Question:	Can this be mounted on a flat roof? What is distance to the bottom of vent opening? I would like to use with foam roof
Answer:	No. It will only work on a pitched roof. They do make one for a flat roof. Ask at any building supply place.
Question:	Is it galvanized steel (painted black) as stated in the description, or is it steel that is painted black
Answer:	If it's galvanized as the manufacturer states, it's a poor grade. I am skeptical about the "powder coat" claim too. Mine has serious, shingle-staining surface rust in less than 3 years of exposure. True powder coat should last longer than that, and even if it flakes off the supposed "galvanized" metal shouldn't rust. I'd steer clear of this item, it won't last the life of the roof.
Question:	I understand that the damper slams up and down in the wind but other 4" galvanized vents have solved that problem.Anybody know which ones
Answer:	I have 2 of these installed on my roof for the bathroom exhaust fans. Neither of the units I have have ever had the damper slam up and down in the wind. If this happens it's because they are installed at an improper angle or not secured correctly.
Question:	How high does this stick up above the roof plane? It looks much taller than the Broan 634m

Answer:	Not likely, the bearing only works if it's perfectly level. There's some articulation in the mount to keep it level, but definitely not 90 deg.

Answer:	The vent comes with instructions showing how to set the correct pitch for your roof style. This is not only for a flat roof installation.

Answer:	That would be difficult as these things r constantly spinning. What I did was put a fine wire mesh in the attic under the hole that was cut to prevent wasps from entering. Stapled it and have had no issues.

Installation Instructions

To determine roof pitch, place gauge on peak of roof as shown. Position straight edge as shown. Read roof pitch from printed gauge parallel to bottom of straight edge.

Align roof pitch number on elbow with the indicator line on the base flashing. Place 3 screws through holes that line up with predrilled holes in base.

Locate base opening between rafters and mark hole to be cut. Locate rafters by tapping roof. Cut hole as marked. Seal around entire perimeter of hole with roofing cement.

Slide top half of flashing under shingles. Secure with nails at top, sides and bottom. Rotate top of elbow to level position by turning counter clockwise. Place locking clamp across seam and tighten as shown with included screw.

Seal the adjusting seam and the base/elbow connection seam on inside with roofing cement. Seal locking clamp holes and all exposed nails with roofing cement. Position the Whirlybird turbine head on the base. Line up the predrilled holes in the brackets and elbow and fasten with sheet metal screws.

Question:	Can I purchase only the metal duct connector
Answer:	Sorry, I misread your question a few minutes ago. It is the connector, not the tubing you are asking about. I still do not know of any single-item availability from the kit, although you might have luck contacting Broan and asking. If you mean the clamp, search for a 4 inch clamp from hose clamp sellers. They should be readily available in the HVAC world, and used with clothes dryers. If you mean the actual 4 inch diameter sheet metal extension under the hood that the hose connects to, your best bet is probably to take it to a sheet metal shop and have them install one. You may, also, rig one up by attaching a piece of 4 inch cylinder using L-brackets and screws to hold the cylinder in place. Be sure to seal the interface with a long-lasting sealant, such as silicone caulking.

Answer:	If you use it regularly the warm house air will melt any snow. The flap is protected by the top so even if covered the warm air would escape and melt the snow.

Answer:	I used one for my dryer venting through the roof and one for my bathroom fan vent. It is designed to keep the rain out and of course animals. This particular one is the "vent cap only", you really need to buy the same cap with the vent pipe or you will wind up having to buy the vent cap separately.
Question:	Can the damper get frozen shut in the winter
Answer:	It's possible, but not too likely. And even if it does, when the bath fan is turned on there will probably be enough air leakage that it would thaw the flap in a minute or two.
Question:	I have a 12 in wide metal roof and I need to put a vent to vent out heat from the roof . Would the brown 636 work to do this
Answer:	It could probably be made to work, but that's not what this vent cap was intended for. It has a flap in it that is normally closed, that would have to be removed. (This vent cap is normally used for a bathroom vent fan that will push the flap open when the fan is running.) Depending upon the style of metal roof you have, it may be difficult to get this vent cap sealed properly. This one is designed to have its upper flashing edge under shingles. If your "12 in wide metal" is in horizontal rows, that may work. Also, this vent cap is significantly smaller than what it normally used for roof vents. It will probably take three times as many of these as regular roof vents, to vent a given area of roof. In short, yes it probably could be used for a roof vent, but it would not be ideal.

Answer:	No screws needed, you just shove it down into the stove pipe and it has a rubber seal to keep it secure and in place.

Answer:	All dependent on what you are attaching it to. I used this to provide cover for a vent pipe on my roof and attached it to the vent pipe with sheet metal screws.

Answer:	Cold in upstate New York too. Only put it on shed this year but seems flexible enough to last. I also like the ventilation feature

Answer:	Probably not. This is designed for sheds and the like as it is vented.
Question:	What material is the light made of
Answer:	It is made out of plastic. Adds a lot of light to the shed in daytime.
Question:	The 19" x 18"...is that the measurement from the outside lips that get secured to the shed or the diam. of the actual skylight
Answer:	The 19" x 18" is to the outside lips used for mounting under the shingles. The top part of the light is 12" X 12". The hole in my shed that the light goes over is 9" x 9". I just replaced one of these due to a hail storm. Note the top part is removable, if you are replacing an existing one you may be able to just replace the top part.

Answer:	This is for a standard 14 x14 vent opening. I don’t think this works for 10 x 10.
