13 best rubber roof cleaners

Rubber roof cleaners are products specifically designed to clean and maintain rubber roofing materials commonly found on RVs, trailers, and some automotive applications. These cleaners are formulated to effectively remove dirt, grime, mildew, algae, and other contaminants that can accumulate on rubber roofs over time. Here are some key points to know about rubber roof cleaners:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of rubber roof cleaners is to extend the lifespan of the rubber roof by preventing damage caused by the accumulation of dirt, debris, and environmental factors. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help prevent leaks, cracks, and other issues.

  2. Types of Rubber Roofs: Rubber roofs are often made from EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) or TPO (thermoplastic olefin) materials. Different types of rubber roofs may require different cleaning products, so it's essential to choose a cleaner that is compatible with your specific roof type.

  3. Cleaning Process: Rubber roof cleaners are typically applied to the roof's surface and then scrubbed or brushed to remove dirt and stains. Some cleaners may require rinsing, while others are no-rinse formulas. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper usage.

  4. Protection and Prevention: Many rubber roof cleaners also include UV protectants and conditioners to help prevent sun damage and maintain the rubber's flexibility. These additives can be essential for preserving the roof's integrity.

  5. Mold and Mildew Removal: Rubber roofs are susceptible to the growth of mold and mildew, especially in humid or damp conditions. Some rubber roof cleaners are specifically formulated to combat these issues, helping to prevent health hazards and unsightly stains.

  6. Maintenance Frequency: It is advisable to clean your rubber roof regularly, typically at least once or twice a year, depending on your RV's usage and the climate in which it is stored. Regular maintenance can help avoid costly repairs down the road.

  7. Protective Gear: When using rubber roof cleaners, it's essential to wear appropriate protective gear, such as gloves and eye protection, to avoid skin or eye irritation.

  8. Compatibility: Ensure that the cleaner you choose is compatible with any other materials on your RV, such as fiberglass, aluminum, or painted surfaces. Some cleaners may cause damage to these materials if not used correctly.

  9. Storage: Store your rubber roof cleaner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to maintain its effectiveness.

In summary, rubber roof cleaners are essential for maintaining and prolonging the life of rubber roofing materials commonly used in RVs and other automotive applications. Regular cleaning and maintenance with these specialized products can help prevent damage, extend the lifespan of the roof, and ensure a watertight seal.Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific product you choose to achieve the best results.

User questions & answers

Question: What's are the ingredients of the product
Answer: My RV is 20 years old that we bought used a few years ago. The exterior wasn't in the best shape when we got it although the rig overall was in very good shape. When I used this product it made a very noticeable improvement to the finish, although as I put in my review it won't make it look new. The problem as I was told by a local detail shop was that the clear coat has simply worn away due to age and lack of proper care over the years. However, it made such an improvement in the appearance of the outside of the RV I was really impressed. It does make a difference on how the sun shines on it and the angle you look at it at but I suspect you might have the same issue as me. If your RV is newer and has been taken care of better than mine had, you may just have an issue with the application and buffing method you used.
Question: How much uv protection does this product have
Answer: Hi sam, this product is not a soap.so no you can't use it to wash your car or boat. This product is a one step wax, i use it after i polish a boat with meguiars 49 oxydation remover. I think meguiars 51 is the soap and you may use that one.
Question: how much coverage does a gallon provide
Answer: Black water/gray water tank deodorizer
Question: How much quantity (gallons) do I need of the cleaner and sealer for a 31 foot class C motor home
Answer: It all depends on when and how you grinder cycles. If it only cycles when it is say 3/4 full, and you put in the packet when it is almost empty, it will work just fine. If you drop it in just before it cycles, you will not get much benefit from the product.

