User questions & answers

Question: We often get winds of more than 20 MPH. our average is 8 MPH. will it last at all
Answer: Hi James we get a lot of wind here to in west virgina we live on top of ridge. Its a big antenna and catches a lot of wind but so far its done great. One thing I suggest is using two inch mast pipe thu. I used inch and quarter and the wind bent it some but stayed up. I'm changing mine to two inch in spring. I live 50 100 miles to stations and I regularly get 30 to 37 channels. FREE You SHOULD INJOY IT
Question: Can I run this to my old cable box outside my house that splits and is wired to all my rooms in my house so all TVs will have reception
Answer: Assuming that the cable box you are speaking of is simply an RF Splitter that connects a single input (i.e. from cable company) to multiple TVs, you should be able to accomplish this. Make sure that the existing cable is in working order beforehand, or it could seriously degrade your quality of reception. As long as you have no overhang, you should have no problem with attaching a mast to the side of your house. You will need something similar to a WINEGARD WM-2040 wall mount and a TV mast tall enough so that the antenna is above the roofline. It's usually cheapest to find a mast at your local hardware or home electronics store. You will also need an adequate length of RG-6 cable. It will need two F-connectors. One at the antenna, the other at the splitter. As long as you don't need the cable to go through any walls, you can probably just buy a length of RG-6 with the F-connectors pre-attached. You can find these locally or online, usually in increments of 25' or so. Get the shortest length necessary to connect both points. Considering the fact that you have multiple TVs to distribute the signal to, you may end up needing to purchase a pre-amp if the incoming signal is not strong enough. The more times the signal is split, the weaker it will be. Lastly, I would advise connecting the mast directly to a ground rod somewhere nearby. Most likely, you already have one that was installed by the cable or phone company. Local hardware stores can supply you with the copper ground wire you will need. If your area ever gets rain, I would also suggest using some sort of silicone (waterproof) sealant to protect where the f-connectors connect to the antenna and splitter (and amp, if necessary). Moisture getting into the connectors can adversely affect the quality of your signal over time. Hope this helps!
Question: How many miles will this pickup from
Answer: I don't have an HD8200U, I have a 7697P antenna. I am reliably picking up stations 35 miles away in the direction I have the antenna pointing to. I can pick up stations from the side of the antenna up to 20 miles away. On good days (about once a week), I can pick up stations over 60 miles away but that's not the norm. My antenna is mounted in the attic. The terrain is hilly and there are lots of trees. The reception would probably be better if the antenna was mounted on the roof.
Question: what else do I need to purchase to install this antenna to my house
Answer: You will need a mast and cable to run to your TV

User questions & answers

Question: Can this antenna be used in Canada? I'm about 100km from Plattsbourgh
Answer: Hello, You can use the SDSB80111 for single phase 3 wire applications rated for 120/240VAC. Regards, Schneider Electric Customer Care.
Question: Would mounting this in an attic with an insulated roof greatly impair the signal it receives
Answer: 80,000 according to their spec sheet
Question: I live in a small house and am thinkin on going with the WE7550A . 40 miles closest tower, rolling hills, etc. 3 tvs 20' apart. additional amp needed
Answer: Yes easy to install. You just need to mount the item to an appropriate surface, make sure the power is off before opening the service panel, and then correctly connect the wires to a double pole 20AMP breaker, as well as secure the ground wire to the grounding bus. Call a licensed electrician if you are unsure.
Question: Is the elite 7550 antenna atsc 3.0 capable and ready for the new fcc transition for the final phase of july
Answer: If one or two LEDs are out that indicates the breaker is no longer working and the circuits they supply must not be hot (useable). Check the two breakers with a voltage tester to be sure. Being in service for 12 years circuits may have seen the voltage spike and tripped the breaker. If they had been installed properly these two circuits would have fed voltage/current to circuits that were in use.

