| Answer: | The signal can go either direction, so output is relative. The XLR side is male, so the cable would need a female connector, and the 1/4" / TRS / TS / Phone side is female, so you would need a cable with a male plug for this side. There's also a pass-through 1/4" jack wired in parallel with the adjacent 1/4" jack, as can be seen in the pictures.I'd buy this if... electrical noise was not an issue. The unit I got allows excessive electrical noise in anytime it's placed near other equipment, so it has to sit a foot or two away in an open space. I'm not very happy with the design of the unit in that respect, but other than that it's working well for me and is inexpensive. |

| Answer: | I know this is a late response to the OP, but i figure it can help future potential buyers... I am using this battery as a starting battery, but I also have abank of 3 in the hatch, however, while I was planning out the big build, I used one of these as a stand alone starting battery with a Crescendo Audio BC2000D at 1 ohm and it was "ok". This was with the big 3 all at 1/0, Knu OFC and a stock alternator, 110 amp. Lights still dimmed, but no where near what they were with the stock pos lead battery. In my case, according to XS, this was the only battery that would fit my vehicle up front. I took some measurements and, well, without modifying anbything in my engine bay, they were right, so I went with it. Yes, according to XS these batteries are capable of handling 1500-2000 watts RMS of power, however remember that youi have the rest of your vehicle running, too. Headlights, heat, AC, wipers, etc, all these things draw power too, and let's not forget the car's computer system itself which is running constantly when the car is running. You need to take this into account if you are considering using this battery as a stand alone. As another poster replied, this does wonders as an additional battery, however you don't want to run a lead acid and AGM together in parallel without an isolator. Reason being is that these AGM batteries have a resting voltage of 12.8 to 13 volts. A typical lead acid has a resting voltage of 12.3 to 12.5 volts. When batteries are paralleled together, at rest, they will try to find "even" voltage between them. That is, if you had a battery at 14 volts parallel connected to one at 12 volts (I would NEVER recommend this, extremely dangerous, just using it for easy numbers), the resting voltage would be 13 volts, The problem with this is, the 12 volt battery would constantly be drawing voltage from the 14 volt battery in order to achieve this balance. With a lead acid and AGM you have the same issue, the lead acid, being at 12.5, would be draining constantly (when the car is off) from the 12.8 volt AGM battery. What's the big deal, you ask? Nothing if you like buying a new AGM every year. This will shorten the lifespan of the AGM considerably, it is not healthy for an AGM battery to have this draw on it when at rest. A simple solenoid isolator cane easily be added to this equation so when the car is off, the batteries don't see each other. Now, I would recommend going with different models of XS for a battery bank, due to the way these posts sit all recessed and what not, but I made it work just fine with my own custom bus bars. |
