Question: | Is there a way I could use this to fill a bigger (4.7 gallon) air tank |
Answer: | The one I had only last one use and that was i, don’t buy it! |
Question: | Is the fuse for this unit easily replaceable? I noticed in other Viair products there was a fuse about midway down the power cord, is this the same |
Answer: | This air compressor is not equipped for ac current. |
Question: | Viair's website says it has a 16 ft air hose, Amazon says 12 ft. which is it |
Answer: | On the outside of the box it states “ made in China “. I was amazed because all documents were in English and well written with clear and precise wording and clear picture diagrams of all parts. This is very unusual! The booklet was written in letters you did not have to magnify to read. I needed a portable air supply for off road driving where I can deflate my tires and then re-inflate the tires. I had a picture of the box but they gave me no way to attach the photo, sorry! |
Question: | What do you use an air compressor for |
Answer: | Miele uses 36mm hose/attachments. They do make adapters. With small inexpensive adapter it works with our Miele and should work with yours. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My compressor turns on but doesn’t generate any pressure after connecting the hose. Any suggestions |
Answer: | If it makes a rattling sound then the piston and cylinder wall went bad. You can see the piston and cylinder wall when you will open this compressor. There may be something else wrong but if compressor is not building any pressure than most likely piston and cylinder wall are scratched up. |
Question: | What is the hose connection size on this? Is it tour normal 1/4” like on a shop air compressor |
Answer: | Yess they are! http://www.viaircorp.com/air-hoses/blackextensionhose |
Question: | Can this unit be used with a normal electric outlet or do I need to buy an ac/dc convertor when I want to use it in the garage without a battery |
Answer: | This unit is strictly a 12 volt DC powered compressor. If you wish to use this on house current, you will need to use a 12 volt DC power supply which could handle the required amperage. I would suggest a small car or lawn mower battery of at least 100 ampere capacity. Put a trickle charger on it and you would good to go. Most of these battery powered compressors will draw considerable current during operation and they will get hot so be sure to take care when operating and keep the compressor clear of any combustible items. |
Question: | Must you continuously hold the lever on the inflation gun to inflate a tire? Seems like that would be very tiresome to do anything but add a few lbs |
Answer: | It doesn’t take that long to fill em. I’d rather hold the chuck in one hand and and a beer in the other than get distracted and forget it. The original filler clip fell off the stem a lot and made it a 2 hand job so I got another one at Home Depot for 20 bucks. I carry regular chucks and lots of other spare parts like valve stems and covers. When I air down I pull the stems right out. When I’m filling I have a small fold up stool to sit on (or my cooler)and a digital gauge. I always have extra valve covers too. Most of the stuff Fits in a pill bottle. I carry an extra 25’ hose in case. Happy trails. |

Heavy Duty Compressors for Tire Inflation
VIAIR's heavy duty portable tire inflators can be used on any vehicle with a 12v battery source and are designed for tires ranging from 33" to 42" diameter.
These compressors are suitable for both on-road and off-road vehicles.
VIAIR’s Automatic Tire Inflatiors make tire filling simple! While most portable air compressors must be turned off between tire fills and checking tire pressure, the Automatic compressors only operate while the trigger on the inflation gun is pulled. This will certainly save you much needed time, making the overall process of filling your tires seem effortless.
For those in the off-road segment, airing down tires allows for better traction while off-roading. Once your tires need to get back to their normal pressures, you simply hook the compressor up to your battery, and fill them to the recommended on-road pressure your vehicle suggests.
For those in the on-road segment, proper tire inflation is very important because it helps keep your tires lasting longer, it's better for gas mileage, and overall makes for a better ride while keeping you safe on the road.

User questions & answers
Question: | can I hook this compressor up to the RV battery |
Answer: | Maybe. It will depend on if your RV battery is the right voltage. For example, mine are 6v whereas I believe the Viair requires 12v. Since I returned my Viair I do not have the instructions anymore. |
Question: | Can I use this compressor to check air pressure without being plugged in or connected to the battery. Thanks |
Answer: | Viair 40047 need to with being plugged in or connected to the battery. Please review the factory web link below for Viair 40047:http://www.viaircorp.com/400P-rv-auto.htmlThank youBest Regards,GoAiring Customer Service |
Question: | Can you run an impact to crack a couple of lug nuts...let it run a little...repeat |
Answer: | Hello,Unfortunately I dont think you will be able to remove any lug nuts without the use of a tank since the volume that air tools require is pretty high and much more than the compressor alone can handle. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks,VIAIR Corp. |
Question: | What's the difference, besides price, between the 400P and 400PA |
Answer: | I've had mine for a few years now so I'm not sure but I can say a few things about it. First it is the best portable compressor you can buy. It will fill a 22 inch rv tire in under 5 minutes and reach every tire on a 42 foot dp easily. I believe at the time I bought mine the difference between the PA and the P was a better pump motor and more accessories. The PA came with the truck tire adapter so you can read and fill inner duals tires, an extra air line for a total of 60 feet, and a large analog gauge to easily read tire pressure. I would highly recommend it. I've had mine for a few years and it still looks and works like it was new. Hope this helps you. |

RV Portable Compressors for Tire Inflation
Our RV Automatic portable air compressors will inflate tire sizes up to 275/80/22.5 tires to a max of 150PSI with ease. While these units are intended for RV use, they can also be used for virtually any tire since they come with accessories for many different inflation needs.
VIAIR’s Automatic tire inflators make tire filling simple! While most portable air compressors must be turned off between tire fills and checking tire pressure, the compressors only operate while the trigger on the inflation gun is pulled. This will certainly save you much needed time, making the overall process of filling your tires seem effortless.
60 Ft. Coil Hose
These compressors come with 30 ft coil hoses for a total length of 60 feet which should be enough length for any size motor home, RV, or trailer.
Special Tire Attachments
The RV tire inflators include a 45 degree chuck and a 90 degree twist on chuck for easy access to rear dually tires where it is hard to get to the inner tire's valve stem. They also come with a gas station style inflation gun with 160psi gauge.
Automatic Shut Off Function
Portable compressors with automatic shutoff come into play when moving from tire to tire, and when checking tire pressure in the middle of a tire fill. A typical portable compressor must be turned off between tire fills, and anytime you want to check tire pressure. If you aren’t near the compressor, this can turn into running laps back and forth to the portable compressor to turn the unit on and off. Automatic portables do not work in this fashion and will save you time & effort to get tires inflated.

