12 best engine flush

An engine flush is a chemical additive that is used in the automotive industry to clean the internal components of an engine, specifically the oil system. It is typically added to the engine oil before an oil change and is intended to help remove built-up deposits, sludge, and contaminants from various engine parts, such as the crankshaft, oil pump, and valve train.

Here's how an engine flush generally works:

  1. Additive Application: An engine flush additive is poured into the engine's oil reservoir.

  2. Idle the Engine: The engine is typically idled for a specific period of time, allowing the flush additive to circulate through the engine's oil passages.

  3. Drain the Oil: After the recommended idle time, the old engine oil, along with the flush additive, is drained from the engine.

  4. Oil Change: The engine's oil filter is replaced, and fresh engine oil is added as part of a regular oil change.

The purpose of an engine flush is to break down and remove any sludge, varnish, or carbon deposits that may have accumulated over time. These deposits can negatively affect engine performance and longevity by obstructing oil flow and potentially causing premature wear on engine components.

However, there are some important considerations and potential risks associated with engine flushes:

  1. Engine Condition: Engine flushes are generally recommended for engines with significant sludge or deposit buildup. Using them on a well-maintained engine with clean oil may not be necessary and can be potentially harmful.

  2. Risk of Dislodging Debris: In some cases, an engine flush can dislodge large chunks of sludge or debris that may block oil passages, leading to oil starvation and engine damage.

  3. Compatibility: Not all engines are compatible with engine flush additives. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations and use a product that is suitable for your specific engine type.

  4. Timing: It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the timing and duration of the engine flush. Overusing the flush additive or leaving it in the engine for too long can have adverse effects.

  5. Regular Maintenance: Engine flushes should not be used as a substitute for regular oil changes and proper maintenance. Regular oil changes with high-quality engine oil are the best way to prevent sludge and deposit buildup in the first place.

In summary, an engine flush is a chemical additive used to clean an engine's internal components by removing sludge and deposits from the oil system. While it can be beneficial in some cases, it should be used with caution and according to the manufacturer's recommendations to avoid potential risks to the engine.

User questions & answers

Question: How often should you use this
Answer: Should not be used at all. Caused my engine to seize.
Question: Can it be used with synthetic oil
Answer: Should not be used at all. Caused my engine to seize.
Question: How far can you drive it with the flush? Is 300 miles too many
Answer: Dear Customer, Thank you for your question. We value your business. It is recommended to idle the engine for 10-15 minutes or to get better results you may drive for about 12mi. If your engine has severe contamination - you could try going for 90-120mi with it, but no more. This is a very powerful solution which will clean everything thoroughly. Best Regards, XADO TECH
Question: My engine seized after adding this to my truck engine. Drove 10 miles. Has this happened to anyone else
Answer: I have not tried it yet. It all depends on the age of the engine, prior problem before adding this and also what made you use this? It also depends on the type, make and model of the car. I wanted to do plenty of research before using it in my 2004 jeep grand Cherokee 4.7l engine. I just did sea foam treatment and did the oil change .. after 100 miles. I am going to do another oil change with this stuff. I heard if the engine is badly clogged up and dirty from the inside then you want to do it slowly.. plenty of times with little portions instead of using it all at once because this stuff is powerful. Maybe some of the dirty elements got stuck to the running system.. and it may need mechanical cleaning.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be mixed with antifreeze to flush/winterize PWC
Answer: Yes I sprayed it on my outdoor fireplace but it will rust again if left in the out door elements. Make sure you cover it up and it will last longer.
Question: How do you flush an outboard with it
Answer: For the most part yes. I've used this a lot and when it initially dries, it appears to sort of have a "slight" gloss finish, but the moment you touch it with your fingers (even after its dried), it makes smudge marks which if you then try to wipe it clean, leaves the finish more "matte". I wish this stuff had a higher gloss finish, more like you get with a "baked on enamel"...but you get what you pay for.
Question: Does it destroy sea water pumps? or needs to be pumped in after the pump discharge
Answer: I don't know … I used it on a metal firepit to protect it out in the weather in Florida. maybe check with someone at an ace hardware about use on a coffee maker.
Question: Does this have a ptef coating or something similar
Answer: I've never worried about that as the paint will cure on it's own over time basically. It just helps to cure quicker via the heat. You can also set it outside in the sun for a few days and if you use the darker colors like black and dark green even red all should get really hot and you may want to turn the grill around during this time. But this is spray paint and as such it pretty much cures on it's own. The most important steps to assure great results is to start with clean surface. That includes scraped loose paint or chalky paint and of course all grease built up. If you have to sand some places it's worth the effort. And last if not least you could also run a chef or work torch near but not touching the finished painted surfaces if you found an area of the grill not curing on it's own. I have never had to do that. We've repainted our now 50 year old charcoal grill three maybe 4 times using this or similar paint for that purpose and always had great results.