  • The Winegard Boost XT TV signal booster enhances any non-amplified antenna, delivering a clearer signal, more range, and more available channels; works with any passive/non-amplified antenna; antenna required for use with preamplifier
  • TwinAmp Technology separately amplifies VHF and UHF signals for maximum performance and lowest noise and interference levels on any non-amplified outdoor antenna.
  • Boost Clear Circuit Technology features the lowest noise figure (1db typical) to deliver more range and reduce signal dropout and pixelation
  • Includes Winegard Boost LNA-200 digital TV antenna amplifier, 110v adapter, power inserter, hose clamps and printed documentation. Designed and built in the U.S.A.
  • Note:  Using an amplifier does not guarantee you will pick up more TV channels even though your signal is amplified; dependencies include location of TV towers, building materials, and the actual antenna being used

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a powered splitter or something that would allow this product to work for placement in between the preamp and power inserter
Answer: If you want to have a splitter between the preamp and the power inserted, you need to use a "power passing" splitter. I used this one from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018BN0UW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. You may choose a different one depending on the number of connections you need at the splitter.
Question: can this be used with Winegard FL6550A to strengthen the signal
Answer: No. It has a built in preamp. I used this preamp with the FL6550A antenna and the channels I had dropped in half from 51 to 26. Actually makes the FL6550A antenna perform worse!
Question: Can I use this to boost sig for 2 antennas: Clear Stream's DB4E UHF antenna PLUS C5 VHF antenna? Do I put the amp after the combiner
Answer: I'll add my answer for future installers. I run two dual element antennas pointed in opposite directions and use TWO preamps -> then combine. If I were running two antennas for the purpose of band separation (UHF / VHF) - I might combine first then preamp. The BUMMER here - is that this is an EXCEPTIONAL unit with only 1db of noise. That means it outperforms other preamps that declare higher gains. This Wineguard amplifies the VHF and the UHF signals separately - which would make you ask - WHY ON GOD's GREEN EARTH would you NOT give us the ability to hook up separate UHF / VHF antenna feeds??There are preamps out there that do have separate inputs - RCA has a very popular unit around $20 but it won't perform as well as this overall. Id try FIRST - to combine at the mast- preamp and then distribute. If you don't like the results - you can ALWAYS add another preamp and change it to a preamp for each antenna then combine. What a shame though - since you would only be using half the capability of each preamp in the second scenario.
Question: Will this booster improve (%) both signal strength & quality? Will it make the OTA CH's that are 100% (w/o amp) worse
Answer: You have a given amount of tv signal present in the air, (assuming, your within range and elevation to capture a signal), also signals fluctuate according to temperature and moisture present in the atmosphere. So this is generally a constant changing thing that we have no control. Sometimes there are band openings that cause tv signals to behave in ways in both favorable and unfavorable depending on conditions that are present. Your digital TV tuner in your TV, in order to lock onto a signal, (that signal must be of high integrity and not out of phase). Generally the antennas of higher gain do better than cheap off the shelf small antennas (especially indoor/outdoor models). Also the inexpensive antenna systems that claim 150 or more mile range. All feedline has loss; some are better than others in this problem. The more loss in your TV feedline cable, will result in less tv signal reaching your TV tuner. RG-6 is a better grade than rg-59 resulting in better quantity of signal available to the tv tuner. Tv preamplifiers like this one, boost the signal level at the antenna location so as to compensate for the loss in your cable run to the tv tuner. Another issue is that you cannot amplify a signal without creating noise (distortion), in the signal. Some preamplifiers do their job by not creating so much noise in the signal. (The lower the noise, the better); regardless of gain figures although high gain does help. This unit is of good quality and has the added benefit of separate uhf/vhf antenna inputs for those who need to use single band tv antennas to achieve high results to specific applications. Your TV tuner can only lock onto a signal of high integrity. This unit is a good choice to help deliver that signal to the tuner, assuming everything else is in order. If multiple antennas are used for digital TV reception; they must be connected prior to being amplied, otherwise it will be out of phase and the tv can't lock onto signal like that. Hopefully, I have explained this so it's easier to understand. There is a science behind," how this works". Hope this advise has helped others. 73 and GOD bless K5EWM.

