If installing a pressure mounted gate at the bottom of your stairs, you could always look into the Qdos Y-Spindles. If this is for a hardware mount gate at the top of stairs, unfortunately it will need to have a 'wrap' area of 16" or less.
Question:	Could a cat fit through the bars? How wide apart are they
Answer:	The Qdos Stair Mounting Kit is designed to fit square banisters up to 4” x 4” (10 x 10 cm), or round banisters up to 5” (12.7 cm) in diameter. If trying to install this between two spindles that have a distance of 5.25", we would prefer to see pictures of the space you are trying to fit before confirming or denying the fit. Answer:	It can swing a full 180* if needed. Our gate is set to open and swing from either direction. Yes it can be flush against the wall that the hinges are on.

Answer:	I don't think so. I send canned fruit(drained) in my son's lunch and it's never leaked, even after washing in the top rack of the dishwasher

Answer:	These are easy to store. The ones without the dividers can stack up (within each other) but the ones with the dividers don’t.

Answer:	Yes My wife and I have-- and it works great. We used it between our kitchen and our laundry room to keep our dog out of the laundry room so he couldn't chew up our clothes--It is easy to install and easy to open, turns good on the hingesand easy to adjust if you follow the directions

Answer:	It does lay flatish against the wall. The hinge is a post pivot so it lays as flat as the hinge sticks out. Hinge is about an inch total and that is the max the whole thing encroaches into the walkway.

Answer:	You might have an issue with the latching side fitting properly into the lock mechanism. The gate is must sit fairly straight into the lock mounted onto the wall. 6 inches might be too much of an angle.

Answer:	No, you need an additional part that squares off the roundness of the banister.

Answer:	This kit should work for most gates. It simply provides a flat mounting surface to be used on a round post / ballister without damaging the post or mounting directly to it.
Question:	Would it be sufficiently narrow to fit a doorway opening of just 26 inches
Answer:	It only has one adapter for a round post. So it can fit a square bottom, round top type post, or vice versa. But not an entirely round post. But, the kit has a parts list with prices and contact info so you can always buy them separately if needed.
Question:	I need a gate that is 49 inches long...does this model come with the extensions, or do I have to by them as well
Answer:	It doesn't actually screw into the wood or anything so if it is of a similar dimension as the wood bannister it should work perfectly. If it is not square and of the same dimensions you should still be able to get it to work with a little ingenuity by adding materials that would allow it to fit such as padding but you would need to make sure it was stable up against the bannister itself as it is a point of stability for the whole gate.If it is a highly unusual style of bannister I can see it being more and more unlikey to be unable to work. You could always set up a temporary piece of wood the appropriate dimensions attached to your metal bannister but at that point you may as well get a sturdier screw in gate.You should be able to visualize how likely it is to work by looking at the picture.

Question:	Could this gate be used for outdoors
Answer:	To answer Anonymous re outdoor use: I bought this gate (and also a slightly different North States gate as well, in a brown metal finish) to use in place of a screen door in my rental in order to let my cat see outside and get some fresh air. I have them both installed in the same door space (one lower, one upper) . The white one has been up about 2 months and the brown one about 9 months---and after a few months, both started to get slight rust stains at the bottom ledge where the slats are welded in. However, I haven't seen the older brown gate's rust get that much worse from month 3 to now (month 9), so I'm hoping that it won't turn into structural damage.The space they're in is slightly protected but does get afternoon sun, damp winds, and rain (though not much rain in this drought year)---I live in the SF Bay Area, in the cooler coastal part of the bay so there's a fair amount of humidity but no snow, sleet, etc. If I could go back in time I'd probably spray them with some kind of sealer before putting them up, but as it is I'll probably leave them up until I move again, and then perhaps recoat with a weather-resistant spray paint when I take them down (not that they're that hard to take down, but...I'm not that motivated to do it now!).If you're considering them for outdoor use, I'd give it a try but be aware that they aren't made for it, and will probably have issues (mine are still cosmetic at this point) sooner or later, depending on your climate.
Question:	Is the latch complicated enough that my toddler won't figure it out
Answer:	The latch for North States super gate is absolutely complicated enough so your toddler won't figure it out! You have to pull down the latch lock/catch while lifting the gate up at the same time to swing it open. A toddler will not be able to do this, which after using the gate for a week, I trust the safety and easy use of the gate!
Question:	Can a cat squeeze through the spacing of the bars, or could this work as a cat barrier
Answer:	No this does not work as a cat barrier. I have a very similar gate that works fine for the cat I'm trying to contain. But I have to go much higher as she can easily jump standard height. Even after I put anti-cat sticky tape on top rung she would climb it as evidenced by bits of fur on the tape. But that one worked. As I was installing this one with Mrs Sapphire inspecting, she waited till I was working on the second level and then just stepped through. After I sighed and stopped Mrs Sapphire from chasing Mrs April I got back measured. The bars on this gate are on 3 inch centers, the bars on the prior gate were 2.75 inch centers. The 2.75inch centers seem sufficient to deter 1year old energetic Mrs Sapphire, The 3 inch centers don't even slow her down.
Question:	Is the metal in the gate magnetic? I want to put a magnet on the wall to keep it open when needed
Answer:	Top and bottom rail are magnetic. My gate does not stay perfectly flush against the wall. It will stay open however, in either direction.

Question:	Once the hardware is mounted to the walls, how hard is it to remove the panels? We need a fence that can be up and down at various times
Answer:	Not very easy if you want to remove it completely because it's screwed into the walls (my setup). Continuously unscrewing and screwing it back in will lead to the holes wallowing out. You do have the option of removing everything but the two panels attached to the wall. The mechanism(s) on the panels that allow them to pivot can be completely removed allowing you to remove the gate portion. It's not ideal but it's probably better than ruining your walls by screwing and unscrewing the brackets. Depending on what you are mounting the gate to, you could probably put some permanent mounts in place in place allowing for easy removal on a regular basis.
Question:	Can the door on the gate be installed on either end or must it only be in the middle
Answer:	No the door is in the middle.

The Auto Close ConfigureGateTM provides maximum safety for use in any extra wide or odd shaped area. All joints rotate; setting individual sections to the ideal angle, and then easily lock in place for a secure attachment. The unique handle design on the extra wide door applies Magnet-Lock Technology, a dual magnet design that automatically draws the door closed and guarantees it locks each and every time! The ConfigureGate also has a hold open feature, that suspends the auto close function until the door is pushed closed. The original 3 piece ConfigureGate will fit an 86” opening. An unlimited number of additional 9” and 24” sections can be added to fit any desired length or to make a freestanding enclosure. Additional sections sold separately.

Answer:	It's a roll up cloth gate, so as long as the mounts are vertical, it can swing in any direction to connect
Question:	Can you re-configure gate so door is at end and not the middle
Answer:	Could be used at top or bottom.

The KidCo Angle Mount Safeway is THE gate for all top of stairs applications, including walls or staircase balusters that do not line up, but can also be used in hallways or as a room divider. As a hardware mounted gate, it provides maximum safety at the top of stairs and in high traffic doorways because there is no bottom threshold to potentially trip over as found on pressure mount gates. Optional 10” extensions are available for larger openings up to 63”.