User questions & answers

Question: How does this compare to the gallon bottle of gumout professional engine flush? that's the best stuff i've ever used, but only shops can get it
Answer: It seems to me that it can withstand gasoline, but I never tested if it really is because my engine does not spill gasoline.
Question: Is it safe to use in my Honda four wheeler were the transmission uses the same engine oil if I flush the engine I also flush the transmission
Answer: I think this paint would work good on the calipers, clean them real good and get the free of rust, and then put a primer on them. This paint works great on a lot projects. It is a little slow drying, but seems to very durable.
Question: Can I use this in my semi truck Mack diesel engine
Answer: You will need to let the paint fully cure before heating for the best durability, subjecting the paint to heat before it cures can lead to bubbling and/or flaking.
Question: Can this be added as an additive or after drain old oil then need to pour only this product before oil change
Answer: Rustoleum makes a product called "Appliance Epoxy." I've used it for years on everything from the side of a refrigerator to race car parts. It dries to a rock hard shiny finish and is practically indestructible. That's going to be what you'll need.

Lubegard 98901 Engine Flush and Protect Pack, (2) 15 Ounce Bottles

Lubegard

Based on 39 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Lubegard Engine Flush and Protect Pack is mild enough for engines considered high mileage, and the treatment contains LXE to reduce engine temperatures and minimize friction and wear. Lubegard will save fuel, provide a smoother, quieter and cooler engine and increase engine life. Oil filters can typically remove contaminants up to 25 microns, and that's with a great filter. However, the most dangerous contaminants to your engine are between 5 to 20 microns. These contaminants are larger than the finest tolerances in your engine, but too small for oil filters to remove, causing approximately 60 percent of wear. If these harmful contaminants are not flushed out with a quality flush product, sludge, tar, varnish and wear metals continue to circulate within the engine and accumulate in the passageways, oil pump and oil pan. After an engine is contaminated, regular oil changes do little to restore it's operating efficiency. The detergent and dispersants found in most conventional engine oils can't adequately remove these excessive amounts of contamination. The newly changed oil becomes dirty again within a short period of time, and actually helps to accelerate the formation of even more sludge and varnish. Directions for use with a flush machine: Follow manufacturer's directions. Directions for use without a flush machine: With the engine warm, check for the proper oil level and add new oil if necessary. Add one bottle of Lubegard Engine flush and circulate at idle for 5 to 10 minutes. Stop the engine and drain as usual. Allow sufficient time for the system to drain completely. Install new oil filter and refill with new engine oil in the grade and quality level recommended by the manufacturer. Add the bottle of Lubegard Bio-Tech Engine Oil protectant.

  • Safely remove accumulated amounts of varnish, sludge and by-products of combustion
  • For use in all diesel and gasoline engines
  • Prepares engine for fresh oil
  • Protects and extends oil life by 30 percent
  • Optimizes engine horsepower and performance

User questions & answers

Question: How often do you have to use this? Every oil change or every so many miles
Answer: No sure
Question: Is it safe to have a little of this in the engine after the oil change
Answer: Connects to garden hose and the flushing ears. Has a valve so you can control the flow.
Question: How long should I keep this in my engine? If there are no solvents can I run my car for 50 or so miles

