Answer:	I think they are just for noise. But I do know that at take off and landing, sucking on a pacifier or bottle, especially a baby bottle with a smaller hole nipple than usual can help, similar to chewing gum for adults.

The hearing protecting seem more padded but my daughter was able to still hear us talking to her when we were close.