User questions & answers

Question: How much does this product cover
Answer: My pull trailer is 8.5 wide by 28 feet long on the box. I was not stingy with the product and I used about half of each of the jugs. I believe the product calls for two coats on the finish coat and that is what I did.
Question: Can both be used on all of my travel trailer or just the rubber roof
Answer: Just the rubber.
Question: Can this product be used on all rubber roofs? epdm safe
Answer: Hey Douglas, these are EPDE safe. Not recommended for TPO roofs. The Protectant part, Part 2, is not required for TPO roofs. You only need Part 1 for TPO roofs.Give us a call at 800-334-2004 or email us at [email protected] if we can be of further assistance. Thank you.
Question: How do you clean the roof, mop and bucket of water? Product go into bucket or on roof? You don't have to rinse the roof off with a hose and water
Answer: I cleaned my RV roof off by using a scrub brush connected to a broom handle. I would pour the cleaner (I don't recall if I had to mix it with water or not but I followed the directions on the container), on the roof and scrub it back and forth a few times to loosen the dirt and I would keep a hose up on my roof at the same time, that way I could do a section at a time, and hose it off before it had a chance to dry. Also hose off the sides so the dirty residue from the roof doesn't leave drip or stain marks

User questions & answers

Question: for already painted roofs is the cleaner/activator needed
Answer: When I used the cleaner/activator the instructions said use the cleaner activator first to clean the roof and then apply the coating. The instructions said the cleaner/activator would cause the coating to adhere properly through some sort of chemical reaction process. Not sure if your term “paint” means the coating that is like a paint but is actually a specialized coating.
Question: do you have to put plastic on camper sides to protect camper from roof coating, or just careful when you apply
Answer: Yes. unless you are in perfect weather and there isn't a hint of breeze or you just don't care that the fine mist when unintentionally landing on that beautiful wrap you have will leave spots that will eat the wrap and well just let your imagination work. . . We spent 89 cents a roll and bought 6 rolls, for thin painters plastic that we used blue tape all around our 40ft motorhome. One year we used walmart discounted weatherization plastic with adhesive on one side.
Question: Do you need to apply this between the coats of sealing paint? As in do i need to use this primer then paint then primer again then paint
Answer: Not according to the instructions. It is the cleaner/activator and does an excellent job of cleaning. The activator part is just to prepare the old roof material that has weathered so the new coating adheres solidly. If you apply two coats of the roofing material and the second coat is added shortly after the first coat, within hours or days you should not need the cleaner activator between coats.
Question: I have a 2001 fleetwood pace arrow how do i know what the roof material is? the white coating is almost gone
Answer: I looked at your specs on line you have a rubber roof.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used on tpo roof systems
Answer: Mine says “made in Vietnam for 3M”
Question: Can this be used on the britetek roof that newmar uses
Answer: The last time I ordered them was Aug 2018 and they were 11.8 X 11.8. But you are correct, they are now diff size now. I have emailed them in the past and they were very responsive to my questions - so maybe email them directly.
Question: Is this just for rubber roof or is it safe for a tpo roof and what about the sealer? tpo safe? has a brief mention of tpo but all other info on rubbe
Answer: Sure. It won't scratch it if that's what you mean - it's more like for dusting, but it could work for a smudgy cell screen I imagine.
Question: can this product be used to clean the RV awning
Answer: I don't have a glass-top stove, but I do use it dry on the bathroom mirror almost every morning to wipe away water droplets and toothpaste spots, so I would imagine it would do the same kind of job with a glass-top stove. It is fantastic--no water necessary unless you have hard water and the drops have dried. Then you need just a dab of water. I'll never use paper towels and spray cleaner on my mirror again. Although for a greasy stove you'd need to use a cleaner.

Non-Sag Sealant

Made for vertical, uneven, and slanted application, our non-sag sealants are the perfect solution for sidewalls and end rails of your RV. Plus, once fully cured, these can hold up against the shock, vibrations, and stress of outdoor transportation.

Self-Leveling Sealant

Great for flat, horizontal surfaces like RV rooftops, our high-strength, self-leveling sealants can withstand the wear and tear of outdoor elements. They offer excellent adhesion to wood, metal, glass, and most other common construction materials.

Tapes

Our taping solutions are quick to install and leave you with no gaps to worry about — assuring that your seals are leak-proof. Designed with a non-drying compound, Alpha tapes have excellent resistance to water, weather, and air intrusion.

Roofing Kits

Today’s RVs demand better, more flexible roofing membranes for their complex designs. Which means you need an Alpha Systems SuperFlex Roof Kit. These kits supply you with all the major items you need to complete your next RV roof project.
