Answer:	the knob is a salt sensitivity meter. I wouldn't use water from a water softener. Keep the knob set at 10 for the maximum results, and it works amazing. If for some reason you have too much salt in your water, the light will go red, and the array won't work. You can turn the meter down, but you won't get the same good results when it is set at 10. It is not a major thing. I actually had a little too much salt added last night, but I just emptied it out and started over with the 1/8tsp. of salt, and I was just fine. Also, too much salt could possibly burn your arrays up faster. Hope this helps. I use it twice a week, and everytime that I have used it, I always seem to fall asleep. It is very soothing, and good for the body. You won't be sorry with this machine.
