What is OBD-II?

On-board diagnostics (OBD) is an automotive term referring to a vehicle's self-diagnostic and reporting capability. Vehicles produced after 1996 use OBD-II, which is a standardized system that simplifies the process a whole lot. These vehicles all use a common diagnostic connector and a set of universal trouble codes. Though only emission-related codes and data are required to be transmitted through it according to U.S. legislation, most manufacturers have made the OBD-II Data Link Connector the main connector in the vehicle through which all systems are diagnosed and reprogrammed.

At the most basic level, the check engine light indicates that some sensor, somewhere in your engine, exhaust, or transmission, has provided unexpected data to computer. That could indicate a problem with the system the sensor is responsible for monitoring, a bad sensor, or even a wiring issue.

Why I can't erase the fault code?

Once the monitors are reset, the MIL will either remain out because the DTC was corrected by the proper repair, or it will illuminate because it has again detected the problem.

On Windows Phone 8 only a few OBD2 app are available. OBDAutoDoctor is free but get only some information from the car. I just found how to unlock the pro version...It's a in-app purchase...click "..." at the bottom of the app to upgrade. The Pro version is available for $7.99.

Answer:	I can confirm that this adapter WILL read (I haven't tried to clear yet) ABS codes on Ford (2001 Ranger 4.0L), using FordSysFree or MotorDataOBD Free (both Android). ABS codes are in the Cxxxx range. Mine picked up, correctly, C0034 - Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor Failure. While other adapters may be able to read these codes with other Android Apps, this ELM327 BAFX adapter does capture ABS codes for Ford. That is the only one I can confirm. Yes, FORScan for PC should also pick up these codes with this adapter. I have not tested Torque PRO, but I don't believe it will read ABS codes with this adapter.

Will it read ABS/ airbag codes?

Sorry, NT301 obdii scanner is able to read and clear check engine information which is part of OBDII system, but it cannot work on non-OBDII systems(ABS/airbag/oil service light,ect.). While FOXWELL NT630 Plus can reset airbag/abs service light, FOXWELL NT614 Elite support transmission and can reset oil service light and EPB, and FOXWELL NT624 Elite can do a full-system diagnostics.

On-Board Monitor Test

Troubleshooter functions: These give you a set of recommended fixes for problems detected by the scanner. This feature is tricky to score, since the advice given is only valuable if the diagnosis is precise enough to pinpoint a specific problem.

Evap test: This is a specific mode 8 command that tells your car to start a test of the “evaporative emission control system” (mechanics call it “evap” for short) that prevents fuel from evaporating out of your tank and contributing to smog. Triggering this test won’t fix anything by itself, but once you do fix a problem with the fuel system it’s nice to be able to manually trigger a test. Answer:	No, it doesn't. I've owned Fixd since it came out; use it on three vehicles and have never been asked to pay for error code information. The error codes come with plain English explanations; in addition, Fixd tells you what level of seriousness the error code implies.
Question:	Can Fixd clear trouble codes and reset the light

Answer:	No. Without the subscription you can only read and turn off your check engine light that's it. I don't know what turning off your check engine light is suppose to do for you because the problem is still there until you get it fixed. Paying a monthly or yearly subscription is insane. Remember this is only a Bluetooth interface between your car and your phone. You can always download another app from the app store, that's what I did. I downloaded an app called car scanner ELM OBD2 and it works just great and it's completely free. There are a lot to choose from at the app store. When you're trying to get it connected it will ask you for some kind of password or something which normally is either 0000 or 1234, I forgot which one of those I used.

Live Data Stream and Freeze Frame Data

Live data stream can show certain vehicle elements in real-time to monitor your vehicle status, such as engine RPM, speed, coolant temperature, voltage and so on. Freeze frame data can be either a single record of a certain set of operating conditions. It's a snapshot of whatever is wrong with your vehicle to help you fix your vehicle in time.

EVAP Test

The EVAP test function lets you initiate a leak test for the vehicle's EVAP system. The OBD2 diagnostic tool does not perform the leak test, but signals to the vehicle's onboard computer to initiate the test. Before using the system test function, refer to the vehicle's service repair manual to determine the procedures necessary to stop the test.

On-boarding Monitoring and O2 Sensor

1. Why the Vehicle Linking Error?

Answer: Please verify that the ignition is ON. Check if the scan tool's connector is securely connected to the vehicle's DLC. Turn the engine off and wait for about 10 seconds and turn the engine back on and continue the test. Please make sure the control module is not damaged. Please update the latest software from ANCEL website.

2. Why does the tool not respond after it is inserted?

Answer: Connect it to the computer and check if the scanner is damaged. Check if the scan tool's connector is securely connected to the vehicle's DLC. Check if the DLC pins are bent or broken. Clean the DLC pins if necessary. Check vehicle battery to make sure it is still good with at least 8.0 volts.

3. Why the Scanner stop scanning?

In rare cases, the scanner might suddenly freeze. If the scan tool freezes, then an exception occurs or the vehicle's ECU is too slow to respond to requests.

Answer: Unplug the scanner, turn off the engine, wait for about 10 seconds, reinsert the scanner, restart the engine and continue the test.

4. Why would I want an OBDII scanner? After all, I can’t fix my car myself.

Answer: Having an OBDII scanner at home is helpful even for those who have no experience as a mechanic. By running the scanner, you can find error codes that give you an idea what’s wrong with the vehicle. You can then make an informed decision about whether the car needs to be taken to a mechanic immediately or if the problem can wait. Additionally, you’ll know whether the repair shop is treating you fairly regarding proposed repairs.

Answer:	The Maxiscan MS300 is also an Autel product. It is a legacy product that has been superseded by the Autel AutoLink AL301¹. As is customary for these entry-level devices, it only reads / reports the generic OBD II codes. To move up to manufacturer specific codes one must move up to the Autel AutoLink AL319². Keep in mind that not ALL manufacturer specific codes are possible to read / report on. Answer:	Yes.It has an I/M Readiness mode that is able to show you the details of the readiness of each major emission monitor. There is even a button on the device that can select this directly without having to navigate through the menus.There is also a lamp on the device that indicates if any emission monitor is not ready.It is my understanding that the requirements for I/M readiness for each vehicle may differ from state to state.I had a problem with an air monitor coming ready after I identified, resolved, and cleared the underlying code. It took miles of specific type of driving to clear this monitor status (which cannot be cleared by the device.)When I returned to the inspection station I was informed that all monitors are not required to be ready to pass New York state inspection, and that my extra driving for this situation was unnecessary.
