part. Then she would get a fire heated straightening comb with the petroleum based “grease” and melt that grease and hair together so that it was manageable for her. One night she was tired of our hair battles sand she cut off my hair. I was horrified. I went natural about age 52 and am still learning to love my curls. I was almost age 60 before I discovered that my hair would grow longer if I quit brushing it every day. That story about 100 stroke with a brush is a lie for curly hair. I use this style brush from ends to roots and ONLY with a conditioner or oil on it - never on raw freshly shampooed hair. Well - I have used it in the shower using running water only as a natural detangler but again, the water protects the hair and lets the brush slide through the hair.
