Answer:	no, the middle doesn't do anything. the sides recline. if you want one with console and cupholders in middle, the matching recliner/glider chair that goes with this has that. I have both in my house.

Answer:	No, the glider does not have a locking mechanism. I did buy this for my wife and she currently uses it. She said with the stool having the foldout stool, when she is nursing and does not want to rock she uses that stool to not rock and it works very well. The only downside that she could find for not having a locking mechanism is she thinks it would be nice to have it to help with getting out of the chair.

Answer:	It doesn't, but when I was nursing my son when he was a newborn it wasn't hard to stand up. It does not rock back too far that you'll lose balance or anything like that.