User questions & answers
Question: | I need to 'top off' my rv tires up to 125 psi. from anyone with experience... will this compressor work? if you don't know, please don't answer |
Answer: | Hello, We recommend the 400P-Auto or 400P-RV since the 300P's gauge will only show up to 100psi. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks, Viair Corp. |
Question: | Can the psi be controlled to a constant 40psi in order to blow out RV water lines for winterization |
Answer: | With an external regulator, yes. Google RV Geeks Winterizing and go to t=40 seconds to see their solution when using a 150 PSI Viair compressor to blow out their RV water lines. (Sorry, Amazon won't let me post the link here). |
Question: | does the hose it comes with attach to the tire either screw on or other |
Answer: | The hose attaches to the tire stem like any other pump such as a bicycle pump. You push the end over the tire valve and push the lever down to lock it on the stem. |
Question: | Does the hose use a proprietary fitting (connecting from the compressor to the hose) or can I use a standard air hose w/ this compressor |
Answer: | The quick disconnect on the 300P compressor appears to be a standard fitting. Not having one handy, I called Viaair (very quick to get them on the phone, kudos!) and their tech support advised that while not all of their portable compressors take standard quick disconnects, the 300P uses a standard "industrial" style quick disconnect that should fit most air hoses used for air tools and tire inflators. They actually recommend doing this if the 300P will be used in freezing, or colder, temperatures, since the included coiled air hose would be too stiff and brittle. |

Question: | Viair website shows part number for this item as 45057 and this listing show the part number as 45053. which is it |
Answer: | This unit is rated for 0.97 CFM @ 90 PSI. |
Question: | What is the cfm output at 90psi |
Answer: | Mine fits in a Cabela's plastic .50 cal ammo can. |
Question: | Would this pump and hoses fit in a 50cal ammo can |
Answer: | There are two different models.....400P-RV runs at 33% duty cycle (The 400P-RV can only run continuously at 100 psi for 20 mins before needing to cool down.) The 450P-RV has a duty cycle of 100% (The 450P-RV is a slower filling compressor, due to the lower CFM, but it can be run continuously at 100 psi for up to an hour before needing to cool down.) |
Question: | I am totally confused ... Is this product a 33% duty cycle or 100%? Why does it list both specsm |
Answer: | I used the size smaller and it worked well. This one would blow out a mile pipeline. |

Question: | How durable is the clip-on chuck? Is it made out of durable plastic |
Answer: | It's a matter of perference. I prefer the press-on type for airing up my tires. Screw-on is less convenient and slower, but if you have an application where you want it to stay connected (like air-ride tank in your trunk), screw-on may be the better way to go. |

Product description
Viair 90P Portable Compressor is a small but powerful portable compressor kit capable of inflating up to 31 inch tires by simply clamping the power leads to the battery terminal, connecting the lever style tire chuck to the tire valve stem and turning the unit on. Tire pressure can be monitored using the gauge mounted on top of the unit. Just turn off the unit to take an accurate pressure reading since air flow into the tire will show an inaccurate pressure reading. Has a 15 percent duty cycle, 120 PSI maximum working pressure compressor.
- 12 VOLT - 120 PSI Maximum Working Pressure.
- 1.21CFM Free Flow @ 0 PSI
- Powered direct to battery via alligator clamps and a 12-foot power cable with 30-amp inline fuse.
- Deluxe storage and carry bag included. Unit also has a 5ft air hose attached.
- This portable air compressor is a great choice for daily driven sedans or SUVs. Can also be used for motorcycles or ATVs.
User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone tried to use their portable jump-starter to operate this compressor so as to move the power source closer to the tire |
Answer: | If we were talking flat to full, 35's might be pushing it.However, if all you're doing is dropping and adding a few pounds for terrain, like you say, I'd be pretty confident it could handle it. I've done 0 to full on a 31 in just a few minutes, so it's got some guts. Just don't run it continuously for more than 10 minutes. |
Question: | I have 35" tires on my truck. Mostly concerned with when airing down and up when driving on and off sand. Will this handle these tires |
Answer: | This particular model has alligator clamps that attach to car battery terminals. As far as I know, that's the only way you can use it. However, there is/are at least one other model that can be plugged into a regular electrical receptacle. I don't think you can get one that does both. But I bought this one because it puts out more pressure coming from the battery. And will always have power if you need it when with the car. Somewhere else, you might not have electrical access. |
Question: | Is there a way an AC adapter can be used for home/garage applications |
Answer: | This model has large clips to attach directly to the car battery (or any 12 Vdc Battery available). Going through the cigarette lighter plug might blow the fuse in your car since they are usually setup up for only 15 Amps. |
Question: | Can it be plugged into the cigarette lighter/power source of the car to charge |
Answer: | I have't tested this idea, but I like it, if necessary, (I hadn't thought of it myself) and if you keep the polarity between the cables matched correctly, it should work. The booster cables are heavy duty enough to function essentially as an extension cable, which is what it seems like you are trying to achieve. There is a limit due to length and thickness of cabling, but I do not think it would be reached in this case. Write back and tell us how it works in reality. |
