13 best conventional oils
Conventional motor oil, often referred to as mineral oil or regular oil, is a type of lubricating oil commonly used in internal combustion engines, including those in cars, trucks, and other vehicles. It serves several critical functions in the engine:
Lubrication: One of the primary functions of conventional motor oil is to lubricate moving parts within the engine, such as pistons, crankshafts, and bearings. This reduces friction and minimizes wear and tear on these components, extending the engine's lifespan.
Cooling: Conventional motor oil also plays a role in dissipating heat generated by the engine's internal combustion process. It absorbs heat from hot engine components and transfers it to the engine's oil cooler or the surrounding environment.
Sealing: Motor oil helps maintain a proper seal between the engine's piston rings and cylinder walls. This prevents combustion gases from escaping into the crankcase and helps maintain engine compression.
Cleaning: Conventional motor oil contains detergents and additives that help remove and suspend contaminants, such as dirt, debris, and combustion byproducts. These impurities are trapped in the oil filter and eventually removed during an oil change.
Corrosion Protection: Motor oil also provides a protective film on engine parts, guarding against corrosion and rust formation.
Viscosity: Conventional motor oil is available in different viscosity grades, which indicate its thickness or flow characteristics. Thicker oil (higher viscosity) is used in hotter climates and for heavy-duty engines, while thinner oil (lower viscosity) is suitable for colder temperatures.
Oil Change Intervals: The recommended oil change interval for conventional motor oil can vary depending on the vehicle, driving conditions, and manufacturer's guidelines. Typically, it's advisable to change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles (4,800 to 8,000 kilometers), but modern vehicles may have longer recommended intervals.
Limitations: Conventional motor oil tends to break down and degrade more quickly under high-temperature and high-stress conditions compared to synthetic motor oils. Synthetic oils offer better resistance to breakdown and can often provide longer-lasting protection.
Environmental Impact: Used conventional motor oil should be properly disposed of and recycled to prevent environmental contamination. Many automotive service centers and recycling facilities accept used motor oil for recycling.
It's essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding oil type and change intervals for your specific vehicle. Many newer vehicles use synthetic motor oils, which offer improved performance and longevity compared to conventional oils. However, conventional motor oil remains a viable and cost-effective option for many older and less demanding vehicles when used according to the manufacturer's guidelines.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this oil meet VW's 502.00 / 505.00 spec |
Answer: | It's likely not going to be on the VW certified list. But, 502/505.00 does mirror ACEA A3/B4 a lot. In the older manuals, pre-longitudinal 1.8T oil sludge, the manual did give you options, saying it needed to meet 502.00/505.00, ACEA A3/B4, or API CF-4 (older TDI's). |
Question: | Does anyone have a virgin oil analysis to post? thank you |
Answer: | I hear that if you take the oil to confession, it can be re-virginated. That's what my wife told me right before we got married. |
Question: | Amazon doesn't make anything. So who really makes this oil |
Answer: | Warren makes Kirkland oil as well. When I went today, Costco was selling a box containing 2 of the 5 gallon jugs of full synthetic for $24.99, which is about half of what Bezos is charging for the exact same product. The Costco jugs say, "Manufactured by Warren Distribution, Inc." and says "DEXOS approved Gen-2" as well. |
Question: | Do you just add it to the gas or pour in the glovebox |
Answer: | Before adding oil to your gas tank make sure to check the blinker fuild level. If it's at the full mark you can safely add all 5 quarts of oil into your gas tank. With full synthetic you'll get better gas mileage! If you want to really crank up your engines preformance, the next time your at the gas station, pop the hood, unscrew the engine oil cap, and fill your engine up with 93 OCT until it overflows. Put the cap back on and your good to go! I've gained around 100HP in my 1996 Ford Taurus. |

User questions & answers
Question: | synthetic or conventional |
Answer: | This is a full synthetic in its current form. Previous incarnations were a blend. |
Question: | What is the shell life of motor oil |
Answer: | If kept in a cool (68-71 degrees, dry environment and away from sunlight I wouldn't worry about it, unless I intended to keep it 3 years plus. |
Question: | Is this full synthetic or synthetic blend? It's listed under both categories in your homepage |
Answer: | THIS PRODUCT IN 5W-20 IS A SYNTHETIC BLEND. CALLED CASTROL 12/12/19. THEY NO LONGER MAKE CONVENTIONAL FORMULA FOR THIS WEIGHT. ANY QUESTIONS, CALL 888-227-8765. |
Question: | how long time that oil last for chevrolet cobalt lt 2009 has 130.000 miles |
Answer: | I have a 2009 Cobalt. I change my oil when the indicator comes up on the dash. Usually within the time frame of 5 -1 % of life left. My Cobalt has almost 200,000 miles on it. The computer actually knows when the oil needs changed. How? The computer calculates the length of time the car runs, temperatures the car is exposed and more. In effect, the computer knows when the oil is losing it's level of viscosity. Viscosity = Sticky. Oil needs to be sticky to cling to the internal parts of the engine. Again, oil must be sticky to be protect the engine. Trust me, the car's computer knows. The only way the car doesn't know is if you don't start it and or you don't drive it. In that case, you would need to change the oil far more often. The worst effect any engine deals with is not being run. Second worst is starting the car and not allowing the engine to reach normal operating temperatures. Start the car and drive it. Doing so causes the moisture in the oil to be burned off. Moisture in the crankcase causes internal rust. Internal rust can damage the crank bearings. I have 4 GM cars. They all have high mileage. Let the car tell you when to change the oil. Btw, I use this oil in all my cars. It's among the best. |

