Hair products for braids are specially designed to care for and maintain braided hairstyles. Braids are a versatile and popular protective hairstyle, and using the right products can help keep your hair and scalp healthy while keeping your braids looking their best. Here are some key points about hair products for braids:
Braid Spray or Braid Sheen:
- Braid sprays or sheens are lightweight, non-greasy products designed to moisturize and add shine to braided hair.
- They often contain ingredients like water, oils, and conditioners to hydrate the hair and reduce frizz.
- Braid sprays can be used daily or as needed to refresh your braids and keep them looking neat.
Braid Oil:
- Braid oils are specifically formulated to nourish the scalp and hair when you have braids.
- They typically contain natural oils like jojoba, coconut, or olive oil, which help to prevent dryness and itchiness of the scalp.
- Braid oil can be applied directly to the scalp through the braids to alleviate discomfort and promote scalp health.
Edge Control or Edge Gel:
- Edge control products are used to tame and style the edges of your hair, ensuring a clean and polished look for your braids.
- They come in various holds, so you can choose a level of control that suits your preference.
- Some edge control products also contain nourishing ingredients to protect your edges from breakage.
Shampoo and Conditioner:
- Although your hair is in braids, it's essential to keep your scalp and hair clean.
- Use a sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse your scalp without causing frizz or loosening the braids.
- Follow up with a lightweight, hydrating conditioner to maintain hair health.
Scalp Treatment:
- For individuals prone to dry or itchy scalps with braids, scalp treatments or serums can provide relief.
- Look for products that contain soothing ingredients like aloe vera or tea tree oil.
- Apply the treatment directly to the scalp, massaging it in gently.
Anti-Frizz Products:
- Braided hair can sometimes develop frizz, especially as the style ages.
- Anti-frizz serums or products can help to smooth and control flyaways.
- Apply sparingly to avoid making your hair appear greasy.
Silk or Satin Pillowcases or Bonnets:
- Protect your braids while sleeping by using silk or satin pillowcases or bonnets.
- These materials reduce friction and help maintain the style.
Avoid Heavy Products:
- Avoid using heavy creams, butters, or oils on your braids, as they can lead to build-up and loosen the braids prematurely.
Regular Maintenance:
- Proper care and maintenance of your braids, along with the use of suitable products, can extend the life of your hairstyle.
Using the right hair products for braids can help keep your hair and scalp in excellent condition while preserving the longevity of your braided style. Question: | Have anyone seen any new growth from this product |
Answer: | Yes and vegan as well. You can Google it for confirmation. :) |
Question: | Does it have phthalates? Is the fragrance natural |
Answer: | Contains acrylates - per safecosmetics org: WHAT ARE ACRYLATES? Acrylates are derived from acrylic acid and are commonly found in cosmetic nail preparations. Ethyl acrylate acts as an adhesive to apply artificial nails and eyelashes.[2],[3] Ethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate allow sculptured artificial nails to mold and adhere to the natural nail plate.[4] MORE... Direct contact and inhalation are the main hazardous forms of contact, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that ethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate vapors may block air vents.[5],[6],[7],[8] Proper ventilation in nail salons can reduce ethyl methacrylate levels by 90 percent.[9] A little history: In the early 1970s, methyl methacrylate was the primary monomer, or molecule, used in acrylic nails.[10] In response to consumer complaints of severe nail and skin reactions, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration concluded it was a “poisonous and deleterious substance” and decided to seize and recall nail products containing 100 percent liquid methyl methacrylate in 1974.[11] Ethyl methacrylate became and remains the main ingredient. In most artificial nail products, ethyl methacrylate makes up 90% of the products.[12] It is found in both professional products and home kits.[13],[14] HEALTH CONCERNS: Health concerns include cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, organ system toxicity, cellular and neurological damage and irritation. MORE... Cancer: Government regulations and occupational studies have linked ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate to cancer. The International Agency of Research on Cancer (IARC) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classify ethyl acrylate as a possible human carcinogen.[15],[16] Workers in acrylic sheet manufacturing exposed to both high and low levels of methyl methacrylate were at an increased risk of colorectal cancer.[17]Methyl methacrylate is a widely used adhesive in orthopedic and surgery material and equipment. Chronically exposed orthopedic surgeons had increased cancer mortality and younger age at death compared to less exposed general surgeons.[18] Developmental and reproductive toxicity: Ethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate are linked to malformed skeletons and limbs in the offspring of exposed rats. Higher doses were linked to more malformations.[19] Male rat testosterone levels fluctuated after methyl methacrylate exposure, and the cells of the seminal vesicles (organs involved in semen production) were reduced in size and number.[20],[21] Organ-system toxicity: Organs throughout the body, but especially the respiratory system, are vulnerable to ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate. Methyl methacrylate inhalation is associated with lung disease[22] and damage to nasal passages, liver, and kidneys.[23] Another study found lung damage and disease in rats after inhaling methyl methacrylate for 30 hours a week for 4 weeks.[24] Ethyl acrylate is also toxic to the lungs, liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal system.[25] Cellular and Neurological Damage: All three chemicals damage cells and the genetic information contained in them.[26],[27],[28] They also stimulate cell death in mouse lymphoma cells.[29] Furthermore, ethyl methacrylate interferes with cell communication in the brain and spinal cord of rats.[30] Studies showed that women and men with occupational exposure to methyl methacrylate presented symptoms of generalized and peripheral nerve damage.[31],[32] Irritation: All three chemicals are skin, eye, and respiratory tract irritants. Case studies of workers exposed to ethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate report workplace-induced asthma.[33], [34], [35], [36], [37], [38] Repeated or prolonged contact with all three chemicals can result in skin sensitization, which is the possibility of developing a skin allergy to the chemical. User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a shampoo or oil ? I see people saying oil |
Answer: | Its neither. It has some oil 8n 8t but it is mostly water. They site it as a shampoo, but it is definitely not one. It is a water based scalpeside . |
Question: | Does this product make it more greasy/oily |
Answer: | I found that when I blow dry my hair after rubbing in the oil, it doesn't look greasy. When I put in the oil then let my hair air dry, it does look a bit oily and weighted down. When I put the oil in at night on previously blow dried hair and sleep on it, it looks oily/wet when I first put it on but after sleeping on it, it is absorbed into my hair/scalp and doesn't look greasy in the morning! |
Question: | Does this actually help with dry flaky scalp |
Answer: | It has for me. While not perfect, it does curb about 90% of my issues. It is only bad if I haven't washed my hair in a number of days (winter I tend to wash it less than summer since your skin dries out a lot more. but if one waits too long, then the hair follicles build up with oil and dirt). What I am saying is, there is a balance. If you use this during winter as your main shampoo and don't over wash your scalp, this should work for you. In summer, I would switch off, using it only occasionally as it may over-correct your dry-scalp issue. |
Question: | Is it supposed to be an oil? The one I just got is very watery |
Answer: | It is supposed to be watery, yes. Despite being watery, it works very well. The watery nature allows me to spread it on my head easier. I just finished off my first bottle of this stuff, and this is the only haircare/beauty product I have ever sought out to buy again - I cannot sing its praises enough. You won't be disappointed. |