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone compare this Amplied antenna to AmazonBasics Extreme Performance Ultra Thin Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna in term of reception and range
Answer: Update, April 2018. Newer design Clearstream Eclipse is sig better & just a little pricer, If passive works best for you. I live semi-rural 25miles West of Detriot. Have tried many major brand indoor antennas, Mohu Leaf, Wineguard, AmazonBasics, 1byOne, etc. After fresh channel scan, Eclipse took me from 18 channels (22 depending on weather & season) to very clear 28 channels!
Question: Can the Wineguard FL5500A antenna be used without power amplifier Hooked up
Answer: I have had this 2 years now and love it. I found hooking it up to power BEFORE the splitter coming into the house made all the difference. Hooking the power adapter inside house right before hooking into tv did not well at all. I would get 1 channel. With power adapter outside before my house splitter I pick up 60 channels.
Question: I have a tv that doesnt have a usb connection. How can I use these antennas
Answer: The antenna connects to the tv using the same type of connection as a cable wire, so a usb is not needed. If you are replacing cable with the antenna, you can actually use the cable wiring in your house to connect all of your tv's to one antenna. Put the antenna in the room at the highest point in the house. Get a 2 way cable splitter. One end goes to the tv in that room. The other end connects to the existing cable wire. Follow the existing cable wire to your basement or wherever the cable comes in to the house. Get a 5 way splitter (for up to 4 tv's). Connect the cable coming from the room with the antenna to the input of the 5 way splitter. Connect all of your other tv cables to the outputs of the 5 way splitter. You will then just need to change each tv to use air instead of cable. Be sure to buy quality splitters with gold ends.
Question: is this antenna made in america
Answer: Will this antenna work if I am 40 miles from the broadcast town.

User questions & answers

Question: does the antenna require power source
Answer: This antenna does not require power.
Question: Tv antenna amplifier, does this antenna needs one or does it works well without one? does it comes with a build in amplifier
Answer: This antenna does not include a built in amplifier. While an amplifier is not required, one is recommended if using the antenna in a poor signal area.
Question: What is the vhf mhz range ?, i currently have antenna with a vhf mhz range of 40-300 and uhf 470-890mhz ? is this unit better
Answer: The VHF Low and VHF High frequency range is from roughly 52mhz to 174mhz, so the antenna you have should cover them just fine. As for weather this antenna would work better than the one you have is dependent on the design of each antenna. Generally speaking, the VHF Low elements on the antenna are the longest at over 100" in length while the VHF High antenna elements are the next shortest and the UHF antenna elements are very short and at the front of the antenna. Therefore if your antenna has more of these elements than the one shown, then it will likely provide better reception. I am using this antenna (Winegard YA7000C) in the attic of my condo and it picks up VHF Low/High and UHF very well at about 45 Miles from the transmitters. Good Luck
Question: Is this good for attic, stations are 25 miles? Pre-amp needed for this setting
Answer: It should be good in the attic, and I don't think a pre-amp is needed; mine is mounted on the rooftop only a few feet above the attic, and all broadcast towers are 30 to 32 miles away. Reception is excellent (82-86% signal strength). It also receives low-frequency VHF channels, which most TV antennas don't. Fine product, highly recommended.

User questions & answers

Question: Another question for the people using the sensar IV in their homes. What power supply did you use? I am afraid of over amping it. What amp fuse? Thx
Answer: The Rayzar z1 is an amplified antenna. The amplifier is in the antenna head itself, and it comes with a power supply wall plate that needs to be installed to power that internal amplifier.
Question: Already have one ,do I have to replace the mounting or just the head ? Tks
Answer: The narrow point of the antenna with the elements is the front of the antenna, that is what you need to point at the broadcast towers.
Question: Is this a complete system? Doess it come with hadle, gears, shaft to turn tge gears etc
Answer: It is an amplified antenna requires 120v to get long range signal. You may pick up some close broadcasting antennas but doubt they would work long
Question: Can i replace a sensar iii with this and not replace the base? just the tubes and top part on my iii were ripped off
Answer: The Rayzar z1 has a max range of 50 miles.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the addition of the rv wing the same as replacing with the rvw395 dtv/adtv head
Answer: No idea what the RVW395 DTV/ADTV head is. All I can tell you is that adding extra component to my antenna gave me a few more stations and improved the TV reception by 50% if I had to put a number on it. Make sure the additional booster head will clear the A/C unit on the roof. Mine did.
Question: I have a wingard sensar iii antenna no older thatn 2005. and a 3 year old tv. can i aquire an attachment for it to pick up digital
Answer: Antennas are neither digital nor analog, they only receive the signal that the TV then decodes for digital signals. Your antenna will support the wingman attachment for increased UHF signal gain.
Question: will this fit older winegard antennas
Answer: This will fit most Sensar antenna models manufactured after 1990. If you examine your current antenna, if it has 3 or 4 rubber bumpers on the bottom it will work. If there only two it will not.
Question: how wide is the last bar that sticks out
Answer: Each bar is 7" long and 1" wide. The spar they are attached to sticks out about 8 3/4" from the main antenna body.