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work for synthetic oil
Answer: The instructions for use are pretty clear. It is to be added to the engine and allowed to idle for only 5 minutes before the oil change. You should change the oil and filter immediately after using this product as directed. There may be a trace amount in the galleys etc but for all practical intents and purposes it drains out with the oil. If you are not planning to drain all the oil and change the filter, do not use this product. Certainly don't add it to engine oil and drive around. I have used this product as directed the past 3 oil changes on my vehicle with 250k miles on it and no surprises. This is actually a detergent, not a solvent as most "flush" products are. On a side note, I spilled some of the used oil on a recent change, and it cleaned up well without staining the concrete.
Question: Will this work to take care of any oil pump issues that I may have or oil pressure
Answer: warm your engine up for about 15 minutes and then pore in the Lubegard. With the Lubegard now mixed in with the oil, run engine at an idle for (10) minutes. No longer or it will damage the engine. Do not drive the car with the Lubegard in it!!! Shut of engine and drain the oil. Install new filter and oil and your all done. Hope this helps you.
Question: This flush works for all type of engines ? I mean gasoline, diesel and turbo eqiped engines
Answer: Hello - This most definitely is safe to use in that engine. Please let us know if you have any other questions or need additional help. You can send us a message direct at [email protected], or give us a call at (800) 333-5823. Thanks & Happy Motoring!
Question: Can you use this with synthetic oil
Answer: I have never used gumout. Sorry.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this in my John Deere X
Answer: Yes. For high capacity engines we'd recommend 2 or even 3 bottles added to the oil.
Question: What happens when it is used longer than 5 minutes? Say 30min
Answer: Yes you can. However the best way to use it is to drain the oil , change the filter and add all but 1 quart of clean oil plus the quart of cleaner. Cheap regular oil is fine. Run for 5 min then change the oil and filter again. Then you can refil with your premium oil. It does seem to clean things out well.

FAQS

Q: What is Motor Flush?

A: Motor Flush is a proprietary blend of solvents and detergents in a petroleum carrier fluid that delivers optimal cleaning power to your engine’s internal parts.

Q: Is it safe for my engine?

A: The chemicals in Motor Flush are completely safe for all engines, as long as the application / use time does not exceed the specified time period of 5 minutes and other use directions are followed. It is designed to offer optimal cleaning while preserving lubricity of the oil to prevent wear during cleaning.

Q: Why do I need Motor Flush?

A: Motor Flush is needed to clean out the built up dirt, deposits, and contaminants that can accumulate even with steady oil changes; periodic cleaning will extend the life of your engine. Cleaning will remove sludge that can block oil flow and cause engine damage.

Q: My high end synthetic oil has all of the cleaning and detergent additives I’ll ever need, why do I still need Motor Flush?

A: While high end synthetic oils do a much better job of cleaning the engine over conventional oils, there are many factors that exist such as driving conditions, short trips, severe duty, weather extremes, mechanical abuse, and lack of maintenance intervals which can break down even the most robust synthetic oils, Motor Flush is the final stand in overall engine cleaning.

Q: Can I drive with Motor Flush in my engine?

A: No. Motor Flush is only to be used right before an oil change with the engine at idle. Never drive a vehicle until the old oil with Motor Flush is fully drained and new oil is added.

Q: Can I leave it in over 5 minutes?

A: No. Due to the strength and effectiveness of the formula, longer application times (exceeding 5 minutes) could lead to engine damage.

Q: Is it safe for diesel engines?

A: Yes. While MF3 is safe for diesel engines, we recommend using Motor Medic Synthetic Motor Flush (MFD1) for diesel applications. MFD1 contains friction modifiers and extreme pressure and anti-wear additives designed to offer increased protection to all diesel engines and gasoline engines with oil-cooled turbochargers.

Q: What is the difference between Motor Flush and Synthetic Motor Flush?

A: Synthetic Motor Flush contains added extreme pressure and anti-wear additives that provide added lubrication as the engine is being cleaned. Leftover additives will provide an extra layer of protection to the engine as new oil is circulating. Synthetic Motor Flush is recommended for all diesel and turbocharged engines.

Q: Can I add this to any other system in my vehicle?

A: No. Motor Flush is designed only for your engine’s oil system, it cannot be used in any other system. Add it only to the crankcase immediately preceding an oil change. Always follow label directions to give optimum cleanings.

Q: How much Motor Flush do I need to add to my engine?

A: Motor Flush is most effective when used with up to 6-7 quarts of oil in the crankcase. Engines with higher oil fill capacities may require an additional treatment size for desired results.

Q: Is Motor Flush safe with any type of engine oil?

A: Yes. Motor Flush will work with all conventional, synthetic blend, and full synthetic engine oils.

Q: What sets Motor Flush apart from products such as Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil?

A: Those popular competitors are a blend of alcohols or light solvents designed for continuous crankcase cleaning over the span of a few thousand miles, Motor Flush is a much stronger blend of solvents designed for instantaneous cleaning 5 minutes before an oil change. The Motor Flush formula is designed to go right to work on harmful deposits, sludge, and varnish to deliver a nearly instant result, where Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil will take over 1,000 miles to show the same results.*

Q: Does Motor Flush work well with high mileage engines?

A: Yes. Motor Flush works well with higher mileage engines that may have added sludge and varnish deposits. Extra care may be needed for high mileage engines with excessive sludge and contaminants. Always follow label directions to give optimum cleanings..