User questions & answers
Question: | why bosh filters |
Answer: | Castrol does not recommend a particular oil filter brand. Our recommendation would be to use a filter from a leading manufacturer consistent with the recommendation of the engine manufacturer for your vehicle. Change the filter with each oil change following the oil change interval recommendation of the engine manufacturer consistent with the type of driving you do (e.g. severe vs. normal). |
Question: | Doe's anyone know why this oil is so expensive |
Answer: | It's good oil. It lasts longer and works better. In my area it is cheaper to buy on Amazon than from the local store. So there's that too. |
Question: | Generally i use highmileage 5w-30 for my nissan sentra 2007 which has 200k miles, shall i use highmileage 10w-40 now |
Answer: | Look what Nissan says on weight to use and stick with it. It is designed to use the weight as for the clearances on you motor. Once you used the high mileage continue to use it. The high mileage has stuff in the oil to expand some of the seal and gaskets in your motor. Now if you go back the seals may shrink back and start to leak. Go to youtube and look for the video on different filters and oils. ie fram. I had a someone tell me to get the fram off my 92 ford 5.0 mustang and watching the video on filter I could see why. Oil is important but especially the filter. |

Question: | Will this work in my arctic cat atv |
Answer: | Not certain. google arctic cat atv and see if you can find the requirement for oil for that vehicle. |
Question: | Good for 2013 hyundai sonata hybrid limited |
Answer: | NO. (Well, almost certainly not.) Most hybrids require 0W-20 weight motor oil. Most newer cars also, whether hybrid or not. Some use 5W-20. This is 10W-40 and us mainly for use in older cars. A much heavier oil. The 0W-20 is always a synthetic oil, and is more expensive. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SAVE MONEY BY USING THE WRONG OIL. You will void your warranty and may damage your engine. |
Question: | good afternoon, this oil is mineral or sinthetic ? thank us |
Answer: | If this were synthetic oil, it would be labeled as such and much more expensive. You have to use the viscosity recommended by your manufacturer. Often written on the oil filler cap. Most new cars require 0W-20. This is only available in full synthetic. Very thin oil to improve MPG. Also it is 0 weight when cold (that's what the W stands for "winter"), so it circulates very quickly when you start your car. Slightly older cars use 5W-20 which I think is available in full mineral or part synthetic or all synth.. Older cars might use 10W-30 or 10W-40. If your car is old and burns oil use the 10W-40. These days it is often referred to as "high mileage oil", and recommended for older cars or to reduce oil consumption. I used QS 10W-40 in all my cars for the last 50 years until just recently with the newer cars. I changed it at reasonable intervals and never had any engine issues. These cars went 100k to 250k. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How old is this oil ? Why is it so much cheaper than normal |
Answer: | Racing is trying to be outlawed and this oil is good for racing and non emissions vehicles like i have. No new cars use it.... |
Question: | its not allowing shipment to california. Is there a reason for this |
Answer: | Walnart. Cheaper too $6.78 a bottle 10w30 :-) |
Question: | Might be a dumb question but is this oil synthetic? I don't see anything on it that says it is |
Answer: | This oil is organic. The Valvoline 20W50 synthetic oil has a black label, and it clearly states "synthetic" on the label. I use the synthetic in my 1952 MG TD because the oil has high zinc content that is a must for older engines. |
Question: | Is this a full synthetic ? I notice they sell a black container also |
Answer: | The silver container is conventional oil and has about 1400 ppm ZDDP. The black container is full synthetic and has about 1200 ppm ZDDP. Both of these oils have exceptional shear/anti wear properties, but the high phosphorus content will foul catalytic converters over time. |

Question: | Blend syntetic? Full syntetic or convencional |
Answer: | Yes you can. Use 1/3 of a can. |
Question: | How many miles is that oil for |
Answer: | Anytime, but I'd recommend waiting until you change your oil. That way you'll get your money's worth |
Question: | Is this conventional 5w 20 api premium grade detergent oil |
Answer: | The 44k simply goes into your fuel tank at fill up. Try to run out most of that fuel before refilling. Let's see if I can get the other two correct-I BELIEVE the EPR gets added to your oil prior to changing. Run the engine about 5 minutes then drain. Upon refilling the crankcase oil. add the MOA and you are all done! BTW-unless you have some serious issues, you should notice some performance improvement depending on the mileage. I sold this stuff 20 years ago as a service advisor and I still use it (and pay full price now). |
Question: | Is full synthetic amsoil good for high mileage suv? My 2010 Lincoln navigator has 143000 miles. I've been using 5w20 syn-blend oil every 3 to 4k miles |
Answer: | one 11oz can of MOA (part number 115), one 11oz can of EPR (part number 109) and one 11oz can of 44K (part number 208) |

Features
All grades of Havoline Motor Oils with Deposit Shield Technology are formulated with high quality base stocks and contain detergent, dispersant, wear control, antioxidant, corrosion inhibitor, and foam suppressant additives. Multigrades contain a shear stable viscosity index improver.
Their antiwear additives provide excellent wear protection of critical engine parts.
A high level of dispersancy in Havoline Motor Oils with Deposit Shield Technology protects against deposit and sludge formation in stop-and-go driving and sustained high temperature operation, and protects against corrosion.
Their excellent high temperature oxidation stability helps prevent viscosity increase and oil gelling in the crankcase. They help keep PCV systems clean to maintain smooth engine performance.
Applications
Havoline Motor Oils with Deposit Shield Technology are suitable for use in four-stroke gasoline engines used in passenger cars, light trucks, powerboats, motorcycles, and other mobile and stationary equipment. They are excellent for high-revving engines in small cars and light trucks. Havoline Motor Oils with Deposit Shield Technology are suitable for use in both new and high-mileage cars, and in turbocharged as well as normally aspirated engines. They may also be suitable for use in natural gas engines in small cars and light trucks after consulting with the appropriate original equipment manufacturer's lubrication recommendations.
